To be fair I haven’t met a wedge I haven’t liked. The pricing is intriguing. Below the big dogs of Vokey and TM but well above the DTC brands. Cagolfer
I love the look of these irons. I have a set of D7 Forged that rotate in and out of my bag. I do not mind the top line and they a do not look like a VW on a stick like some G.I. irons. My D7s feel great, go far, and I get plenty of spin anyway so stopping power on the greens is usually not an issue. You also can get move bang for your buck with Wilson equipment. I am going to try their new wedges next. BNewton51, William P and HikingMike 3 Quote “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. RickM71
Since this thread seems to be still getting action, I figured I'd follow-up. I was able to hit the Drynapower forged at the fitting at PGASS in February. It was the first iron I hit during the fitting after getting a baseline with my 20 year old Ping i3 o size. I discussed my experience a little in an equipment thread here. https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/63203-jpx-923-forged-vs-cobra-king-tour-2023-vs-and-fitting-experience/ Basically, I didn't love the feel and I wasn't hitting it anything special. I feel like the fitter let me hit it too many times and then tried it with a lighter steel shaft. As I'd never done a fitting before, I realized in hindsight, I should have told the fitter sooner that I just wasn't loving the feel. Just to give some data and club performance numbers: My ping i3 o size 7 iron is 36.75 inches with a 34.5 degree loft. This was on a gc quad with titlest pro v1 balls. All with stiff steel shafts. Unfortunately the fitting data he sent me did not include clubhead speed, descent angle, or strike location, but I think by the time I hit the 75g shaft I was pretty well warmed up and likely swinging around 83-85mph. Ping i3 osize - initial warm up / baseline 104.9 ball speed 21.7 launch angle 6018 backspin 145 carry 151.7 total distance Dynapower forged is 37.25 inches with a 30.5 degree loft. 85g steel shaft 110.4 ball speed 20.1 launch angle 5237 backspin 157.7 carry 164.8 total distance 75g steel shaft 111.9 ball speed 18.9 launch angle 4694 backspin 162.5 carry 171.3 total distance To compare with what I am now waiting to arrive: Mizuno JPX 923 forged - length is 37 inches with 30 degree loft: Ball speed 114.6 Launch angle 18.1 Backspin 4763 Carry 167.2 Total distance 174.9 For me, the Mizuno irons felt much more solid to hit. It's possible I was just striking it better, but it was immediately noticeable to me from the first shot. And now with the recent price drop on the Mizuno JPX 923 Forged, they are comparable in price to the Wilson Dynapower Forged. I'd suggest anyone hitting one of these models to hit the other and compare as I'm sure some may prefer the feel of one over the other and they seem likely geared towards the same target player. johngschulz, Rob Person, BNewton51 and 4 others 5 1 1 Quote Rick Cobra LTDx driver, Mizuno JPX 923 Forged irons (5-Gap), Cleveland wedges (52, 56), Odyssey 2 ball putter
BNewton51
Aaannddd.... the wheels of the machine keep on spinning! Wilson certainly has produced a beautiful product here. The entire line is very clean and looks amazing compared to the wilson's of old that fell off the map. As a self professed Titleist ho, I would never switch over and play them..... But that doesn't mean that I can't admire what Wilson is doing for their fans. The only thing I would comment, and it's just a personal preference... I've never been a "chromey" type person. I tend to like a more matt look to my irons. (Less glare and they don't look as beat up after a period of play) They look amazing and clean, but I'd love to know how they age after about a year of play cause they all look a bit too shiny for my personal preference. Hope these check all the boxes though for those looking to game them. They certainly have stepped up their game and look like they deserve some definite consideration when folks are in the market for newer clubs. I tend to like a more matt look to my irons. It looks like their Dynapower irons have always been shiny chrome, going back to 1954. So that's staying with their heritage there I guess. Even the red trim is there. Hard to beat that heritage in a product line, haha. https://www.wilson.com/en-us/explore/golf/dynapower And it will be fun to see how they do in the 2024 MGS iron testing. They have at least the 3 new iron lines, right? Players distance: Dynapower Forged Players: Staff Model cavity back & Staff Model blades I think those would be their categories for MGS tests. Does that sound right? Though I don't think they actually had any blades or musclebacks in the 2023 players iron test. So probably take the blades out, and we'll see how the other two do. I was looking back for the other Dynapower line and came across the 2022 players distance test and the Staff D9 Forged actually came up there as the runner up in that test. Nice finish. I think the Dynapower set was released in 2023 and it doesn't show up in the players distance test, so maybe Wilson did not submit those. They have in fact always gone with a shiny chrome look to them. Well, except the ole John Daley clubs he played to win the Open. Like I say, they look beautiful. I just couldn't look down on the shine like that. But I know a lot of people love that look. Funny how we all see things different, but we all agree these things are beautiful looking.
