Firmadge
Interested to hear from some members who have switched from standard grips to mid-size grips. I am getting ready to re-grip some clubs and I was thinking of trying a midsize from either Golf Pride or Winn. I have some buddies who have moved to larger grips and say it helps them with control. I am unsure if I want to re-grip my whole set or just do some of my wedges as a trial run. Looking for some input from the community members who have made the switch and either liked it or regretted it. russtopherb
I switched to mid-sized a number of years ago and I'll never go back. I find my grip overall is more relaxed and that helps with releasing the clubhead as there's less tension in my hands and wrists. I also like that when I choke down a bit, I still feel like I have a solid grip on the club. tony@CIC 1 Quote In my Big Max hybrid bag: ST-X 10.5* Kai'li Blue R Flex ST-Z 15* Kai'li Blue R Flex ST-Z 4h Linq Blue R Flex Halo XL 5i-DW CBX 54* & 58* ER5 Tour S
TSauer
Midsize here as well, the thicker grips just feel better in my hands. However, everyone is different and it may turn out to be something you hate. If I were you, I would just regrip a few irons and hit a few balls and see how they feel before committing to the whole set. fixyurdivot
I switched to midsize after a Srixon fitter was noticing my grip/wrap in 2019. I settled on the GP Align and have really liked them. Looking at most fitting charts, I am usually on the fence between standard and midsize... but it depends on OEM. Now when I grab a standard, it feels weird. I will say that for about the first month after the switch, my fingers felt a little strained, but that went away. Probably should just try one and see how you like it. tony@CIC 1 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Official Review)
Headhammer
I've gone back and forth over the years because my hands are tweeners. I am currently rolling with a mid-size on my driver and standard +4 on the rest of my set. tony@CIC
For starters, I wear a XL glove. More often then not when I try a new club at fittings or just browsing in a store, I find that I tend to grip the stock STD grips too hard. I've tried several combinations from Std to Jumbo and have ended up on my ideal grip set-up = Midsize with 3 layers of tape. This works regards of the grip that I use which is currently CPX for all except wedges, those are MCC+4. MIGregB
I've used mid-sized grip for years. For me, they just feel better and helps me avoid a death-grip. It might be a good exercise for you to put one on a favorite full swing club rather than your wedges, though, since we often hold them differently anyway. Either way, you can try it out for a bit before committing to the entire set. Haile
I switched over to Golfpride MCC +4 midsize and I'll never look back. Like many others have said, I no longer feel like I'm squeezing the grip so hard. My hands are much more relaxed. Which in turn allows me to just let the club release instead of forcing it. I have small hands so it took a few swings to get used to. But I'm not going back. Albatross Leather
I've used both, but ended up just going with the standard +4 reduced taper grips. I tended to have a lot more miss hits with the mid-sized grips, but it's really a feel thing. I would measure your hands first to make sure what the recommended size is, and then regrip one of your mid irons with it for a range session to see if you like it or not. brogies
I've used standard sized grips for a while, but I recently upgraded to almost midsize by building up standard grips with 3 wraps and I like it a lot. I do notice my grip isn't as death grippy.
