PXG Allan Putter - 2024 Forum Review

Recommended Posts

This is a fantastic putter.  I replaced my LAB putter with the Allan.  Ball feels good off the face and very stable thru the hitting area.  Now, if it could only read my putts for me….

I’d say a little firmer than the DF3, but nothing that I think would cause damage.

The feedback on this putter is nice. You know right away if you struck it solid or not.

And hits off the toe or heel still seem to be closer misses than with a another mallet or a blade style putter. The whole thing seems really stable.

The biggest issue for me is the shaft alignment. I just have to be intentional about being over the ball, but then it works like a dream. You still have to make the read correctly though, it's not 100% magic! 😆

the shaft lean is also one of the things that i didnt like about the lab putter.  it seem to throw off my alignment to the hole.  i guess over time that is something you can get use to.

when you say you need to be consistent with your set up and ball position what do you exactly mean.   are you finding that you need to stand more on top of the ball as compared to your other putters or farther away?

I have to be right over the ball, which I should be doing anyway. This forces me to be closer to the ball a bit. The shaft angle is different than my Odyssey, so it's just something I have to adjust to.

Not really anything different. More so making sure the ball is in the same spot front to back. The putter has built in shaft lean..

I want there to be a difference off center.  I use that to my advantage.  When I have fast downhill putts I putt off the toe to deaden the strike.    I put a small mark out towards the toe for when I want to hit the "dead" putt.

I love the putter.

I’ve been rolling the Allan in the house on the carpet, putting mat, and Exputt.

But before we get into my first report I’m going to mention @GolfSpy BOS-Dad’s first impressions:

IMG_1932.jpeg

he liked the weight and feel during the stroke.

he also was enjoying the single, long sightline and how it is uninterrupted. He said it was a big help for his “old eyes” in getting him aimed correctly.

I think I noticed his stroke was smoother than I remembered, and the Allan is probably something he should try out on the course or putting green to see how it impacts his putting in a normal round of golf.

For me, there was no adjustment period.  I've rolled a bunch of putts to get a read on the feel of the putter and hit some around the edges to see what that was like.  A few sessions in and I don't feel any issues switching between the Allan, my LABs, or the Evnroll.  I actually spent some good time with all 4 putters today on exputt and will be sharing those results once I get my thoughts down and organized.

Thinking back to when I first tried the LAB putters (which feature similar looking onset shafts and angles) it did take me a few trips to the local golf store for playing around before I thought I might actually be able to play on.  I did not immediately get along with that, but now it is a complete non-issue.  I really think the Low- or No-Torque Renaissance we're having right now is something that every golfer should at least go out and try.

Almost right away. I've used my Odyssey for a few years and it lines up differently than the Allan. But just holding the PXG I remember I need to address the ball slightly different. After a couple of days it was second nature, even switching back and forth.

Love the reel! Well done!

Looks like everyone is getting along nicely with Allan so far! Great to read! Keep the reviews coming! I'm excited to see how you all fare with it throughout the test! Hopefully it improved your putting performances like the LAB DF3 did for my putting!

Had the chance to roll one of these last week and was impressed. Put it head to head against a DF3 with a steel shaft and think both were great.

Different feels, different sounds and way they feel, but both are stupid solid.

Like others, I noted the "shaft lean". I have to make myself concentrate on the line on top of the clubhead. I did find my eyes wandering to look at the shaft a few times. I told myself "Forget about the shaft angle. The angle of the head is the most important thing. FOCUS!" 🤣 By the end of the first round, I was getting in a better routine. So for me, the adjustment period was a few holes on the first round that I used the club.

Looking at the finishing of the Allan putter, you can see that PXG puts a lot of effort into fit and finish.

With the Allan in particular, the S-Hosel is really well done, and connects very cleanly to the head and M16 shaft.
