RoverRick
I was just reading Barbajo's thread about the stolen golf clubs. Now, that we have cursed the villain's mortal so and banished them to and eternity of watching Tommy Copper and other golf infomercials. We have discussed the wisdom of lack there of of leaving your clubs in the car on the other thread. NOW, the fun stuff. Let's say it happened to you and your the insurance company valued your clubs and other stuff at $2600. You now have $1600 to get a bag together. What do you get? Give it some thought and post below. I will post after some research. Note: Added at 8 pm. Participation in this thread does not constitute a plan to have your club stolen. You still have to prove you lost $2600 worth of stuff to get $1600. I got a pm asking. LMAO. HighFade
Brings up a good point. I always noticed that people (myself included) don't give it a second thought to leave their $1,500-$2,000 worth of clubs sitting in front of the clubhouse while they're inside having a drink, etc. I wouldn't leave my clubs on my front porch for more than 5 minutes. But at the course, they stay for hours unattended. If someone walked up and casually picked up my clubs and drove away, no one would notice a thing. There is no spoon. RoverRick
As you can see, the ins money won't cover it. This is sort of a fun exercise but it would not be fun in real life. I seriously doubt that most of us could actually build a really nice set from scratch for that money. In Barbajo's case, who inspired this thread, that Hippo wedge is irreplaceable. GolfSpy WD
I'd probably use it as a chance to get a fully fit bag, maybe going to a fitter who is willing to fit me for last year's models depending on how much above the $1600 I'd be willing to go. GolfSpy Barbajo
Got new info on the heist of the century - the kids didn't event get out of the neighborhood with the clubs - just dumped then into the hedges two doors down!!! Anyway - with $1600 I'd do the following: Cleveland 588 CB irons (have my eye on a set at Golfsmith for $599) Cobra Baffler hybrids (love 'em, and since they're kinda old, they're a good buy) $100 for two Callaway Xhot2 3 wood $179, Driver $229 Cleveland wedges, $200 Replacement for the irreplaceable Hippo wedge, $18 That leaves a little less than $300 for a new bag and rangefinder.... revkev
Did my insurance company issue me a check? Or am I sending them receipts so that I may be reimbursed??? Having been through this scenario they give you the option of either a check that is the replacement value of what was stolen minus a deductible or replacing it. In my case we took the check for my clubs and had them replace my son's. The check was made out to my Pro's club and he was able to offset the deductible by getting clubs for me at his cost. (It helps to be the Rev sometimes). I recall that the check was 1440 and I did quite nicely. If I were doing this it would give me the excuse that I needed to quit playing golf. I'm sick of how poorly I'm hitting the ball anyway. Other than the social aspect it's really become no fun. Good thing 40 percent of the game is around the greens. You can't imagine how poorly you can hit the ball and still break 80 most of the time if you drive it in play and then chip and putt. I shot 80 yesterday with two penalty strokes, two shanks and 3 hit greens.
