NiftyNiblick
Time to consider gear for next year. No choice. My dog nearly took a finger from me while I was trying to make her take a pill that she needed. My 2015 golf season is definitely over as the snow will be here before I'm good to go again. The little ****** has been climbing all over me this morning trying to make friends again. I didn't let her sleep in my room last night. Although I'm stuck on vintage metalwoods that I really like, it may be time to finally accept the Third Millennium and give hybrids a try. A possible lineup is presented below. Who's going driver--one fwy mtlwd-two hybrids at the top of his/her bag?

NiftyNiblick
As expensive as equipment is, Foz, and I'm not suggesting that it isn't, it still pales in comparison with the cost of playing. It seems to me that if we can somehow find a way to afford playing, the equipment part is the least of it.

NiftyNiblick
Since 13º is a driver to me, I don't wonder why it struggles for elevation off the deck! With my old Titleist set, which I will never give up, I called the 17 degree metal my three wood. Even 15 is sketchy if the lie is even imperceptibly downhill. You NEED to give that up- nobody is good enough to play that set! Dci962 (if they're B's your a masochist)... Man the sweet spot on those is the size of a ball point pen, I know because when I was a decent player I tried em and failed, miserably. Still own a PT 15* though- great fairway metal, awesome memories with that guy.

NiftyNiblick
At the end of the day, the fact remains that I bought a very expensive Hogan FW-15 set that I love, aesthetically, but which isn't ideal for my game. My first set new was shiny forged irons (PowerBilt Citations), but that's all that was made in 1959. The cast stainless clubs wouldn't appear for another decade. There were a very few stainless steel blades, but they were buffed to a mirror finish that looked chromed. Now though, shiny irons, cavity or no cavity, make my brain think "beautiful but difficult" while dull gray, stainless steel irons make my brain think, "OK, I'm in my element." The DCI 962s (not Bs) were/are dull gray. We know how the Hogan's got me. No club numbers. I hate club numbers. Perhaps I belong in well-padded quarters, but for whatever reason, I hate club numbers because they don't mean what they used to mean. But here's what I didn't know a few months ago. I could have gotten stainless steel Edel cavity backs, very clean uncluttered appearance as I like, and they may be ordered with no club numbers as well. The pictures show the loft on the sole and the club number on the back. Until you dig deeply, however, you don't discover that either can be deleted on order. In fact, if you like to use "the force" when choosing clubs, both can be deleted. You can even choose the color of the paint fill in the stampings, just like with the wedges. The Edel irons, not just the wedges, were the clubs that I needed to buy. I don't even have to hit them to know. If the length and lie angles are right--if the shafts and grips are right--there is no question in my mind that I can hit them. They look classy, but they're dull gray stainless steel, and thus, they will sooth my (very damaged from nearly sixty years of golf) brain. The Titleist PTs won't need changing until I stop hitting them decently. I don't care how old they are. But those gorgeous Hogan irons are mocking me for being taken in by their beauty and lack of club numbers. It wasn't an inexpensive mistake. And I don't ever sell clubs. I still have those Citations.
