Shankster
I stumbled upon this article about the 915 Titleist offerings. Really wish they would have made that 400cc D5. The compact look would fit my eye perfectly. Doesn't look like a balloon. There are more pictures elsewhere on the internet, but this thing looks sweet. https://mygolfspy.com/leaked-titleist-915-details/

Shankster
Yup. Heads too big, shafts too long. I would like to see a little back off on both. Here, here. From what I read about it, they built the 400cc for AS. Those are my initials, I'll take it off his hands. I'd like to see this hit the market with the 919's. I know it won't, but I can only hope. If not, I guess a 905 is in order.

mdumble21
I grew up hitting my dad's old Shark driver which was a similar size to that TriRail above, although maybe a tiny bit bigger. Using something so small (compared to a modern driver) obviously helps you hit more shots out of the sweet spot. fraasty
I will say that i usually smack my fairway woods really good so with the mini i play it just like i do my 4 wood except i tee it a bit higher. revkev
Lets be clear - there is no way a club with a head of 225 cc can be as forgiving as one with 460. Do what you want, enjoy, but if you aren't at around at least 440 you're giving something away in a game that's brutally difficult to begin with. Shankster
Forgiveness sure. Confidence... that all depends. I know plenty of people that hit their 3 wood 150-200cc far better than their 460cc behemoth. Are the 3 woods they are using less forgiving? JohnnyPenso
It's all about being able to consistently deliver a squarish club face to the ball. Just my opinion based on my own personal success, but anyone that struggles with the big head and doesn't experiment with a shorter shaft is really missing out on what could be a golden opportunity. For me anyway, many of my driver consistency issues were dramatically improved with chopping my stock 46" X2Hot down to 44". No loss in distance at all, likely because I'm hitting the sweet spot more often and taking a more confident swipe at the ball. Finding many more fairways and far fewer bad mishits. For the record, I also own the Taylormade Mini and it hasn't seen the light of day since cutting down my driver this winter.

Shankster
Being able to hit the 3 wood better has to do with the shorter shaft not a more forgiving head. So an inch...? Maybe 1.5 I'd wager a guess that a choked down driver at that same length of the 3 wood would still be worse for them.
GB13
I think it could be mental too. For most amateurs the thought with a driver is to swing as hard as possible. With the 3 wood that might not be the thought. Maybe they will think to slow down a little and find the fairway. Shankster
I think my main point was overlooked. Some people like to look at big chunky SGI irons, big hybrids, big fairways. And other like a compact blade, smaller fairways, etc. Like my original post, Titleist built a 400cc for Adam Scott, obviously he didn't end up using it, but they built it for a reason. Might be an extremely small percentage of players that enjoy looking at smaller clubs, and I am one of them. Not just the pros like compact looking stuff. Anything with too much offset and my confidence goes out the window. Huge fairway metals, gone there too. Chunky clubs... definitely gone. It just sets off the “yuck†transmitter in my brain, and I will hit it like crap no matter the MOI, or whatever other tech it might have.
