I am lucky to be a tester and I have the same issue. I have always played Prov1 to help knock down my spin and launch. I do miss some greenside spin however. I have been playing a box of chrome tours and like them a lot. They are the closest direct comp I've found to the Prov1 ever.

I'm very excited to get my TP5s and see how they slot in! I haven't disliked previous iterations of the tp5 and they were probably my 2nd choice to Prov1s in the past.  So if they've made improvements this could be the year they overtake them for my game.  Hopefully my findings in this test will help inform your decisions!

I go through the same thing, I just consistently come back to Titleist. It’s funny, @Itzpiiz has saying for me, when a round is going sideways, pull out a ProV and it will turn around. Even thought about getting a “break in case of emergency” box for me lol they are a damn great ball

So I didn’t get outside golf in today due the amazing four season day we’ve had in Northeast Ohio this far but I did get a sim round in on lunch today. I can say that the TP5 is LONG! The spin on pitches and chips will take getting used to as my run outs were not close to normal, and I’m fine with that just need more time. 1 ball held up pretty good I did notice this blemish after the round but it could be from manufacture and didn’t seem to inhibit performance. There were some indications my sand wedge may have bit into the cover a bit but nothing that affected performance. Here’s an example of eachIMG_6824.jpeg.0bafd394974ff3088718578c49735c05.jpegIMG_6822.jpeg.207dee4a62762e1e5ed89617f86f8eae.jpeg

I just recieved 4dz TP5x MySymbol from the promotion and 15 of the balls had the same blemishes or worse than what you posted (one has a cut through the cover). I need to go back and count how many had any blemishes, it's likely over half of them.

I'm still excited to try them out with the Qi10 LS once the weather cooperates. The driver has been money.

It jumped off my BRNR Mini and I was able to work the fade I like to play with very little effort on my part. Draws were a bit different but that’s more my swing right now than anything

Have been playing both the TP5 and TP5x in the sim for the last month.  I’m finding the TP5x to be longer by 5-7 yards and have faster ball speed by 10mph than the TP5.  I’ve not played the ProV1 or the X or left dash much.  I have hit them a few times and it always felt like I was hitting a rock.  Not my cup of tea.  I do have a sleeve of Titleist AVX  and the previous generation of TP5/TP5x. Will be comparing them all head to head hopefully by early next week.  My own simulator is going up this weekend, so I will be able to do better, more consistent testing with data downloads- something I am currently unable to do at the commercial sim I play at.

I did warm up with a TP5x and can say that I did see a 5-7 yard difference on my GW and 7i but on my driver I didn’t notice it as much. They both felt pretty good to me but I like the TP5 a bit more. That said if I could only get my hands on a box of the X I wouldn’t be upset

I prefer the TP5x for feel...but this is all on the sim, I don't know how I'll like it (or any other ball) until I get it out on the golf course and actually play it off of grass (or sand... I'm really good at finding sand!!).  Of course, the 15cm of snow we got in the last 2 days isn't speeding up the opening day any. 😞

Thats good feedback - I've gamed the TP5 / TP5x in the past and felt the same on the x.  Hoping you get some warmer weather soon!

Testing

its been snowing on and off for a week and the corses were closed! However this weekend it’s sunny and I  have some time set aside to get some work in!
however I have been chipping around at home with my daughter and the balls are holding up surprisingly well due to my kiddo hitting into the rocks a and the wall!

I’ll be going out this weekend to test a little harder I have to also get my computer fixed will be a better update Monday! But the ball is holding up well after about 200 chip shots plus some child smacks into the wall! I’m showing no blemishes or scuff marks! Spin has been great even though the ground is wet!

Hello From Ohio

Introducing myself to all of you Spy's, hi I'm Ian and you can probably guess from the title where I live. I have been given many nicknames and the 2 that have stuck the longest are WIB and Beandip. Any and all work for me so you all can chose whichever you like best!

IMG_6657.jpeg.32884643c96f0610458556d897bbbe8d.jpeg

I started playing the game when I was 12 at Rolling Greens on my birthday and was hooked. The course was 3/4 of a mile from the house garage to range mats! Sadly it is now a housing development but the memories I have of that course are comforting. I still have the TM <Tour Preferred> 5 Wood that was in the bag back then!

s-l1200.jpeg.338b47fead1a003246663b7b12abd08c.jpeg

These days I'm trying to get down below a 10 handicap I try to play at least twice a week in season. 1 weekday round and at then at least 1 weekend round with the best playing partners ever!IMG_3073.jpeg.289a7bc925d51620ca9af454710a8007.jpeg

Testing Goals

I have mainly played Titleist lines for the last 20 years. I enjoyed the NXT Tour and Pro-V1 lines, and for a brief blip the DT So-Lo. Recently I have been gaming a Kirkland Signature based upon value and the quality/durability has seemed to be worth the cost.

IMG_6660.jpeg.9718fde1f1ab894ae52f9f03712e2851.jpeg

I am planning on running the TP5 Pix through its paces next to both of these ball lineups. Distance, stopping, green side control all the standard ideas. However, my father in law has a stock pile of older TM balls so I want to also run the TP5 next to some of those to see how far the TM line has come.

The Pix ball has fascinated me since I saw it on a shelf when TM debuted it. I really like the idea of extra alignment assistance, but the 2 grey and black aid marks on the poles of the ball have me pretty intrigued. I have on occasion had issue focusing on one spot on the ball. This aid off the tee I'm hoping will help keep me focus and help in FIR's. I'm aware of the 5 layer progressive speed construction and I like this idea. Combine that with more spin help and a soft feel, sign me up.

IMG_6659.jpeg.853be0d73776b02566ec2ba779679ed0.jpeg

The things I'm really looking for in the ball are durability and alignment aid assistance. If the ball is equivalent to the Pro-V1 and Kirkland in durability and feel the tie breaker is how well the Pix system helps me to focus on the ball on all shots across the course. If that helps me play even 3-5 strokes better I'm willing to put the TP5 in the bag for the long haul!

Was out for about an hour hitting pitches and chips from 25 yards and in and love the spin! The TP5 popped and stopped and rolled out when I wanted it to, but the one hop and stop was great to see!

Got two dozen vice pro for Christmas this year, tried them out and seemed fine, but then had two dead out of the box. Next day put both a TP5 and TP5x in play and were wonderful. Got about 9 holes out of the TP5x, tried playing it longer but probably shouldn’t have

Was finally able to do some range work from around 60 yards and did notice about a 5 yard difference between the new balls and the old balls! I will take them out on the course next to get some true stats on the ball! I was out for about an hour and one of the balls finally has a scuff mark on it! The spin rate was close to the same as the previous model but that’s fine with me! I did do some putting as well but didn’t get any pics or videos due to dead battery! Will get some if I can next time! But the orange really pops when you hit a good roll!

Hello Spies!

My name is Ronnie and I'm very excited to have my first testing opportunity with such a great product. I selected the TP5 pix as my test ball.

I am a former D3 collegiate golfer. I quit playing for 10 years after college due to some back issues. I got that under control a few years ago and decided to pick the game back up in the summer of 2023.

I live in West Tennessee and am a member at a local course, Woodland Hills, which is where I'll be doing the bulk of my testing. Since picking the game back up I have gone harder than ever. I work 2nd shift, so I sacrifice quite a bit of sleep to play 3-4 morning rounds each week along with range sessions 2-3 times a week as well.

Screenshot_20240202_191550_Gallery.jpg.edc4098e3f1fc0a6beba743a9f46489b.jpg

Playing so much has knocked the rust off pretty quickly and I'm close to where I was in college, currently a 3HCP. I'd say I'm probably even more consistent now then I was in college. My goal is to get to scratch by the end of this year.

I'm a serial golf ball dabbler although I usually end up back at the standard ProV1 as my gamer. I like the low flight and low spin with driver but wish it had a bit more bite around the greens.  I want to see if I can finally find a ball that gives me the lower flight I need without sacrificing the spin I'd like to have with my irons and wedges, yet someone not spin too much with driver. Oh, and a soft ball is a must; A big ask, I know. However, I have high hopes for this iteration of the TP5.

From all I have read about this ball, it could provide what I'm looking for. I like the sound of the speed wrapped core for better feel.  image.png.154ac8d5e8d86978d55ba4d858cf4635.png

I chose it over the TP5x based on expected feel and spin around the green. I'm fairly long anyway, so I'm not particularly worried about added distance I could get from the x. I chose Pix design because I like visual aids, but haven't liked previous Pix/clearpath designs. It looks cool but did nothing for my alignment. So I'm curious if the tweaks to the design will benefit me. There is a lot of hype around this ball so I hope it lives up to it.

Almost all of my testing will be on course or on the practice greens. I don't have access to a sim or launch monitor so I can't provide raw data, but I'm pretty adept at reading my own shots for things like launch and spin. I play a lot so I know what my shots should look and act like. I plan to compare this ball to other balls I have use from this cycle: ProV1, Chrome tour, TP5x, and the previous version of the TP5, that I used for a while last year. I liked a lot about the previous TP5. Good feel, good spin with irons and wedges, particularly greenside. The only thing that kept it out of bag is that it was waaay to spinny off the driver for me. If they have tapered that down in this year's version without losing what I already liked, then it could be a keeper.

I'm very excited to get out on the course and give it go!

I've now played several rounds in varying conditions with the TP5xs and my although my game has been up and down, the balls have performed well. They have a really nice, high launch with lower spin. Especially with driver. When I connect with driver its a moonshot but still getting some roll. I was worried about the short game spin considering these are "low spin" balls but they bite when you make them. It's not excessive, but if you know how to generate spin on a 20 yard pitch then these will react how you expect. That aspect of TaylorMade's new cover has impressed me. My number one concern at the moment is durability. I'm getting significant scuffs on just about every well struck wedge shot.

Both these balls were damaged after just a single wedge shot from middle of the fairway. One was a 90% lob wedge shot and the other was a 70% 54 degree wedge shot. I normally goes through ProV1s and other premium balls pretty quickly anyway, but TP5x is definitely less durable, at least for my wedge style.

Was there anything about the ball you did or didn't like over the previous version?

Yeah there is some work to be done on my end when it comes to consistency I’ll be taking some lessons here in a few days! The higher visibility of the alignment diamonds when putting has been a huge upside for me! The only downside is there is starting to be some scuff marks. Appearing on the balls after some countless wedge work! (When I don’t hit a baseball field of grass behind the ball)

There is something about the Pix. The Callaway Truvis, Srixon Divide, and TM Tour Response Stripe all drive me nuts, but the Pix doesn't bother me.

A few videos of a chipping test I did. They responded very well around the greens. The conditions were damp and I was still able to limit the run out on a short-sided chip that is landing on a downslope. Pardon the camera work as my 12 year old son was doing the filming.

More green side testing and the TP5 continues to shine! Flops, when I can hit them, are landing and stopping good for me. Coming from Kirkland Signature these balls are crushing it. The alignment aids are definitely helping me stay down by giving me a focal point on all shots. Should get another round in with them this weekend.

I’ve got a bad reeling about this

I’m also noticing that my wedges are staring to bite into the cover on mine as well. Plan on heating those specifically this weekend off the tee with the driver and 5 wood alongside a fresh sleeve to see if there is a performance difference in flight and distance.

My balls arrived Thursday as I am international and shipping was a little slower for obvious reasons. I've posted my first impressions of the TP5's. I'll get into some launch monitor data in the coming week, but so far, it's really hard to fault them. I really love the feel of these balls. I didn't think I would prefer another ball to the ProV1 and Srixon Z Star for putting, but this feels incredible off the face.

Got out for another 9 holes today in better conditions, and shot 2 over par which is 3 under my handicap for that 9. It could have been level par if my putting was better as I missed a couple more makeable birdie putts. Today was the first day I feel like I really played well enough to see the performance of the ball, as it was light wind and mostly rain free apart from a few light patches. I've yet to lose a ball over the 36 holes I've played to date which has been good to see wear and tear on the ball. I had some full wedges with the ball and it has a few scuffs although it's not unplayable or excessive, but it may not match some of the more durable balls. I should be able to verify this during my durability testing.

Today was dryer than previously so I had a good opportunity to check out the spin. Had a full PW which came back about 5 yards, a little more than I expected given we had our greens cored 3 weeks ago, and we've had rain on the day. They were fairly predictable, I hit a 3/4 9 iron to control the spin on the next hole and it spun back about a foot which is what I'd expect on our greens.

You can see the marks on the ball here just above the red line

DSC01614.jpg.eca47a23c8315c7c82e421c37f243937.jpg

Didn't notice this until I took the photos but there is an A W O on the ball. Does anyone know why?

DSC01615.jpg.19bf145c369400692fad39965bdf697e.jpg

Another bit of the wear and tear. The wear looks fairly obvious here because it's zoomed in, but most of them aren't that visible to the naked eye.

Good job on the round. Same ball through 3 rounds is great! The markings were determined to be batch/plant #s I believe,  as I had them very visible on the Bridgestone balls as well.

Thanks. That makes sense.

I can normally get through 3 rounds without a problem. Our course isn't particularly bad when it comes to lost balls, but I've also been better at playing smart golf and not trying the high risk shots I used to when I was younger.
