Donn lost in San Diego
1. I believe that Power Bilt mentioned above was made by baseball bat kings, Hillerich and Bradsby H&B. 2. Don Martin. I use a Martin Up-n-In chipper. Bronze or copper. (Eventually I will learn how to attach my photos.) 3. Stan Thompson, the Ginty and Ginty 2, V shape soles. 4. Copper Classic, some kind of knock-off of Ping Eye 2 or King Cobra, but I think it was just copper color, not real BeCu. 5. I had a Pebble Beach wedge, it had the lone Cypress tree on the back. 6. And the king, maybe not here but at St. Andrews, I have a set of George Nicoll Monogram Handmade Stainless. Leven, Fife, Scotland. 2-9 irons. Brand sold by the family in 1982 to St. Andrews Co. Nicoll was a blacksmith who started making irons irons around 1880 ? and is credited with being the first to make a set of numbered, loft gapped, irons instead of single name clubs like cleek or mashie. Mr_BogeyPro
It is not a forgotten company, but maybe one that is not on the map for many golfers; Adams Tight Lies. I have their old 3 - 9 woods and they are amazing. So easy to hit. I know they tried to reintroduce their clubs in 2021, but really never caught on again. Another company is Olimar. I remember back in the day, the commercials used to highlight the tri-metal. The last company is Pure Spin, with 'real diamonds' on the face for better spin. I was suckered into buying the attack and sand wedge. They were not bad, huge club heads, but they weren't as good as other wedges. Julius
When I first started to play golf around 30+ years ago, I bought a Tight Lies fairway wood, which I had seen in an info commercial. This was 3 "wood" which was really a metallic head at the time and steal shaft. I liked that club but it was in a bag that ended up being stolen many years ago in a breakin, so no longer bouncing around my collection. I see that Adams Golf has this brand name now but not sure if that is the same (as I don't recall this being Adams at the time although maybe it was). I had a Never Compromise putter a long time ago as well that I liked and, yes, was in the same bag that was stolen (it was an "extra" staff bag where I stored my older/not used clubs and they took the whole thing). MacGregor is another brand that my father in law had with "real" woods which was the first set of clubs that I ever used. rx999
Slazenger copper putters - were pushed with multiple fitting/customization option about 25 years ago - great feeling putter - still have one on the backend of the rotation. Coming from Western Canada, you couldn't miss Jazz golf clubs from around the same time. Wayne McAllister
My first set of clubs were hand me downs from our Club Pro, who happened to be a staff pro for Golfcraft. The golf company was purchased by a new club company called Acushnet, also known as Titleist. I remember seeing their ads in golf magazines showing their forged clubs with steel and/or fiberglass shafts, a precursor to graphite shafts. I played them for a few years until I bought an early set of Ping Eye irons and woods. I still have that set.
