Agree, it would be great to see Horschel win it... or Henley, or Burns or Lawrence, or Rosie (that would be really cool). Definitely some names I did not see being there after day 3; as is evident by my T363 spot in the pool . Splatt
That back 9 absolutely brutalised the guys today!!! I know a lot of them were grumpy and complaining when they finished, but I LOVED watching that! ballhawk
I've got 2 picks I'd like to see win. First is the light up a smoke and hey let's take a selfie - Mr. Brown. I think if he plays with that same almost cavalier attitude and catches a couple of breaks (he's due at least 2 from those standing in the bunker ball above his waist shots he had to pull off) he may just have an outside chance. Can't help but root for an underdog. Second is Billy H. He is long past due to win a major, plus I like the way he sneaks up on the ball before he putts. Grateful
Billy Horschel's investment playing previously in some DP tourneys (like the Dunhill Links Championship in the UK) is paying dividends this week at Royal Troon. No hesitation in his approach, tactics. His scrambling on the links course has been superb; he managed to record one-putt pars Saturday on almost every hole on the treacherous back nine. He seemed to revel in the wind and rain as if he knew the harsh weather worked to his advantage. He came prepared. We'll watch to see if he can sustain that rain-soaked swagger through the final round. ILMgolfnut
65 on Sunday in a major will generally get it done. Now Xander gets to defend his Olympic gold medal. That will be an interesting tournament, too. I think I wound up top-300 in the pool. Which is an improvement; Thursday I was in the 800s. Middler
Well that was fun to watch. Lots of people in contention into the start of the back nine, with several lead changes. But in the end Schauffele did what it took to win it. Now that he has two majors, I suspect he will play with even more confidence from here on. Syks7
Well that was fun. Watching the Open this year made me think a couple things 1. Royal Troon made me wish I could spend 4 months in Scotland with a car, my clubs, no budget, and no responsibilities. No disrespect to Royal Liverpool, but the course was far more appealing to me from an interesting to play perspective. 2. It was a good end to the majors season (4 good tournaments) and I'm bummed we have to wait until April for the next one. I'm glad we have the Olympics, if nothing else than for something different, to slightly shorten the wait until next majors season. The Fedex cup just isn't that interesting and I hope they come up with a better solution eventually. fixyurdivot, Middler and TJ Hall 3 Quote Driver 0311 Gen 5 -- Ventus Velocore+ Blue Hybrids 0317X 2&3 -- Tensei CK Orange Irons ZX7 4/AW -- C-Taper Lite 110 Wedges RTX Zipcore 56/10º@55º 58º/10 C-Taper Lite 110 Putter Link.1 -- Accra Ball Zstar Diamond

Having spent nearly four weeks in the past 9 months doing exactly that (OK, I had a budget, but the rest of it fit), I highly recommend it. There are more great courses than you could possibly play. I can think of five Scottish courses I've played that are better than Royal Troon, and I've only played nine. ILMgolfnut
23 hours ago, Syks7 said: my clubs, no budget, and no responsibilities. Let me expand further on the budget part. If you just want to go over there and play courses on the Open rota, you can do that and spend a boatload of money (and you'd better be planning it a year-plus in advance, because that's how far out you have to go to get a tee time at Muirfield). But if you just play the courses you see on TV, or the ones the golf tour companies steer you toward, you'll miss a lot of great golf. Take Brora, for instance. You'll never see it on TV, but it's a blast to play, and high season (meaning summer) green fees are a fraction of any of the Open courses, or Castle Stuart, or Kingsbarns, or Trump International, or any of the other links tourist traps. And the hack to get on great courses for less is to enter tournaments. High season rate at Royal Dornoch is 280 pounds. I played it two weeks ago in a tournament for 60 pounds. There are websites that will have the next season's tournament schedule in December or January, and you can look there and piece together a great itinerary for not much money. I entered five tournaments there for less than that one high season round at Dornoch would have cost. TJ Hall and Grateful 2 Quote Obsessed with chasing the dimpled orb.
