Absolutely could.  At check in.  Being your bag, a quick glance at each club.  Have a nice day.

Check in where And which specific rules are you evaluating?  Or are you advocating for a check in prior to their heading to the first tee before each round?

Doesn’t say who called it in.  He refused to answer that question.  It was nit the photographer as I am 99% confident he is gone prior to the start of the tournament; which is based on my talking to him in the past.

Hard to know for sure, but why was the pic taken? I hope it wasn’t a gotcha, where the picture taker could have just mentioned the rule about it at the time the picture was taken. Again, I’m just exploring one possibility, I don’t know.

WRX have taken WITB pictures for many years;  They do this every tournament for multiple players bags.  He asks the caddie if he can take pictures, pulls the clubs from the bag, and then photographs them.  I doubt he is even thinking about the rules of golf when taking the photos as he is trying to get as many photos as possible.   Again, as stated in the video of posted above,  having it in the bag isn’t illegal nor is using it during practice rounds.  The video even stated Hideki’s club guy thought it was legal and only illegal on driver.

I’m sorry, but this Hideki Thing is ridiculous. Like they little bit of paint will “help” him.  If anything, since it was raised. You’d think it would make the ball flight worse…

Let me ask you a question.  What is the line between where something is legal and illegal and who interprets if “the applied substance” helps or hinders performance?   Let’s look at the launch monitor dots; they are far enough from the center of the face that no pro will hit them but they are illegal. Should I allow them to be in certain positions and rely on measurement to determine legality?   How about chapstick or similar substance on part of the face but not the center?

also we are only talking about the 3 wood but the driver had the same white out substance But not near the center of the face; was that legal?  If so, is the location of the substance important?

    Social media strikes again!

"Our committee became aware through some pictures that were posted that there may be a substance that has been painted on the face of one of Hideki's clubs," Rintoul explained. "And we approached Hideki and went through the process. Hideki, are you carrying this club? Yes. Have you used this club? Because if he hasn't used the club, it's okay to carry a nonconforming club, you just can't use it. Have you used this club? Well, the poor guy has played one hole, and he managed to use it off the first tee.

Yes,  it doesn’t answer my question about who, alerted the committee.  The article I linked indicated they would not say who contacted them.  I interpreted the post I quoted as it was the photographer that notified the tour and knew it was illegal prior to the start of the event.  Pretty sure it wasn’t him as the WRX photographer generally leaves prior to the start of the event.

  4. 7 minutes ago, Middler said:

Too bad the person who took the picture, presumably knowing it wasn't legal, didn't just alert Hidecki's people a couple days ago when it was first seen. He/she waited until Hidecki teed of Thursday...

Where did you hear who or when the tour was alerted?  I doubt it was the WRX individual that took the photos as he is simply taking pictures of equipment in the bags and at the practice facilities.   Also, during the days prior to the start of the event, players have things like the launch monitor dots on their clubs which are also illegal, clubs that will not make the bag once the event starts, and sometimes more than 14 clubs. The expectation should be that the players and there team know the rules and would alleviate any issues prior to the start of the round.  Even having the best intentions I doubt anyone; with any tour level authority, would go to his team and say the club was illegal prior to the start of play.

I am trying to switch from a Sr to R shaft for my Ping G400 3 fairway. There's not many listings for used Alta ones. Any other suggestions on a used shaft? If it is not the stock shaft, will it fit my existing adapter. I am new to swapping shafts.

There are a multitude of shaft options available in the used market.  You have a couple of options.
    1. buy a used shaft with a g400 adapter already installed.  This is the easiest option as it is just screw in and play.   Just pay attention to the shaft length to be sure you get the desired overall club length as the shaft length does not equal club length.  I don’t know the length you need to make it stock length; measure you Sr flex shaft to know.

    2. If you have an existing adapter or want to buy an adapter you can install that adapter on any shaft (new or used).  If you have the right tools and ability you could remove whatever adapter is on a used shaft and install the Ping adapter.  You could also take it to a club builder and get it swapped for probably about $20 or less.  If it is a new shaft, it is just appropriately prep the shaft, install the adapter, and cut to length.

the specific shaft you should get is up to you as you swing is what influences how well the shaft would work.  You can get shafts from cheap to expensive.  I’ve used Mikes Golf Outlet in the past for used shafts; you can select fairway woods shafts, flex, and tip to see what used shafts are available.   You could even pay them to change out the tip if you find a particular shaft brand/model you want.

If you click on the buy it now feature, the club they are recommending with come up with the loft. You can just back out and not purchase it.

I tried it and this doesn’t seem to work as you indicated.   One of my recommendations went to the default Callaway order screen and the other went to global golf with a configuration that did not match what was recommended.

    Irons:

    • 4-6: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold X100
    • 7-9: TaylorMade P7MC w/ Dynamic Gold X100

    Wedges: Various models of Vokeys from SM6 to SM8 46, 56, 52, 60

Interesting setup; not many people switch to specialized wedges starting with pitching wedge.  What was you reasoning/what did you gain?

100 MPH swing (148 ball speed) is never going to carry 250 even with perfect launch conditions (check it on flightscope trajectory optimizer).  With a realistic, good launch angle of about 15 deg, you could get 240.  235 I think would be a realistic goal at 100 MPH for a well struck shot at sea level without wind.

If you look at trackman number, carry for 100MPH swing is about 247 with optimal conditions (which is around 250).   I played with the flightscope tool and was able to manipulate numbers to get 250 carry with 148 ball speed at sea level.

Is it possible to fit irons and a driver in 30 mins? I got 30 mins with Calloway and 30 with ping this weekend. I'd like to get fitted for irons and driver but I am debating just doing driver for Calloway and irons for ping, as I doubt 30 mins will be enough time to be fitted for both.

    Possible?  Yes.

It will depend on how many options you want to try and how in depth of a fitting is being done.   My guess is that your warmup will be watched and you will be given a head based on how you hit the ball and then try a few stock shaft options.

I can’t be sure on the zx7 but 8-9 loft?? D9 nothing.. Can you guess?

I think those are just stock pictures and don't reflect the loft you would need.   You would need to hit the club to identify the loft that gives you the correct launch conditions.

the central question is--are the Golftec lessons, taken in a progression with the tools and feedback they are going to offer a better investment than visiting a pro (even on a series of lessons) without that constant accurate feedback.

I have had a few recent lessons from pros--again all good--but although they use video--they tend to give me a cue, and tell me to go work on it--which I do.  And come back in a couple of weeks.  At that point--I have usually "overdone" the cue.  Example--I was to in to out--given advice to swing left (which in the sweet moment it was working, got me open, great ball flight--and then I became--to out in.  And to be honest--the explanation of why I needed to do something wasn't great.

The guy doing it was young--not nearly the same experience as the pros I had seen.  BUT the evaluation tools, and the video--were great.  And his explanations of stuff combined with the video made a lot of sense.  and I was able to make a basic change pretty quickly.  Because I could see it and understand why.   I have a good intellectual grasp of the golf swing--but seeing yourself is hard.

My thought is the tools Golftec offers will enable faster progression with fewer missteps and a clearer path--particularly with getting to practice with their tools and video (which I find extremely difficult to do with any kind of accuracy myself).

I'm too busy to "dig it out of the dirt" by trial and error.  I think anyone out of their teens is.  I think the technology and guidance--as much from the technology as the young pro--will be really useful to my progression--more so than any thing else (except devoting myself to golf full time--which won't work).  I practice on a range 2-3 times a week, play 2-3 times a week, but more 9 holes than 18.

Here are my opinions on the points I quoted above:

progress will most likely be dependent on how you learn and how well you and the instructor communicate.  Age of the instructor is not relevant to quality of instruction.

most lessons are here are a couple of things to work on, come back in a couple of weeks.  During the lesson, the instructor should give you enough information to help make sure you are practicing correctly.  Sounds like you and the instructor did not communicate well.  An out to in path isn’t necessarily bad especially if you are getting good ball flight.

you mention instruction path.   You and an instructor should have a lesson plan and path regardless of what technology is used.  Some people like the technology and respond well to it; others don’t.  You need to evaluate what works for you.  There is a fairly recent thread on Golftec and the opinions are mixed; some think it is great and some say it is terrible.  The only opinion that matters is yours.  As for speed learning, that is all on you and what you do to learn the new skills.

you practice 2-3 times a week and play 2-3 times a week; you have plenty of time to “dig it out of the dirt” as that is something you still need to do when taking lessons. Dig it out if the dirt doesn’t mean trial and error; it is about building the feels and techniques that are being taught to you.

Just wondering if this still applies to the 2022 Phantom X line. Just purchased a 5.5 and was hoping to be able to get a black aftermarket shaft that would fit. Thanks!

Best option is to pull the shaft and use calipers to measure the existing shaft.

With rain in the forecast for the morning Thursday tee times, it’s going to be interesting to see how the AM/PM scores compare to PM/AM.

Not sure if this has been answered before, but how do players get assigned their Thurs/Fri tee times? Outside of being selected as a featured group, is it purely random or can they ask for a time frame? I’ve seen a ton of “tough luck” for the guys that had a PM/AM at PGA Championship and to go back a little, the Players.

It isn't entirely random as you will often see some predetermined groupings.  There is also some prioritization with past tour winners getting more mid day times instead of early/late.

That is what I have been looking into giving a try. The tiger 5 is something I am going to start tracking, but also thinking about doing the fundamentals to get the full effect.

I highly recommend DECADE fundamentals.  If you haven’t done the free month, it gives you a good overview before you commit and you don’t have to use a credit card.

. My game is improving but my scores are not. I sat down last night, while I was grilling steaks, and went through my last 10 rounds, searching for answers. I came to the conclusion, I have invested in great equipment, and training tools, and lessons, but I need a better mental approach and strategy. I have goals written down, but I need to be more focused on achieving them, not just hoping to achieve them.

Sounds a lot like where I have been/am with my game. I hit the ball well, don’t get myself in a lot of trouble but still get what I feel are too many bogeys or worse.   I did the DECADE 6 month fundamentals and learned a ton.  That said,  my focus has been on improving what he calls the Tiger 5.

4 and 5 are my Achilles heel right now.

  16. I’m thinking the Lab DF 2.1 experiment is over.   Distance control isn’t that bad, but really struggling with the 6-10 footers and not really seeing any Improvement over other putters.  The visual of the forward bent shaft and needing to keep tweaking my approach has gotten to be too much.  May go way back in the putter archive and go back to the basics I learned about 10 years ago.

    Covid is no joke.

But man, 2-3 days of flu-like symptoms and then just fatigue beyond belief.  Was finally able to get up and play with the kids yesterday but still need to take breaks after 15-20 minutes of walking around.

I am about 3 weeks out from catching it.  Still coughing and get worn out pretty easily.   Hope you start to feel better quickly.

Since Srixon came out with the ZX4, that fits the GI category.  ZX7 is players CB and ZX5 is players distance.  I play the ZX5's.

Yep,  that is how they are listed on the Srixon site today.   There were tested in different categories last year by MGS and since they were previously tested they weren't tested again this year.
