Love the look of these...but I really dont want to buy another set of clubs this year...ha

Depends on your definition of "older" but I still have my original Hogan Apex 99 blades from HS/College that I still throw in the bag from time to time. They still feel incredible!

Its hard to pick one but I would have to go with Ben Hogan. Yea, in their current state they aren't up there with the likes of the big guys but my entire golf world had Hogan equipment at some point.
I still have my original Hogan 99 Apex blades (2-EW) from HS/College, a set of PTX Pros and my Hogan Icon irons. All of them still perform well, and i will occasionally put them back in the bag.
I also had great luck with their fairway woods (the G53 line) before I lost it on a trip a few years ago. I always wanted to try their driver, maybe I will pick one up one of these days.
They also have a great utility iron with the UiHi line, I have a 3 iron build that is extremely fun to play with and might soon replace my iCrossover 2 Iron on a more full time basis

I absolutely regret selling my TRS2+ Fairway wood, that thing was an absolute rocket ship and fun to hit (off a tee and the deck)

Its been awhile since I posted on this, but really glad to see folks trying out and enjoying the "Jumbo Max" life!
I recently picked up a few of the Ultralight version of the grip to experiment a bit more and am finding that I am really liking them more than I originally did. More to come on that (also some pictures when I get home and get a few things regripped)

I would be glad to share my thoughts and experience with JumboMax grips. I originally was curious on them after seeing Bryson talk about them a few years ago and then I saw a video from Peter Finch about him trying them out, so I bought 3 or 4 of the Bryson grips (they are the really big jumbos). I threw them on a driver shaft, one on a wedge and 2 on backup set of irons (one on the 4 iron, one on the 7 iron).
At first, it was difficult to adjust to how big they were. I like that they felt very solid, and never made my hands feel like they would slip off or move. I messed with the Bryson grips for about a month, hitting a lot of balls on the range and on the course. I ended up deciding that the Bryson size was not for me, but I liked how they felt and decided to try different sizes.
I went back onto JumboMax's site and ordered 4 of each different size. This was a great way to test them, and I started regripping and testing in a similar fashion (Driver, 4 iron, 7 iron, wedge) until I settled on the one that would end up being my go to grip: STR8 Tech Non-Tapered, medium size, Tour Series style
After adjusting to the size (previous to the switch, I was using Lamkin UTx Cord Midsize Grip), I noticed that the soreness in my wrists started to get better and better until after an entire season passed and I no longer was suffering from overly sore wrists after I would play. I play a lot, 2-3 times a week and go to the range 2-3x, so my wrists would feel like Jello after a week of playing but the JumboMax grips really did help me. My shot shape is a draw, and switching to these grips didnt change that. I will say that for me, hitting knock down/punch/stingers "feels" incredible but that also could just be me liking the grips a lot.
They also don't wear out as much as the Cord Midsize grips that I was using previously, so that was a nice addition. The Cord grips were usually 2 sets a season on my main set because of how much I play, but the Jumbo's last much longer (my current set of Jumbos is going on 2 season since a full regrip and they are still going strong). I have a bit of a strong grip and my left thumb does dig a bit, so there is noticeable wear marks there but it doesn't affect me swinging the club where my other grips it would wear and then I would notice a bit more "movement" on my left thumb during the downswing.
I have a Pros and Cons list below in case nobody wanted to listen to my word salad above:
Pros:
-Feel great
-Look good
-Last a long time compared to my previous mid sized grips
-Less wrist soreness
-Very difficult to "overly" flip my wrists on the down swing
Cons:
- Price: these grips are amazing but they can be pricey unless you buy a full set at a time
- Installation: I have been installing grips on my own clubs for about 10 years now and these grips were the only ones were I screwed up a few by not pushing them all the way down. The end of the model grip I like is open so you can add Arccos to it, but if you don't use that then it leaves a gap so you have to make sure you are pushing the shaft allllll the way down. Its not a grip issue, more of a "me" problem but I will still put it under the Cons section just in case folks were curious
- Adjustment period: after switching from a normal sized grip to the larger jumbo sizes it felt very strange and I had to spend some time getting use to the feeling during the swing (especially during the down swing, they feel very different to me compared to regular grips). Once I adjusted, I fell in love but the first 3-4 range sessions were a bit off, so I would recommend messing with them on the range first so you don't completely hate yourself on the course
Final Thoughts:
Jumbo Max makes a great product and I will never look at another brand of grip after using these for so long. They have a great product that I feel is very much worth the price as they not only perform as a great grip but have helped me to be able to play more golf (not sure if my wife is ok with that, but I won't hold JumboMax accountable for that haha).
I will add some pictures later to this post of the wear marks on my clubs so folks know what I mean when I say "thumb wear", I am currently not at my house to start taking pics. I hope this helped, let me know if you have any other questions or want to know more and I will do my best to help out!
Hey Folks,
Sorry about not getting back on to post the pictures I was talking about but my wife currently has a bad bout of Covid so I have been helping her out with that. Here are the pictures I was talking about with the grip wear pattern:
54 Degree Wedge
:
60 Degree wedge:
Driver:
I know that this pattern is caused by my overly strong grip and my wear pattern is in the same spot on other brand grips as well. I feel like with the Jumbomax, the grip still feels great in my hands. The wedges are going on 2 seasons and the driver is about a season and a half (the shaft was from another Ping driver that I put on my G430 10K, so thats why it shows more wear for a new driver).

As I was perusing the recent thread, "What is your go to grip - irons / woods / hybrids?,"
I noticed several people that seem to have varying experiences with JumboMax grips. I thought I'd tag them here so they can share their thoughts an experiences with the grips to help others considering them.
It seemed like @Adamman84 & @VistaKing have been using them for multiple years as their main grips. Let us know your positive experience with them, if you'd like.
It seemed like @CB Lobo 4 Life has tested them out and decided on others and @RoverRick just purchased some and had a poor experience. I'd like to read some details about why you didn't enjoy them and switched.

I switched everything over to the Jumbo Max STR8 Tech Non-Tapered grips just about 2 seasons ago and I haven't looked back, have them in everything from driver down to my wedges.
My putter is currently also a Jumbo Max grip, its the 17 inch Jumbo Max grip that is on my LAB Mezz 1. Max (its a friends putter I am still borrowing atm, but I am going to be ordering an identical one to his in the next week or so because of how much I like this one)

Why should I be a tester?
My current job/profession is a Principle QA Analyst in the IT world (been working in this field for the last 12 years). I understand how to approach something from different directions when it comes to testing (example: testing from a developer side is different from user based testing) and really love what I do. I am also OBSESSED with golf, and have been for since I first started when I was 13 (I am now 39). I also understand what it takes in order to write up detailed testing documentation, for both use cases and technical cases, so that other users are able to read what I did and understand what is required. I take pride in being able to write up detailed documentation and hit timelines.
I play 2-3x a week, and try to go to the range at least 2x a week. I work remotely, so my lunch break is usually at the range or putting in my garage (30-50 putts a day). My current handicap is down to 0.6, trying to get my way back to scratch. I use to be a +3 in my HS/College years, enjoyed competitive golf but prefer just playing with my friends and bettering my own game.
I love equipment and I always look at trying the latest and the greatest. I like to tinker with my own setup all the time, trying different combinations of shafts/heads/etc. I have multiple sets that I play around with, swapping between them to try out new things. I would love to be considered as a tester for the mygolfspy group, I really do enjoy reading reviews on here from other folks and it would be an incredible opportunity to take my golf addiction to the next level!

I LOVE blade irons, I played blades pretty much my entire time playing golf until recently (switched over to the Ping i230's). I learned to play on a set of 80's Wilson blade irons that my dad bought at a flea market for like.....2 dollars a club or something like that back in the 90's. I moved up to a set of Ben Hogan Apex irons and then during my HS/College days I was playing the Ben Hogan Apex 99's (still have them).
I have the following blade irons that I will randomly throw in the bag here and there:
Ben Hogan Apex 99's (2-PW)
Ben Hogan Icons (4-PW)
Taylormade P7TW (3-PW)
Handmade Stix LB-1 (3-PW)
Miura MB101 (4-PW)
Love each of them and I still keep eyeing more up....its a real problem. That being said, the modern players irons feel so good when struck well and offer a bit more forgiveness over blades imo. I have been playing some amazing golf with the i230's, and miss hits are soooo much better....but the sound and feeling of a real MB are just fantastic and I love everything about it.
I don't want/need anymore MB's.....but I have a feeling I will end up with another set next year because I have a problem and I am a magpie when it comes to golf clubs....

Not on the Chopping Block:
Irons (Ping i230's)
Wedges (Fourteen RM-4 50, 54, 58)
Putter (Sub70 AL-5 Armlock)
Driving Iron (Ben Hogan UiHi 3 iron)
Driver (Ping 430 Max)
Chopping Block:
Fairway wood - Currently I have access to a Ping G425 LST 3 wood, a Ping G320 LST 3 wood and a Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond 5 wood set at 17 degrees with a 3 wood shaft (so basically a 4 wood). All 3 clubs are fantastic but my consistency with them is very all over the place. Some days I can blast them off the tee and off the deck without any issue, other days I can't hit any of them and have zero confidence in them.
Its not the club, its 100% me so I am going to be working with a swing coach to fix that but I also want to explore the possibility of something that gives me a bit more confidence. I hardly need a 3 wood off the deck (I think I hit it one time off the deck in over 150 rounds of play this current season), it ends up being an off the tee club but I tend to lean more towards my Driving Iron if the driver is getting spicy. The 4 wood idea seems to be the ticket, I just want to try a few other brand to see if they fit that slot better wit the new lines coming out next year.
I might end up not needing a fairway wood at all, so the idea of a mini driver is also on the table for that extra off the tee option...but we shall see

I don't need a new set of irons atm, I just got a set of i230's a few months ago (been loving them since they hit the bag) as well as a few other random sets to tinker with (I have a set of Ricky Cobra irons 5-PW and still haven't swung them yet). That being said, I am keeping my eye open on the following:
1) Ping Blueprint T irons (above reply post) to offset my i230's in the lower irons
2) Ping Blueprint (the current model, going to see if I can find a good deal on a decent condition used set)
3) Seeing what Hogan has to offer in their next release since they came back, would love to see a new blade come from Hogan (I love Hogan, have been a fan since HS and still have my 99 Apex irons and my Icons from 2 years ago)
4)Taylormade, if they bring out an updated version of the Tiger P7TW's (probably not but you never know with them)

This is a companion thread to @GolfSpy_APH’s 2024 equipment wish list, that can seen here:
For this thread, I want to focus on that set of irons that you would own if cost and ability weren’t obstacles. What is the one set past or present that you look at and say
For me, there are many worthy contenders. In preparation for this thread I gave consideration to the Fourteen TB-7’s and the murdered out Taylor Made P770’s but the set that I am going with is this:
As the staff’s self appointed blade enthusiast, these irons get me feeling all sorts of ways
What’s yours?
I have been playing a set of Ping i230's and scoring probably the best I have in years (just got down to a 1, slowly pushing to get back to scratch!) and I would LOVE to get the Blueprint T's in my lower irons to match the i230's (maybe 6-PW or 7-PW). These are beautiful!

Sub70 AL5 Armlock has been godly for my game, its unreal what this putter has done for me and my confidence (putting has always been the worst for me)

I recently picked up a Sub70 AL5 Armlock putter and it might the single best putter I have ever owned...the amount of putts I am making is unreal. I have so much confidence over the ball with this thing and everything about it just works so well. @GolfSub70your armlock putters are magical!
-
I def don't need them, but I would go in and get a full fitting and custom order a set of Titleist 620mb irons or a set of Ping Blueprint irons, both are on my list of future irons to pickup if I find a good deal on them

I currently have a set of the Hogan Icon irons and the Equalizer 2 wedges, both have been fantastic. I hope that when they do come out, that they have the correct pricing....they really need to stick close to what the other companies like Sub70 offer when it comes to price, performance and value. I will be keeping a close eye on Hogan, I really want them to succeed as I have been a Hogan fan since I started golfing in the late 90's.
-
Never been a "one brand only" guy, but my irons always seem to end up being Hogan irons. I am currently swinging my Ben Hogan Icon irons, Ping driver, 3 wood and utility iron, Itobori MTG wedges, and an Envroll putter.
-
I have the iCrossover (2 iron, 18 degrees) and its a deadly club. Great off the tee, easy enough to hit off the deck and hits a hell of wind shot when I need it.
-
I LOVE driving irons and have a few that I cycle in and out of my bag depending on the course and conditions. Currently I have the Ping iCrossover 2 (18 degrees) that has been a real weapon, but I also recently order a Titleist U505 1 iron (16 degrees) that I can swap in and out for my 3 wood whenever I don't need it (the 3 wood doesn't get a lot of use, but I still love having it).
I was never a big hybrid guy, but I do have a Ping G430 2 hybrid that I have been experimenting with and had some great numbers with so that has a chance at taking my 3 wood spot.
I both love and hate golf equipment because of stuff like this....always tinkering....haha
Anybody still playing older Ben Hogan irons?

I have a set of the Icon Ben Hogan irons, got them a few years ago and I will say that they feel just as good as my original Apex 99 irons. I take them out from time to time and love every second of it, they still make a fantastic product (just wish they were more popular).
I tend to keep an eye on Hogan and see what they come up with, would be curious to see if they bring out a new set of MB's soonish
