dru_
Sorry about the job. As a small biz owner myself, the idea that a CEO would release someone for speaking their mind about how the company was being run rubs me raw. That is exactly what a good business owner needs to hear, not the sunshine on the ads everything is great of a bootlicker. Hope everything works out. MarcKilgore
That totally blows, but there is something to be said for being good at politics. I've been in IT for 30 years and know one thing... The guys that know what they are doing and have a good work ethic will always have good jobs. IT unemployment is really low here in the twin cities... like 2%. There's a reason why those 2% are not employed. Kids with a couple basic certs and 3 years experience out of high school are getting $60-70k here. revkev
Oh man prayers going out for you. Rookie's advice is spot on - I have to interview people frequently in fact just went through a round of interviews for a new principal of our school. One guy totally shot himself in the foot by talking way, way too much. All I could think of was that I already work a 60 hour week. Turns out others in the room were thinking the same thing - what would this guy be like running a meeting popped into their heads. L.I. Rich
One point I'd like to make, as someone who interviews tech job candidates frequently (network, systems, help desk, security, etc.), is that I am not really interested in whether the candidate has all the correct answers per se because it's almost impossible to find the perfect candidate. I'm gauging their reaction to the questions, seeing if they understand why the topic is interesting or important, and how they handle themselves when they don't know the answer. Poise is key. No B.S. an absolute. One can handle a question to which they don't have an answer smoothly
In my bag: Ping G LS Tec 9* Tour 65 Stiff, Cobra F8 3-4 wood HZRDUS Yellow 6.0, Calloway 21* X Forged Utility iron (steel stiff), Ping G30 white dot 4-9 Stiff 110 gm KBS tours Scor 48,52,56,60 Wedges, Nike Method Core MC3

HighFade
I too have interviewed tech guys. It's not tough to find guys who can do the work. The hard part is getting someone who can speak coherently with clients. But when you're nervous, it takes a real effort not to babble. That's why I liked "short, sweet, and confident" Another I found was "Hire character, teach skill" There is no spoon. L.I. Rich
I've always enjoyed interviewing. I guess trying to win new business and sell projects all the time makes going on a job interview seem similar to what I do anyway. They can be fun, and one way to keep your confidence up is to remember that you're also interviewing them. You may want the search over and done with, but you also want to go to the right place. They have to prove themselves to you as well!
In my bag: Ping G LS Tec 9* Tour 65 Stiff, Cobra F8 3-4 wood HZRDUS Yellow 6.0, Calloway 21* X Forged Utility iron (steel stiff), Ping G30 white dot 4-9 Stiff 110 gm KBS tours Scor 48,52,56,60 Wedges, Nike Method Core MC3

Jmikecpa
Best of luck with the new position. As someone that has the ability to fire people on the spot I can honestly say never have done it nor will I ever do it. I prefer to hear the truth from the people that work for my company as they have a different view than I do and often times it is refreshing to hear their point of view. I too have always enjoyed interviewing until this week......two straight days with the Nevada Gaming Commission and I am pretty sure an elective colonoscopy would have been more enjoyable. Every spring season I have to interview drivers for the upcoming season and I have developed an eye for B.S. trust me. My basic turn off is when the candidate says " oh I know everything about the towing and trucking business" That is a certain turn off for me and I will not hire. I have been around trucks and wreckers most of my life and I certainly don't know it all I learn something every day.My best hire ever was a driver that could drive a truck had drove for 25 years but had never operated a wrecker or rollback but was willing to learn and had common practical since to work by his self and had good work ethics and if he got in a jam he would pick up the phone and call for help.
