IMHO, Jack is still "The King" and we'll see if Tiger can win a major when he's 46! What makes you old school or new school? I mean, besides age... Oh, and same equipment, in their prime, who's better: Jack or Tiger? Can I be middle school? As a child of the 80's I have an appreciation for the "old school" and while I'm getting to be a cranky old man telling the kids to turn down that racket there are some "new school" things I'm a fan of. Kor.A.Door
I would say Both, with a lean toward new, Jack and Tiger same equipment in their prime, Jack by a landslide, good grief, look what he did with all the old equipment in his prime. It's not even close. Lefties are always in their Right Mind
Kenny B
I look more like Old School and certainly feel more like Old School. Definitely New School with the hybrid. Jack can keep his 1 iron. In their primes, Jack has my vote. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
whiskey golf
For golf equipment, I'm mostly new school except for my putter. I think it would be cool to have some old school gear though to use every so often. As for myself, I'm more of an old man inside a college student's body. On an unrelated note, I had to laugh at the "new school" caption that said 6% body fat. All the good golfers that I've seen around here are super skinny and look like they have never touched a weight in their life, yet they can really hit the ball. There's nothing bad about being that skinny, it's just a funny observation to me.
revkev
Age wise I'm old school all the way but I truly am a hybrid - I've been approached numerous times by members of the Hickory Shaft society - really? For kicks I'd do it but for real, all the time? I'm not going out on the field with a leather football helmet and I'm not going out on the course without my SLDR and I loved my old persimmon drivers - loved my '64 Chevy pick up too but that ain't happening. Tiger vs. Jack - brutally hard call but Tiger had Jack's record posted to his forehead as a kid so that was and is his goal until he surpasses it Jack is king - hey Tiger set the bar, he has to live with it. BTW no one else comes close during the time that I've been watching golf although on a given week I've seen some great achievements and there have been some very nice understudies - it's weird that the early 80's to late 90's brought us very little or some might even say nothing in regards to great players - I think it's because the best players, the truly great players of that era were playing in Europe and sports TV hadn't gone global yet - we are getting a glimpse of it through Bernhard's dominance on the champions tour - remember he was the third best player in Europe behind Seve and Nick Faldo. Like I have in baseball I'm gravitating to the new stats in golf - I do think they are a far better way of measuring greatness than the old way and once I figure out how to collect the data for my game (without undo damage to pace of pay or the pocket book) I'm jumping in for my own game. You might want to give Game Golf a tryout. I've not used mine yet, but plan to start using it this spring. It sounded like they had some software glitches to work out when it was first introduced, but it looks like they've gotten those issues fixed and they've got most of the local courses I play available now. revkev
I tell you what I love Jack but there was nothing like that roll that Tiger was on there for a while. Jack did it in majors but not every week like Tiger - I mean it seemed like he might win every tournament that he entered for a time. Jack always was looking to prep his game for the majors. I do wonder, if Tiger had focused more on prepping his game for the majors instead of playing "full out" for many years, if he would have avoided some of the physical/health issues he's had to deal with. Did he play too hard, for some less important victories? revkev
You know I used to second guess guys all the time. Jack was driven and he knew what worked for Jack. I think Tiger knows what works for Tiger so the question is - if he did it differently would he have won as much. Even if he wins nothing else he's had one of the three greatest careers ever, I think most people would place him second and you could argue first - not bad. I used to say stuff about Phil but Phil couldn't lay up or not hit driver on 18 or not do all that other crazy stuff and still be Phil - he did it his way - I guess it worked out okay for him. Kor.A.Door
Jack also had many more top notch rivals in his prime, Tiger had basically one. apply this to today's golf, there are 15-20 guys that could potentially win any given tournament, including majors, I don't think we will see one guy dominate like Jack or Tiger did, at least not for a long time.
