Sluggo42
Ive been fighting an extreme case of tennis elbow for about a year and a half now, and after 3 cortisone shots and a daily dose of Celebrex, my Dr and i decided to end the ordeal with a chop chop job. Ive gotten to where I can't really complete a swing anymore without 3 vicoden, and well, then i fall over. But that doesn't hurt either. So anyways, 6-8 weeks, then rehab for a few months. But my doc is a golfer and he has promised a pain free elbow. Fortunately I got to get half a dozen games in with the new Z-Star, and i will play one more game next week regardless of the pain. Too bad, as i was playing well. Hopefully, it will be like riding a bike... fozcycle
Sorry for your injury Sluggo....I had a similar injury back in the day. I would schedule a raquetball court within a couple hours of getting the cortizone injection....really helped my game. Eventually, after a year, they did surgery on my right elbow.....they cleaned out all the tiny bone spurs, then scraped the cartilege off the joint and let it grow back. That was 35 years ago! So I guess the surgery worked! Sometimes you just have to do it. Get it done, rehab, get back to golf healthy! Sluggo42
This coming Friday will be 4 weeks post surgery, and I am happy to report that things are moving along swimmingly. The funny colors from the hideous bruising are all gone, the "gash" is all sealed up. I have regained full motion. And the swelling is almost gone. I am putting already, and taking real easy swings as my "therapy". I can tell I will need the full 8 weeks for the tendon to fully adhere to the bone, but so far the results are great. The best part is that the never ending "ache" is GONE. I mean when I'm at rest, I have 0 pain. Nada! Nothing! So anyways, I am so itching to play I can hardly stand it. Sluggo42
I went in for my checkup this morning and got an "A" on my report card! My home brewed home therapy has been effective at combatting the atrophy that plagues "elderly" patients. I'm only 59 doc! Bad news: Do not hit any balls with a full swing!!!! Do not play the drums! It takes 8-10 weeks for the tendon to fully reattach to the bone, and any "shock" , like taking a divot could rip up the partial healing. So, wait I must. I can putt and short chip for now, and work with light weights, and I mean light. But, in another month, and ok a half, I can start playing again. Kenny B
Good news! Just don't rush it. Not worth it. A few years ago I had a friend that cracked his ribs and couldn't take full swings for quite awhile. He has never been a great golfer, but just loves to be out playing. After a couple of months chipping and putting, he became quite good at up-and -downs and a much better player; more do than any other practicing would have done in the same timeframe. So you got that going for you... which is nice! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
