BigtazzGolf
So I've gotten the bug to try these fancy beers. As a loyal Bud Light man it isn't easy I guess to branch out. Anyone have suggestions on a craft beer that will be good to ease into? Currently on my list to try, 1. Yuengling light 2. River Horse Summer Blonde 3. Full Sail Session Lager 4. null
Riverhorse makes some good stuff, I live about 15 minutes from them. Start by experimenting with lagers and ales and then work your way to session ales and ipas. Diving right into ipas might turn you off as the hoppyness is definitely an acquired taste. I used to only drink light beers and hated ipas but I got into some white ales and session ipas and now I actually really like ipas.
Philly Golf Guy
Agree with above and also have a few pale ales. Stone Pale Ale is a good one to give a run. They're a tad smoother than IPA's but have more flavor and are stouter than light beer or lager. null
There's also a ton of articles all over the internet about getting into craft beer (such as this one http://www.artofmanliness.com/2010/04/29/a-beginners-guide-to-craft-beer/) There's an app called untapped that allows you to keep track of and rate the beers you've tried so you can know which beers to have again and which ones to avoid. Try to find some places by you that have good selections and offer flights (4 or 5 samples) so you can try and compare multiple new beers in one sitting without having to buy a full beer without knowing if you're going to like it

Kenny B
I'm not into IPAs; too hoppy for me. I've moved to Irish Stout (not Guinness) and porters. Lots of craft ales/beers here in the Northwest. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Peaksy68
Don't forget to have some food with hoppier styles. Salami or jerky goes great with a lot of IPAs. There's a reason English Ale goes perfectly with a Ploughman's Lunch, everything works off each other. Most American IPAs I've seen have the IBU listed on the label, which gives a good indication of how bitter and hoppy it is. Lower is less hoppy. Craft beer seems to be much more affordable in the US than here in Aus. I tried about 10 different breweries beers while on holiday in Hawaii, and they were about the same price as bulk commercial crap beer at home, despite Hawaii being expensive. 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy

PlaidJacket
I'm not much of a drinker but I like some of the darker types. Porters, stouts, etc. I also used to like a mild hop but it's been over done IMHO where now some seem to be made from only hops. Might as well drink battery acid. LOL Some of the newer "craft" beers can be pretty good sometimes but many more are just crap. Again... IMO. Most all the bars and restaurants in town have it on draft. Lucky me!! http://www.ironhorsebrewery.com/thebeer/irish-death/ But I still prefer McMenamin's Nitro Irish Stout; their own brew for their pubs. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

DaveP043
My personal favorite is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Its pretty low on the hoppy bitterness side, so it could be a nice introduction to pale ales and IPAs. Many (or most, probably) of the West Coast pale ales and IPAs are made with a hop variety grown in the Pacific Northwest (Cascade hops) that gives them a very characteristic citrus effect. An IPA (India Pale Ale) is typically brewed to have more alcohol and more hops than a traditional pale ale. The story I've read is that both alcohol and hops act as preservatives, which was necessary if the beer was to survive the long voyage to India from England. It seems to me that the trend recently is to put more and more hops into IPAs, and I think it is often overdone. The Magic Hat #9 is an interesting beer, a little fruity due to the addition of apricot extract. I'm something of a purist, I don't like fruit in my beer. An interesting ale that used to come out in the fall, but is available year round in lots of places, is Dead Guy Ale from Rogue Brewing in Oregon. Its a little richer and less hoppy than many West Coase ales, might be something you'd like to try. If you collect bottles, look for the 22-ounce bottle with the glow-in-the-dark skeleton silk-screened onto the bottle. I used to drink IPAs a long time ago, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was always a favorite. I have slowly grown out of those beers, probably from my 30+ trips to Russia, where the beer is a little heavier. I like Dead Guy Ale. Another one out west is the Big Sky Brewing Co. in Montana, I got started on the darker ales with Moose Drool, a brown ale that is not too heavy that goes OK with food. http://bigskybrew.com/beer/ “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
