chippingwithchris
Great topic, three clubs come to mind… 1) Titleist 680 iron set, even though these were blades and I couldn’t hit them consistently they always felt and looked pure. 2) Scotty Cameron Newport putter, first Scotty and club I competed with during junior college golf. 3) Scotty cameron futura, belly length putter. Just looked and felt good to play. revkev 1 Quote WITB Titleist TS3 9.5 HZRDUS Smoke Black 75g Titleist TS2 15 Diamana LTD S+ Blue 70g P790 2i HZRDUS 100g P7MC 3-P Project X 6.0 (lie -2) Vokey Wedge 52, 58 (lie -2) Scotty Cameron CA Monterey
8ironflush
I had a PXG Mustang Putter - 1st Gen - jet black. It was the closest thing to automatic that I've ever gamed. I took it on a trip to the Sea Island Resort where it, along with my entire bag, was stolen by one of the attendants/valets. Sea Island replaced the putter, but it didn't have the same magic. I'm still bitter. revkev
Danny Markham
Mine has gotta be the first Scotty I purchased, Pro Platinum Laguna. I started collecting putters a few years later and started using a SC Studio Stainless and let a junior I took under my wing use my Laguna it. He played great with it and then had all of his club stolen out of his car about a year or 2 later. I think I was more heart broken than him. revkev
MacMan
Jereez, too may to mention far touch tinkering over the years! For me Macgregor VIP V-foil 1025cm Irons, nothing since has come close! james512@aol.com
I built a Golfsmith 3 wood around 1990. It was a Kevlar head with a steel shaft that was short by today's standards. I actually don't know what happened to the club. I suspect it left along with my Ping Eye 2 irons when I was burglarized around 2000. I was fairly new to golf so I thought it was normal to hit it 270 and straight off the tee all day. I play the same course using modern drivers and balls but it is rare to have drives that are consistently as long or straight as that 3 wood produced. Beakbryce
Palmer Precision wood wood set. So if one club, the driver, loved that thing. Fiberglass shafts were just coming out and I let a friend talk me into putting them in the woods. Went from a push draw that was long and reliable to...%$#@**& sold them for more than I paid for them because of the shafts but still, wish I had had that club until I got the original Bertha. Still have that Bertha. Still dead straight but have to move up a tee. Think it's the shaft. Wonder if I should put a more modern shaft in there. So much fun. Shawn M
I gave my son my Cobra Trusty Rusty tri-bounce gap wedge. I had a lot of confidence with that wedge and threw a lot of darts to the pin. I could probably borrow it out of his bag...but that might be bad form. Wow here's a man after my own heart - I had that combo of the 975D and Eye 2's - mine weren't copper though - played a ton of good golf with them. I added a tight lies and Eye 2 5 wood (real wood) to round out the set - putter's changed quicker than you can say Jack Robinson so not enough space to record those here nor can I remember all of them. Interestingly I have only gamed two putters in the last 16 years - while I've had tons of iron sets and drivers, how things change. BostonSal
If I had sold my 1997 Spalding Top Flite Titanium Intimidator 400 fairway woods, I'd have never been able to put them back in the bag where they are now. The 9-wood, stamped as 29°, can take one all the way down to a modern, GI model 8-iron! The latter are down to about 33° now, right? I've also got the 7 at 25°, the 5 at 21°, and the 3 at 16°. The 3 can be replaced by something more modern for maximum distance from the Hail Mary fairway club. The 5, 7, and 9, however, are still money a quarter century later. I'm not even thinking of replacing them. I'm screwed if a shaft breaks, however, because the Fenwick shafts are a non-standard diameter tip and no longer available.
