Popular Post PMookie
My father coached HS basketball for 40 years, and I grew-up in the gym with him. I played hoops in college, and semi-professionally after college. I coached HS hoops for years, and had opportunities to coach in college as well. Having kids, and with the lack of pay teaching and coaching provides, I gave up my passion years ago to be able to provide for the family. My oldest played one year, 4th grade, but ultimately decided it wasn’t for him. My next child fell in love with gymnastics, and wants to be a collegiate gymnast. So, my youngest has been trying to find her “thing” so she decided to try hoops this year. Well, I’ve known the Principal at her school for over 20 years... I was picking-up my daughter from school one day, and the Principal came to the car and said, “Coach, we need a coach for your daughter’s 4th grade team! I need you!” Well, I travel for work and didn’t think I could do it, but the school worked around my schedule, so I had no excuse. I was the girl’s 4th grade coach! I played and coached at much higher levels. I had NO idea how to coach at this level! Well, fundamentals it was! Every day, work on the little things, give them a solid base. When trying to figure out an offense, and I have NO one who can even dribble, I knew it was gonna be tough... Well, we played our first game last night, and we lost 18-3. Our one made basket was in the OTHER team’s goal (dead serious). 3 points on free throws! Figuring out how to get 12 girls somewhat equal playing time in 6 min quarters was my biggest worry! I can say three things about last night. One. I learned a LOT. Two. It was actually FUN! Three. I’m blessed to have this special time with my 9 year old! We may not win a game, but if these girls can learn the game a bit, have some fun, and think about playing again next year, I’ll have done my job! In the pic, my daughter is #54 on the left. edingc
I did one year of head coaching in 12/13-year-old Little League baseball after my freshman year of college, and it was a great learning experience for me as well as my players. I think I learned just as much from them as they might have learned from me. Enjoy! Sounds like a great way to spend time with your daughter. sirchunksalot, GolfSpy_SHARK, JohnSmalls and 2 others 4 1 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. GolfSpy_SHARK
Something special about a good coach. My father coached track for 30 years and was amazing to see what he accomplished and how he inspired kids. Hope to do the same some day. 00sportsman
I gave up coaching high school basketball when my daughter was in 3rd grade so I could coach her instead. Never regretted it for a moment. We had a great time and made memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy every minute, because that was just a couple of years ago, and now she's 33!! sirchunksalot, edingc and PMookie 1 2 Quote I always try to remember that I'm not good enough to get mad!
