Naming shots

Recommended Posts

I have names for certain golf shots as a way to mentally trigger a swing feeling or visualization. For example, a “buzzsaw” is a wedge shot that requires more acceleration than normal, like in thick rough (I visualize the grooves cutting the bottom of the ball like a saw blade). Or if I need to hit a giant slice, I think “hair salon” (because it’s a SuperCut). Does anyone else do this? What do you call your shots?

Basically, I have three. Up, up and away. That is for a drive that I want to go high to cut a corner and go over trees (Tee up higher and swing up). The other two are nice and oh crap. 🤣

I have a couple, one is a "dammit", then there's the "not again!", and the tried and true "what the hell?!"...  I have other "names" for shots but those are best left imagined rather than expressed.

Some of these sound like the names of the shots that I visualize my opponents hitting.

... I always found it interesting that with all the vile words out there the very worst thing a golfer can say ... is their own name. Blocking a drive on 18 OB and onto the range calls for a What a POS!?!?! or F**K ME!?!? But no ... just a disgusted utterance of your own name. 🤬
