Leonvdwesthuizen
@Michael.Sandoval33 I pitted the Prototype against a Taylormade Soft Response and I was amazed at how similar the balls performed. I did a side-by-side comparison with both balls. I did find that the Titleist Prototype was a bit softer, flew a bit straighter and had a bit less spin than the TM Soft Response. The feeling off the putter was very similar, but in-hand feeling the Prototype felt softer. But I am eagerly awaiting to see which model it was that we tested as I never played Titleist balls and am willing to switch due to this experience! J7Hawkins
I just realized I still have 2 of these balls! I’m going to wait and buy the new AVX when I find them just to compare them side to side to see if there were any minor changes between the test ball (which was AVX) and what became the production ball. That's awesome. Yeah I think we don't know if the test ball was basically what they're releasing as the new AVX, or something else along the development path. The cover seemed super glossy to me and half the people mentioned how it damaged easily, and that is actually something you can compare visually, so that will be neat to hear about. The trend was "TEST" ball VS everything else. Every ball besides the "TEST" ball flew at a normal height and with a 5-15 yard fade. The "TEST" ball flew noticeably lower and favored a 0-5 yard fade. The lower launch and straighter flight put it at the top of the average distance list below. TEST: This was also the straitest. New Titleist AVX released, and it closely matches my on course findings. Also, I am done with on course testing so I am now able to chop one in half as my final post in this thread. Thanks to the guys at MyGolfSpy for this opportunity to test. jbern
Sad news - I lost the last two of my TEST balls yesterday. One I thought I hit in the fairway (blind tee shot) and we just could not find it. I have a feeling it was plugged underground somewhere. The fairways were very soft in some areas. I was disappointed because I had played 4 rounds with that ball and the durability of the ball was outstanding. The last TEST ball was lost in a marsh hazard area on the toughest par 5 on the course. With the 2nd ball, I did experience a durability issue. After I lost the first one plugged, I went back to the tee box and hit a drive and then an 8 iron. I wish I would've taken a photo, but the ball was borderline because of the cover scuff marks from those two shots. I did get through 3 more holes before loosing it and it performed fine. If I was playing a tournament I probably would've gotten a new ball out. JackBurtonsPorkchopExpress
So, I pulled out my last test ball this morning. I was playing a Srixon XV and my distance just wasn't great with it. Lost the Srixon, and I pulled out the test ball. I thought the distance was much more consistent to what I'm used to. I'm guessing the weather had something to do with it (Mid-Upper 50s, firm vs soft ball).
