AndrewS7K
Hey folk, bought a new set of irons recently after using my previous ones for 12 years! Is it worth putting iron head covers on? I don't see many people using them... wanna try and keep em from being scuffed up! If so what are the best ones that don't always fall off etc? TIA! GolfSpy_BNG
This topic will be met with lots of criticism as it can be a hot topic for some people. As for myself, I use them. I’m a big club ho’ and anything that can keep resale up is a win for me. I use the simple neoprene ones with the numbers on them. The ones with clear bottoms always come apart too quickly. It’s also a helpful deterrent should some jerk be trying to steal them lol. It has actually become part of my pre shot routine. Pull my club, take off the cover, 1 or 2 practice swings behind the ball while envisioning the shot I wanna hit, hit, clean the club face, put cover back on, and put club away. miuraman, tony@CIC, SliceBoss and 4 others 7 Quote What is in my Ghost MGS anyday Maverick or Jones MyGolfSpy bag Driver: GT2 with an Aretera Alpha One Blue 55/4 shaft @ 44.75” or GD VF 5s @45” Fairway: F85 3 wood with a XPhplexx Agera X @ 42.5” F85 5 wood with a UST Elements Chrome 7F5 @ 41.5" TSR2 7 wood shaft TBD Driving Iron: Rapture 2-Iron Irons: Apex TiFusion 4-PW 2* flat with PX Hazrdus Gen4 Silver 75s Wedges: JP Camber 48 & 55 shaft TBD Putter: 2024 Phantom 5.5 @ 34”

I have used head covers since the day I started playing golf. I was taught at a young age that we take care of our things, regardless of cost or usage or whatever. If we own it, we take care of it. Another reason I'll park at the farthest away spot at Costco, even in a blizzard (no one's dinging my doors). I've transitioned away from the bulkier Castle Bay covers to the neoprene versions from Amazon. They work just fine, and in my routine I just put them in my pocket since they're thin enough to do so. That way I don't lose them the way my dad loses his when he tosses his Castle Bay covers into the cart basket and they fall through the gaps. You may get grief from those less inclined to take care of their stuff (I bet their cars are full of dings), but I just let it roll down my back. I had a set of Ping G15's I bought new in 2008 and traded in back in 2020. They looked better than other used clubs I saw that were only a couple years old. How do people play with clubs that beat up?! NM01
Nicks and dings on forged irons are like a badge of honor. Irons are used hit a round ball off a bigger round ball. They are the work horse of the bag. They are going to get scratched and nicked at some point. they are also a depreciating asset, keeping them pristine adds very value to them silver & black and barney_bogey

Obviously to each their own and this topic has been beaten to death over and over again, but for my money I’ll use them and don’t care what anyone else thinks. bellken
I have some old neoprene Club Glove iron covers. They do reduce bag chatter, and, can protect the finish of your irons. They aren't the most durable, but, I mostly use them, when, my clubs are in transit. tony@CIC

Sharp and functional! I decided to start using them when I bought the forged ZX5's. Unlike PING's indestructotanium, I knew these would get marked up badly without protection. Bag chattered, scuffed up irons are sinful . These are made by Craftsman Golf and they work very well and have held up for over 3 years. tony@CIC and GaDawg 2 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Official Review)
CrazyGolfNut
I started using iron head covers and told my wife I needed the big numbers on the covers so I don't grab the wrong club. The real reason is they hide the new irons that I bought. fixyurdivot
I've come up with a new iron head cover marketing slogan... "if you're going to have forged, do so with protection". SliceBoss
I use them because as a high-handicapper, I know my clubs will have more resale value as I lower my index and upgrade what I am playing. This is one part of the game I truly don't understand the fuss, but man, people's opinion on this can be brutal. Welp... to each their own. No iron glove, no iron love. RangerGrey
Absolutely as I just love it when I hit a shot and put my iron cover back on and my playing partners want to take another look at what I just hit. Main reason is it protects them from getting all marked up as I have seen some new irons look like they were 5 years old Quote Driver: GT2 9* w/ Graphite Design Tour AD-XC 5 3W : GT 2 13.5* W/ Graphite Design Tour AD-VF 5 5W Qi10 w/ NX Speeder TCS 5 4H: Qi10 w/ NX Speeder TCS 5 5 thru PW : APEX Ai300 5-PW w/ AXIOM 75 shafts (ordered) Wedges: RTX 6 Full face 48*, 54* w/ i95 SteelFiber shafts Puter: GREEN DF3 w/Black 34" w/ BGT Stability ONE w/Press II 3 grip Bag: FOLDS of HONOR
kejoal11
I have used iron covers since I started playing. Like others I like to keep my clubs looking good. JDHolmes
Yes, I use them, always. They keep the iron heads looking good, no bag chatter, no gouges on the backs, sole from slamming clubs into bag. Keeps noise to a minimum from clubs clacking together. And, it annoys some folks. My head cover have $ signs on them. When asked why, i just tell them cause these are the tools to take yoir money. kejoal11

I would never consider using iron covers, don't use the covers that came with my putters, and once I take them off, I don't replace my driver and fairway wood covers until the end of the round. Scratches don't bother me in the least, but I have no problem with people choosing to protect the cosmetics of their clubs. To each his/her own, right?
