funkyjudge
The Newton 4-Dot shaft is an absolutely fantastic match for me in the new Paradym AI Smoke Triple Diamond driver head that I just got last week! I played yesterday in cool temperatures with strong winds and rain on our last three holes, and got fantastic results, hitting 11 of 13 fairways where I hit the driver (with no warning up because the course has no range). My two missed fairways were still very playable drives — first one was a short (288 yd) par 4 directly into the wind, where I was just trying to leave myself within a short partial wedge shot of the green, but I drove the ball pin-high and just left of the green. From there, I chipped to within 2’ for an easy tap-in birdie. My second missed fairway was on hole #17, a medium-length par 5 hole with a fairway that slopes right-to-left, more severely the longer you drive the ball. My tee shot on this hole hit in the left-center of the fairway, and rolled about 20-25’ into the left rough. Not only were my drives very predictable with this shaft/head combination, they were also quite long, even those drives that I hit into the 15-25 MPH winds. I AVERAGED 225+ yards into the wind, with a longest drive of about 245. Downwind, I was consistently hitting my drives 275 yards (or more). The biggest surprise was on that short par 4 where I drove the ball pin-high! The only issue is I need to change the grip to midsized. The fitter put a standard sized on by accident. @Josh Parker agree on the woods shafts. I’d love one for my 3 wood. I’m hitting it ok with the steadfast, but when I miss it’s a left hook. Had two of those shots yesterday but recovered with pars so I was lucky. This is one of those shots where my 3 wood went left. Recovered with a 2 putt par, I should have birdied it because I was 10 feet out with a straight putt. Hi, Cnosil, I meant to ask you how are you? Your health issue sounded scary. My toe is coming along very nicely. One more week in the boot. The birdie attempt stopped within an inch from the hole An update: The fitter is changing the grip to midsize. Will play on Wednesday! Hopefully get some more bombs. Javs
Ok, I put the Newton 5 dot shaft in play today. I put it into my Callaway Paradym TD 8 degree head. Set it to neutral and hit 5 balls on the range. Then off to play. It was 78 degrees today with winds at 15 to 25 mph. However, this shaft head combo was awesome! I hit 6 drives over 330. Two into the wind. The ball just jumped off the club. It did fly relatively high, but it was very penetrating. A couple drives I purposely teed it low and it came off like an airplane climbing at take off. This is a great shaft. I may switch it over to the Callaway AI Smoke TD at 9 degrees to see if I get the same results. However, I think it is best served in the 8 degree setting which I could switch the other head down a degree. Just a nice feeling shaft and you can really go after it without fear. I was also able to work the ball, but the main ball flight was pretty straight. William P, Preeway, funkyjudge and 4 others 5 2 Quote Play like a champion today!
