Will Changing from Maxfli Tour S to the Tour or Tour X Ball Help Me?

I would say that too high is definitely a thing....it's very easy to get there here in North Texas some months.  Playing anything but a Tiger stinger many months of the year can be considered "too" high.  If you hit a driver at an 18° launch angle and an apex of 125-150' into a 25mph headwind, it's losing a ton of distance.  If it's a crosswind, it's going right or left hard, and if you're prone to a hook or a slice, and the wind is going the same way, enjoy your re-tee.  It's worse out in West Texas, where the wind blows like that almost all year long.

... I did say  "That said, playing in constant windy conditions in some parts of the country or excessive spin from hitting down with drivers can produce a combination of too high/too much spin."

...My first real experience with a crazy high trajectory was playing in Orlando in the early 90's with a Mini Tour player that had PGA aspirations. I was lucky enough to join him for a practice round. On a par 5 I hit a big drive from 2 tees in front of him so we both had about the same distance to the green. 220 to a green protected by a stand of trees that produced basically a right angle from the fairway past the trees to the green. I laid up with a 3 hybrid hitting it right around 220 and had a long pitch. This kid hit his 4 iron higher than anyone I had ever played with clearing the trees with ease and his ball mark was just on the back fringe. My hybrid would not have cleared those trees.

... I said that was an amazing shot and asked did he hit it much higher on purpose. He responded that was his normal 4 iron trajectory and you can't hit the ball too high ... unless it is windy.

... This is a great thread for demonstrating how any reviews or OEM recommendations are just starting points. I am guessing "on paper" many should fit into a specific version of the Tour series, but through personal experience they find a different ball works better for their game. No surprise as someone swinging a driver 90mph may produce more or less spin, more or less sidespin, a higher or lower launch and depending on where you play more distance from carry OR more distance from roll.

... The "S" ball didn't spin enough for me in the desert with hard, fast greens. Some days I can't even find my ball mark. I played the Tour for several years and when the 2023 X was released I tried a dozen of those and found they worked better for my game. I am of the opinion that it is very difficult to hit the ball "too high" and many that think they are doing just that should go to a Tour event and see just how high elite players hit their shots. That said, playing in constant windy conditions in some parts of the country or excessive spin from hitting down with drivers can produce a combination of too high/too much spin.

... These threads are awesome for helping others find a starting point. Because one golfers Maxfli X is another golfers Maxfli S.

I wish my ball flight was "too high" haha. I'd love to hit it flush enough, consistently enough to have this be an issue that I worry about.

I know the title asks for Maxfli but why limit yourself to 1 brand?

Find a price point your happy with spending on 1 dozen and buy a few different brand/types of balls. Find 1-3 that perform the way you want them and just wait for a sale to happen on those 3 to get stock.

Anyone looking to trade for some Tour X for a trial let me know. I've got about 24 of the X I don't want, they just spin too much for me.

Picking up a pack of the Tour S to see if that helps me lower spin on my Driver for the upcoming WB/BB shaft test...

I also question when amateurs say they hit the ball too high.  Having watched pros and elite golfers I am amazed how high they hit the ball.   Outside of wind, I’d bet that most people hit the ball too low…I know I do most of the time.

I wish this was something I had to think about.  I'm stoked to see my shots going between 80-90ft in the air because it's such an improvement.

“Hit the ball too high” Amateur here, specifically off the tee. I’ve had random pairings say they’ve never seen anything like my 200 yard up, 50 yard distance tee shot. Almost always, I’m tee’d too high and too far back in my stance which results in some comically upward AoAs.

This isn’t anything that a golf ball alone will fix, but there are those of us who indeed hit the ball too high by any objective measure. Have pity on us! 😂

So have you come to any conclusions? Or still testing?

I ordered a dozen of the Maxfli Tour and Tour X.  I’ve played a few rounds with the Tour balls.   In general they felt the same which makes sense given their compressions are about one off from one another.  I also got the impression that I hit them a little higher.

I decided to delay further testing the two as started my the MGS Titleist long game review and I didn’t want to enter a ball change and have that influence the numbers.  So, for now, I’ll be sticking with the Tour S.

I’ll be putting the Tour X in play once done with my Titleist review.
