    How'd you play?

What a great day for golf!! Well, except for the 4.5 hour round because it was the Men's Club Opening 2-person scramble tournament in front of us. The sun was out and after a 1.5 hour frost delay, it warmed up to 63º by the time we finished. For once I played a round and didn't feel chilled. Made 3 bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at 40. Had one bogey and one birdie on the back nine to shoot an EVEN par 35 and a total of 75. Shot my age again! I felt pretty good about today's score because the pins were tucked in some tough spots for the tournament. It was my best ball striking round, maybe ever!! Hit 12 GIR but only 9 fairways, which is low for me. However, the fairways missed were only just off and lies were decent. My only problem was that while I was on the greens in regulation, I had very long putts; except for the lone birdie...just not really makable.

  2. I missed the morning chat. Getting on here late because it was 53* and sunny. So guess where I was. Nothing like a tap in bird on hole number 1. Sorry you Northern guys. I had to do it.

How can there be negativity when bacon is involved? I'll never get some people, they must be sausage over bacon guys. Hopefully you can get it sorted out.

  4. Good, sunny Sunday morning all! Going to a fireman’s pancake breakfast this morning with the family and in-laws. After that heading to a small children’s museum the boys like to go to and then will probably take them for lunch before heading back home. Weather is *supposed* to take a turn for the better today!

  5. Morn all. Late start. Took a walk by the neighbors. Big news, though, just booked a small getaway for Easter week. Best of all, I just checked out the nearby golf course, and it looks beautiful—both the 9-hole and the 18-hole! Oh, we’re just gonna have to make some reservations for that one.

  6. A very good morning to you all! Skating party today, final round of Valspar, max in P15 to start Jeda. Going to be a busy day! However a lot of fun and little Ivan after taking some of his first steps is also going on the ice for his first time!

  7. Good morning everyone! I'm just getting settled in with a cup of coffee and the dogs. It takes a minute for them to get perfectly comfortable. It's a cool 26° outside, so today will be all about grocery shopping. I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

  8. Morning Folks Woke up a little stiff and sore from the DH yesterday. Get some stretches in to loosen up, Coffee and if the wife wakes up shaving the in-laws dog we are watching as she is matted up pretty good. She's a westy and old. I'll be loading up the golf gear and heading to the course. Hopefully the rain holds off. I will be brining the rain gear regardless. have great day

  9. Morning all. Recovery going along steadily (see "Snipped" thread for full explanation), but not quite up to a 3-hour car ride to my in-laws with the family, so staying home to work (I work Sun-Thur), watch some Valspar & Tourney, and put some ice on the Fellas. Good times. Last few days here have been truly stunning (mid-60s, sunny, breezy), but today's another gray, rainy day - so not so terrible being stuck inside today If you're playing, I envy you. If you're having a day similar to mine, come find me in the forum!

  11. Good morning from a blustery 23F/-5C WNY morning, forecast no longer has 30's for highs after today's forecast 31F and later in the week high is supposed to reach 55F/13C, now we need to get the kites out for all this wind, mpg yesterday on the way to Rochester was 4 higher than usual traveling with the wind, coming back wasn't as good and snow showers kept reducing visibility. Halfway back roads became snow covered where trees and such were not blocking the blowing snow and drifts were growing into the driving lanes and it was cool after dark driving into Star Wars hyperspace. Hot chocolate in the mug for the "mountain chalet" wintery morning and porridge is next. Cable guy coming tomorrow for a service not done since before pandemic and chance to reduce the accumulation in my basement office. Might be best to not open the boxes before dumping them in the trash bin. Hope golf has a significant part of your day!

GM, 49* and drizzling this morning. Coffee, cereal and Sports Page to start the day. Lots of upsets in NCAA Tournament which is always fun and highlights of WBC. I’m sure SWMBO will want to go to gym so that’s the morning set.

  16. I was a Mizuno dealer/fitter for more than 30 years, including during the T-Zoid days, and I can assure you that the SR shafts in those clubs were senior flex, not a “stiff regular” flex. The advent of “stiff regular” shafts, almost exclusively for use in drivers, fairway woods and hybrids, didn’t really happen until more recently than when the T-Zoid models were made. Graphite Design was the first of the major shaft manufacturers to offer the SR (stiff regular) shafts, and Fujikura was among the next group of manufacturers (not many and mostly Japanese companies) to offer them. KBS has a different approach, offering R+ and S+ iron shafts in some model lines.

  19. We did this with our dog when I was a kid. My mom got the whole body shaved and the dog wouldn't let her anywhere near her head. End result a chihuahua mix with a lion mane. Lots of laughs, so many in fact the dog developed a complex and spent weeks under a blanket until the hair grew back.

  22. Going back to last fall I have been struggling with my irons resulting in a variety of mishits intertwined with some great shots. With my irons, I tend to go in streaks. I’ll play well for awhile, then fall into a slump. My recent struggles have been lingering for awhile. I’ve mentioned some things in previous posts that I’ve been working on to make some corrections derived from researching a variety of sources including Trackman data. By nature I’m very analytical and enjoy researching, studying, learning and practicing. When I’m playing I play be ‘feel’. My only on course analytics are to assess the resulting shot(s) then move on, but remember for a later practice session. When I struggle, I often rhetorically ask ‘what am I doing wrong?’ The answer is usually elusive. Well, the changes I’ve been working on seem to be working, and it dawned on me that a more important question to ask is often overlooked - when things are going well: ‘what am I doing right?’ ‘Feel’ is meaningful when supported by context. I guess my assumption is that if I know technically what I’m doing right, then when things aren’t working, the answer to what I’m doing wrong will better reveal itself.

  23. I know it's not morning, but I finally got my waffles! It was a bit of a challenge because the top part of the waffle maker wasn't heating right. Had to flip them and actually ruined one that stuck to the top. It was so worth it, they're delicious!

    How'd you play?

11 FW, 10 GIR, 36 putts 42/42:84 Chilly and windy to start but overall I felt like I hit the ball pretty well; better than the score reflects. Distance is way down; I guess due to the cold temps...high today was 45 and before we started my fingers were pretty cold. Short game wasn't great and when I hit the green I seemed to be in a really bad spot which resulted in 5 3-putts.

  25. I can't say I blame you for being late getting on the forum, weather like that is hard to pass up. Not to mention, that's a good way to start out your round. I'm jealous of the weather, it was below freezing this morning and is 38 with a wind chill of 32 right now.

I can relate to both loss of patience and new guys joining groups. We had a 'new guy' join our group last Wednesday. The guy spent most of the time walking along the ponds fishing for golf balls (we have water on all but 2 holes). I was constantly waiting for him to hit since regardless of hole he was 30 yds shorter. Then after the round he complained to my partner that I was playing too fast WTH. Rumor was that he found about 4 doz balls. At $75. grreens fees he would have been better off going to a local executive course ($20) and spending the balance on new balls.

You know how some people are when they get half baked or get too crispy or burnt. So you're thinking they might be referred to as the Sausage Boyz? I hope not, not sure I could take having to think of that name every time it gets posted.

Oh oh.. there’s some negative vibes in Bacon Boyz. There’s a couple new guys who are complaining about some other guys, not good. Sometimes adding new guys (blood) is good but sometimes not so good. Going to have to sort this out. When you have that many guys there can be problems.

  47. It was sunny, cool, and windy today so I decided it would be a good day to go to the range. Actually, my wife suggested it since she's not feeling good and is spending most of her time in the bedroom. I'm not going to say it was my best day, but it surely wasn't my worst. I'll just say it was fun getting out hitting some balls. My wedges were horrendous. Shank, shank, shank, shank, top. That last one was setting me up for the theme of the day which was thin. It seemed like most of my shots were coming low off the face. I only hit a small bucket, so I was limited to the number of shots I hit per club. My set GW was probably one of my better clubs today, I was slightly off the heel but hitting nice shots near my target. I love this club. The 8 iron was a little inconsistent, but I was still hitting it decent. The 6 iron was trying to cut the ball in half. I hit some low screamers with it, but the contact was pretty consistent. I hit a couple of good shots with my 5 wood, but topped one so bad it wasn't funny. I think I should start spraying the bottom of the club to check contact there. Driver was pretty good. I hit one high toe and you can barely see the impression next to the "Flash Face" writing and the others were a little more near the heel. I was happy with the consistency. I need to continue to work on a pre shot routine and not freeze so much over the ball. I've gotten better than I was where I was locked in terrible thoughts for way too long standing over the ball. After I left the putting green I found a couple of balls sitting close to the mat in a puddle of water and hit some chips with them just sitting the club down and going. Those were the most pure wedges I hit all day and a proof statement not to be a basket case over the ball. I did roll some putts, where I started out pulling everything. I made a slight adjustment in set up and focused on rolling the ball over an intermediate target and got that straightened out.

  50. morning everyone To follow up on yesterday's gm my daughter did very well at the heptathlon. She broke her college schools record for the most points earned at a meet by 138 points which is a good amount. She is a sophomore, so she has another two years to go. I think she will only get better. There were a ton of colleges there and she was coming in 4th place in a lot of events. I'm so impressed with her abilities and holding a straight A average. I submitted my Cobalt Q6 review this morning. So, I'm in golf mode again. My course is closed for open play today due to some qualifying rounds for a college event. But the weather is kind of crappy anyway. Tomorrow bright sunshine and in the 50's.
