Let me start off saying I am no Scotch Expert in any way. However, I can say that I mostly drink high proof bourbon/Rye (Bookers, ECBP, WTRB, KC12, Sagmore Cask rye, ect...) and have found a few scotches that I quite enjoy:

Dalmore (12 and Cigar Malt - Both Great)

The Balvenie Double Oak (I want to get a bottle of the Caribbean Cask to try soon and maybe down the line might splurge for the Portwood)

Highland Park 18yr (I just picked up the Highland Park Cask Strength Release 1, but have not tried it just yet)

If you're interested in the Balvenie Portwood, grab it of you see it. It is no longer available in my world.

Thanks for the thoughts! At this point I would say I like the sweet/grain tastes more! I feel like they might be more "entry-level" flavors since Scotch is commonly held as a harsher spirit (though I understand it is versatile). I'd appreciate any recos in that profile!

I tell customers all the time that if they want to dive into single malts, start with the Highlands. They are less peat driven and the flavor profile is more fruit, honey, and bready. Some solid options to start with are Glenlivet 12, Glenfiddich 12( tastes like fresh pears), and if you feel like you want to treat yourself, Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14. It's aged in rum barrels and is on the sweeter side. As referenced by Silver and Black, the island single malts typically have a smoky, peaty characteristic to them. An exception to this would be unpeated Bruichladdich Scottish Barley. You will, however, get some briny notes from being on the ocean. Another great dram is Oban. I think it is the best of both worlds in the sense that it is a coastal highland single malt, so they roast the malt with some peat, but you also get the seaside influence in a highland whisky. The best part about the journey, is the journey itself.

Happy Birthday!!  Hope you had a great day which, of course, includes golf!

It did. We had a family round with two of the kids and my wife. We were fortunate in that it was about 65 degrees yesterday, overcast and showers. Stay cool in the PNW. This heat you all are getting is a bit unprecedented.

I talked to my dad last night and it was 113 outside of Eugene, OR at 6pm. Crazy!

  4. All of the above comments are spot on. I would also suggest that if you find something you like or are wanting to try, don't wait to grab it. Items that I used to be able to get on a regular basis( too many to mention by name) have become allocated and I get allocations periodically, if at all, especially when it relates to bourbon or rye. Needless to say, a large chunk of time is spent trying to keep my shelves from being empty. Happy hunting!

Awesome.  Have a great time.  Am joining 99 other TT loyalists on September 12 for three days at Pinehurst.  Playing #4 on Monday, #2 and the Cradle on Tuesday and #8 on Wednesday.  Looking forward to making old acquaintances and making new friends.  Will be driving up on Sunday afternoon for check in, greet, meet, putting and social event.  Always a blast at these events and meeting folks from all over the world.  See those that are on here soon.  CZ

I played in a Clubcorp event a handful of years ago at Pinehurst. It was prior to the #4 renovation, but 4 was supposed to be in the rotation and was taken off, as it took some damage earlier in the that summer. We played #2, #6, #8 for the tournament and snuck in additional rounds on #2, #5, and #9. 36 a day in the Carolina heat was a workout, but so fun. I would do it again in a second. I didn't jump into the TT event due to timing, but have a great time. Breakfast in the Carolina lodge is a delicious experience. Service was top notch as well. Enjoy!

I spent quite a bit of time in Carlsbad when I was working (traveling) and always enjoyed it.  Nice to see folks getting out and enjoying time with family, friends, and seeing our great country.  I just noticed you hail from Laramie, WY... howdy neighbor 👍.

We really like the San Diego area. I'd never live there, but it's great to spend a few days at a time. We can just relax and not have to be anywhere. The kids and I are going to play Goat Hill Tuesday and are going to look for another place before we head back.

I hate to admit this but still haven't made my way to Montana. One of these days. I need to come up there and fish, but running a business and life seem to get in the way. I hear it's beautiful there.

I live in Wilsonville, so Langdon is preferred but they jacked up their greens fees and are double what Stone Creek and some of the other area public courses are charging!

That’s robbery. It’s not that nice. If you’re in Wilsonville, I’d drive the hour to Trysting Tree or Mallard Creek in Lebanon.

Was a great time for sure. I shot an ugly 109. Was keeping pace the first four holes and then had a blow up. Also 8 three putts, ugh. Had a super awesome bird on a par 5. Great drive.  Then super hybrid to 60 out on a hill. Then 6 iron bump and run to 10 ft.

Greens were certainly fast and as we learned on 15, all greens break toward hole number 12. Great to know for next time. Course was stunning for a muni. Better than some semi privates I’ve played.

Sadly this round we had a group behind us always hitting into us. On 17, I was playing my 3rd and I got hit in the back ( on the bounce) from one of them in the group on their drive. I was not pleased and let the clubhouse know. I should have tossed his ball in the lake, but this is a gentleman’s game.

I agree with the gentleman part but firing one back at them typically gets the point across. 😳

I’ve played Stone Creek a few times and always found that the shop pushed out as many groups as they could. From what I remember, there are a handful of holes that can cause congestion too.

Played this morning with @rbsiedsc at Stone Creek in Oregon City.... Course was is in primo condition, firm and fast, and wearther here in the PNW is perfect.  I shot an 87 but it felt much better. Had a lot putts that could have gone in on another day.  Either way it was a great first time outting with another spy!

I’ve played that track more than once. Good layout but typically packed. My wife grew up in Molalla. I like it better than Langdon Farms. Great to see fellow spies get together.

Actually it does not.  It’s a Wilson Sunday bag that is pretty cool.  I need to get it setup though. It’s great for walking a 5 hole loop.

Yeah, I have one too...... I'm a huge Seamus Golf fan and got a Sunday bag from them on sale. I have a problem, including a number of Seamus head covers for the seasons. It's like a disease.

    Hand wash right?

My wife insists on machine washing the kids hats and it pulverizes them.

I’m a little behind on this post, but I put hats in the top rack of the dishwasher. Express wash, no dishes. The temp is hotter than a clothes washer. They come out clean and not thrashed. Don’t let the wife catch you though.

Very nicely done, mid 70’s always a good thing.

I’ll take 1/2 of that monsoon!!

    Thanks.

There is also a high probability of electricity too, so better safe than struck. I get a little jumpy with lightning. I've had every hair on my body stand straight up right before a tree was hit 60yds from me at my in-laws. The tree ignited.
