  1. I made a costly mistake when Ping lowered the price of the G425 clubs. I assumed the Distanza shaft would work as well in a 3W,5W, 4&5 hybrid as it did in my driver. Not even close.

ebay saved me (and very cheaply, I might add). A seller had/has the original Stealth 5 hybrid and 3HL and 7W in LH  with the Ventus Red shaft in A flex brand new. The hybrid was $99  and the two FWs were $139 each.

The G425’s will either be sold or saved until this 69yo body loses even more swing speed.

  2. Agree 100% about the Stealth 3HL. I played an M2 version for 6 years then wandered into the wilderness looking at various 3&5 wood combos, including the G425.
The 16.5* Stealth is as long or longer and flies higher than the 425 3W. Pairing the 3HL up with a matching Stealth 7W and 5H has simplified my “headcover game” and my scores have been the better for it.

I still play the G425 5W with the matching 4&5 hybrids in a spare bag when I’m up on Long Island, but that Ping 3W is collecting dust.

He can’t wait…I can’t wait to see his face when he starts hitting them!

Don’t sleep on the 47* AW and the 51* GW. The AW is my favorite club in my bag. It’s been money as a 100 yard club for me, and although I don’t use the GW too often ( I go 54&58 instead ) it’s a smooth 85 yard club.

FYI as far as those yardages…

I have the KBS60 (67g) A flex in my set.  My SS with my driver is about 85mph.

Mom wanted to purchase my Dad a set of irons this year.  He’s used the same set for decades and I’ve brought it up that he deserves something more modern to make the game more enjoyable.  So after some searching, keeping in mind a budget I went with the Tour Edge E723 6-PW.  These will be perfect for him and much deserved.  What a great club for not a lot of $$

I hope your dad enjoys them as much as I do my E722’s. Forgiving, launch high and long.

What really amazes me though is the finish on them. I’ve never seen anything like it. 80 plus rounds in and the guys at bag drops down here still ask “are these new?” They barely have a mark on them… even the faces. It’s unreal.

Here once again. Callaway Preowned is selling the all titanium Great Big Bertha 7 woods new for $150 w headcover. I hit these at golf galaxy and found them amazingly easy to hit and long but they were like $500 at the time. Only thing is hard to find stiff shafts with this series as its very lightweight but thats fine, I just installed my own as I had a HZDUS black RDX 6.0 and a Diamina 'ahina. Put on the rdx and my god is this the easiest club I ever hit from fairway. Also brought it down to 20 degrees and with the lower launch shaft, its a super easy 225 yards, 20 yards longer than my previous 7 wood. If you are a senior or slower swing speed, I highly recommend these with the stock helium shafts at the price callaway preowned is selling them for. Driver too.  So light and easy to launch.

My second buy was a king tec 5 hybrid with MMT stiff that I got from Proclubs on ebay for $65 new w headcover. They have a bunch so check them out. I tend to pull hybrids but this thing is dead straight with weight in toe. Gaps with the 7 wood well at about 200. Only had a couple rounds with it but every shot I had with it was solid making me more confident with my hybrids again

The GBB 3W in that series is the club that finally knocked my ‘16 M2 out of my bag. The 5W didn’t work as well for me, I went with the Paradym instead (now I’m thinking about getting a matching 7W)

Enjoy the new 7w I hope it works as well for you as the 3W does for me!

Pete's is a great shop! ..been there a few times. Probably end up there; definitely trust them. There's a True Spec in the city, but I don't like going into the city... There's also a Club Champion not too far away; but yeah you have to be careful of the sales / upsell pitches.

I've been going to GolfTec for lessons - yes I know I know about their fittings - but that and PGATSS are convenient for *trying out* the major brand clubs.

My daughter just bought a house in Commack. Way too close to the new PGASS they opened there.

Like it wasn’t bad enough I have two of them within 6 miles of me down here in Myrtle Beach. 😂

I'm fortunate to have a nice driving range about one mile from my house.  I went up this morning to spend more time with my Apex DCB irons that were converted to  2-degrees flat.  Each time out with this new spec I see such an improvement in dispersion, ball flight, and overall distance. This new lie angle will feel natural by the time the T350s hit my front porch.  Getting pumped! 💣  A proper fitting is slicker than a fat pig at the county fair!

I don’t know if you received your T350’s yet, but if you did can you tell me how they stack up against the DCBs?

The 5-AW set of DCBs we talked about in the what did you buy thread is arriving sometime today… I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. 😂

Great deal! And nice you were able to return the others on eBay, too.

The 7i in my practice bag is a DCB with a Recoil Dart - love it - love the feel of the forged head and the shaft works great for me .. but I needed something a little more GI for my gamer set.

    Enjoy 'em!!

I felt kinda bad about returning the Halos, because I got the 5-DW from Hurricane Golf (the Sub 70 guys) brand new for $470 which was another great deal, but when I saw the DCB listing I ran over to the PGASS and compared the two… like @ole gray said, the DCB’s are no joke… beautiful looking iron also.

I absolutely love my E722’s, they’ve been everything I want from an iron, so it will be a fun head to head to see which set becomes my Myrle Beach gamer, and which one goes into my backup “Long Island” bag!

  9. Last week I told everyone I wanted to fill out a backup bag after the bag drop guys packed my bag with those of a travel group and I couldn’t play for 16 days.

I picked up a set of Halo hybrid irons for a good price on eBay but when I opened the box, I was kind of underwhelmed at the thought of playing them.

Problem solved… today I stumbled upon a brand new set of Apex DCBs 6-AW with the Recoil Dart shafts for only $675 which is $500 cheaper than they’re going for in stores. Thankfully, I hadn’t unwrapped the Halos… they were returned this afternoon.

All right y'all, I need some advice!

Because my life is awesome like that sometimes, I find myself in possession of a $700 TaylorMade gift card. I have to use it on the TaylorMade website, but that's the only restriction. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to splash out for the latest and greatest driver, the Stealth 2 HD or get something a little cheaper (like the SIM2 Max) and upgrade my putter too.

For reference my current driver is a 10/12 year old Calloway HyperX; I hit it pretty well and any problems I have are because of my swing, not the club. Putter is whatever PowerBilt was selling in their sets circa 97/98.

I’d get the putter also. Two birds with one stone, and plenty of Tour players are still using the Sim, it’s a great driver.

  11. I just got through a two week long nightmare. My clubs were mistaking ly packed with those from a large travel group from the West coast visiting  Myrtle Beach. It took that long to get my clubs back. 😱

in the interim, I decided to fill out a second bag, so I’d never be unable to play for that long ever again.

I already had two sets of wedges (CBX and Zipcores) a 3H and a Yes! putter. I picked up a Cobra Speedzone 21* 4 hybrid on Amazon for $79 new, and got what I think was a steal on eBay from Hurricane Golf (the Sub70 folks)… a new set of Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons 5-DW for $479.00.
I had a set of these for about 6 months before selling them to a friend. tbh they were good, but not great. At that price though, they’ll be just fine, and I’ll enjoy them during those periods when my swing goes awry.

I took advantage of the 200% trade in offer Callaway had and traded two old (M2 & Mavrik Max FWs for a Paradym 5W. That leaves only a driver to fill out this backup bag.

it dawned on me today that if I can find a deal on another G425 driver, this could end up being one of the all time most forgiving setups ever… G425 driver, Paradym 5W, Cobra 4H, Halos 5-DW, CBX 54* & 58* and putter.

Are there people actually living there now? I thought most of them had moved here. Good Lord at the PGASS in Dirty Myrtle you can buy more Ohio State logo stuff than you can Carolina and Clemson combined no joke. A guy I befriended and he plays with us some moved down here a little over a year ago from Ohio. He is the computer stats etc type of guy. I told him about that and he had to go see for himself. He told me at first he thought I was shooting him a line of BS. But he computed it and found out I was dead on it.

Yep… and don’t forget all the Yinzers from Pittsburgh. 🙄

This looks great. Looking for auto hearing how it works for you.

I switched my Scotty to a Super Stroke (I am familiar with) this year and it’s been a big plus to SG putting according to Arccos.  I agree the Pistolini grips look great, but not sure it works for me either.

Last year I ordered my Phantom X 5.5 with a black Matador midsize. I loved everything about the putter but that Pistolini.

Have a serious look at the Callaway Apex UW. They're like a hybrid and fairway had a baby. I bought a 5 and 7 a couple of weeks ago and these things are going to end up being weapons for me.

I got the previous model (not much difference from the just released new one that I can tell) for 35% less than retail through Callaway Pre Owned.

I drool over those Callaway UW’s, but i don’t think they’re available in LH?

  15. This is going to sound a bit crazy, because I agree totally with @chisag and @cksurfdude about 3Ws, and players with declining swing speeds. But have you ever just set a club down to the ground and known you will hit it well? I just had that feeling this morning… but here’s the rub. It was a RH model so I wasn’t able to demo  it. 🙄

That’s not the end of the world though, because like Chisag, I’d prefer to test them on the course instead of in a store.
I’m no pro, but I can hit any club fairly well after a few swings off a mat. The real test comes on the course when you’re under pressure.

Even if they give me comparable distances to the 16.5* 3HL and 3H I have in the bag now, I’d much prefer the higher ball flight and extra carry these will supposedly give me. Any distance gains would be a bonus.

Ah well… Nothing ventured, nothing gained? 🤷‍♂️

  16. I’m playing pretty well lately, but I need to solve what is becoming an issue with my bag setup between my driver and 4 hybrid.

My 16.5 3HL has worked as well as any FW has for quite a while, but my swing speed has slowed the past 7 years to a point where I’m getting about 15 less yards than I did when I bought it.

I’ve recently replaced my 5 iron with a 5 hybrid, and it’s been a revelation. I also replaced my 3H with a HW, but it’s giving me the same distance as my 4H (they are both 20*) and I need more than that from a FW.

I want to get a 5W to gap above the 4H, but that would get me very close in yardage to the 16.5* 3HL. If I were to put a 15* 3W in the bag, it would have to be a very forgiving and high launching one as FW’s have never been my strength. I’ve come to a point where I need to get better with them though as my 3H isn’t giving me the carry distance it should. It’s become a “certain type of course” club.

I’ve been looking at reviews, and the Big Bertha 21 3&5 woods seem to fit the bill for a weak FW player such as myself. I can get them at a very good price, but I can’t demo them. (I’ve never even seen one). They seem to be bordering on the extreme, with shallow, offset heads and slightly shorter shafts.

Has anyone here had any experience with them, and am I on the right track thinking of buying them?

That stinks but my big takeaway was that you were bombing the greens.

You make a good point here.

I don’t know why I dwell on the negative rather than take what was positive from a round. This game is supposed to be fun.

That said, desperate times call for desperate measures, lol. I went to the putting green today with my old warhorse. If you look at my sig, you’ll see the Cameron 5.5 is in a timeout until further notice and my Yes! Tracy is back in the sack.

    A set of Sub 70 699 V2s with Recoil 660s and upgraded ferrules ...

    20230810_175506.jpg.8250527bff34c0982687e8e5d1794fd9.jpg

I really like the way they pack the clubs in the two slotted foam holders (plus extra pieces of foam at each end of the box). Not crazy about the hat colors but funny enough it's close to NY Mets and Islanders colors, so there's that 😄

There's no grip on the 7i as I also picked up a Dragon Skin "Calm Dragon" .. ie. tacky feel .. to try on it. Got it installed today and gonna try it within the next few days (informal member review to follow).

This is the first time I've seen the head weight shown on each iron!

    20230810_175617.jpg.23b9cac57cce930cd85480a7a1c1f6b4.jpg

So I do kinda like the industrial look of these .. I think it also accentuates the weighting/cog (progressive set) design.

Did demo these first .. more details to follow in the near future ...

Congratulations Chuck, enjoy the new sticks! I know you’ve been looking for a while and have demoed a bunch of different irons, so I know you made a great choice.

I’ve always been curious about Sub70, but their options for LH demos are either non existent, or extremely limited as far as shaft and flex. If you have the time, can you tell us what your other finalists were, and why you went with these?

  19. I’m going to try a little experiment. 🙄

I just ordered a Halo Launcher XL 5 iron with a KBS shaft (same as my irons). I played the Halos 5-DW for a while before switching to my E722’s.

I hit my current 5 iron very well off a tee, but depending on the lie, I’m sometimes hesitant to hit it off the turf. I could easily get by with it, but I remember the Halo 5 iron working so well from any lie.

Because I’m so familiar with the club, I knew I’d have to get it 2* strong in order to gap properly between my G425 4H and my E722 6 iron.

It only cost me $103 including a $14 upgrade shaft for a club that I know will give me exactly what I want for way less than the cost of a standard 5H.

  20. I shot an 84 yesterday on the Dye Course in Barefoot Resort, which isn’t a bad score at all for me on this one.

Despite one very lucky short sided flop shot that went in for a birdie, I cost myself at least another 5 strokes by either skulling or chunking easy shots on other holes. I thought I’d solved this problem, but it  had reared it’s ugly head again. It ended up costing me $30 when I finished one point out of first in my flight in a Stableford game.

On the bright side everything else about my game was good. I was very happy with my full swing, and my putter was working well all day. I sank a couple long ones, and made some very clutch saves for pars and bogeys when I had to.

I came home today and when I opened the garage door found my Sun Mountain bag laying flat on the ground with the stand legs pointing the wrong way.....   ugh....   disappointing considering it was only 2 years old.

Went over to the local DSG and grabbed a Ping Hoofer.  Loaded it up and will use it tomorrow.

Seems nice with a lot more storage than the Sun Mountain.

If you haven’t thrown the SM bag out yet, give them a call. I had a similar problem and the woman I spoke to knew exactly what the issue was. They sent me a replacement part via 2 day shipping to attach to the legs at no cost even though my bag was older than yours.
