Tale of Two Nines

Recommended Posts

Had a weird round today. Still really wet up here in the PNW, so the rough just off the fairway was US Open long and sticky. The front nine I couldn't find the fairway off the tee to save my life, and it cost me a cool 44 on the front. Probably the worst 9 hole score for me in two years. Turned around to shot a 38 on the back, leaving a couple of makable birdie putts hanging.

What's your largest disparity between 9's in a single round?

My most heart breaking disparity was a front nine 33, followed by a back nine 40 to shoot 1 over.

I broke 90 for the first time last year on Father's Day. I shot a 50 on the front and 39 on the back. I framed that scorecard.

37 on the front 50 on the back. The worst part? It was in a high school tournament that was on a nine hole course. That day was an absolute disaster.

I had a high school teammate shoot 50 on the front and 32 on the back, the funniest post-round conversation ever.

I kind of like this. Your team mate didn't fall apart and got fired up to go on a tear. At least he didn't shot a 32 and fall apart to shoot a 50 on the back! That's a tougher one to come back to next time mentally.

I had something similar happen to me last Friday on Eastbay golf course in Utah. It was cold, windy, and snowing a little. After getting par on the first I continued to bogey every hole for a 44. I mean three putting galore and just terrible golf all over the place. The back nine I didn't miss a fairway and shot 1 over for a 37 for a total of 81. Golf really is a silly game, but it's days like these that I really love it.

Absolutely no consistency to it but one of my nines always always always seems to be 6 or 7 strokes difference to the other nine. I don't play the same course all the time either.

I made an observation about something similar to this the other day. 17 at two different courses have kicked my a$$ this year

I just thought it cool that I'm not the only one that has the same affect at different course

Don't feel bad I shot a 28-36 one time. -7 on the front even on the back. I know I know some people would pay to have that problem haha. The most frustrating 64 ever

Alcohol has provided me the opportunity to have some back 9's that had little in common with the front.  a 10 stroke swing has a common place in my "out having fun" game.

Apparently, after today, I am an equal opportunity bad golfer on the front 9 AND back 9.. I threw a nice 9 on a hole on the back to make sure of this...

Ok here's my tale of woes..

9 hole resort course plays to a 35 for par.. ON the Columbia river about 90 degrees with a nice cool breeze (nothing to much to affect golf more just keep you comfortable)..

front 9 shoot 37, back 9 shoot 47... On the same 9 holes.. It might have had something to do with the Cooler full of Corona's we had on our cart but I'm not sure.. I think it might have been the heat, I was having a hard time lining up putts on the back 9.... Good thing I was hydrated...

Once shot 33 (-3) on the front. I was about 16-17. Called my dad "dad, I just shot 33 on the front!" He says well don't blow it on the back...I shot 46... barely even broke 80. Two weeks ago I shot 38 (+1) 46...couldn't find the golf course with the tee ball.
