Open Shoulders Equals Fade?

Recommended Posts

I usually hit a slight draw but have been hitting all fades recently, especially with my driver. I took and down the line picture of my setup and noticed that my shoulders and my whole body somewhat looked open. It would make sense that the swing would have to be started outside the line with this setup making me come across the ball and fading it on the downswing. Has anyone else had this experience?

Preciate it!!!!

It could be part of the reason, but without seeing your swing it's not prudent to jump to conclusions. The Golf swing is not full of many absolutes. I can hit fades and draws with much shoulders at the address. I can hit fades with a strong grip and draws with a weak grip. There are so many moving parts that it's impossible to know what exactly is going on without seeing the full picture.

Yeah I mean you can really hit it Any direction with open shoulders or closed shoulders. The fade with open shoulders could be because you're holding off from turning left and holding the club off or like you said starting the swing outside etc Or you could turn quick and draw it. Golf is just a silly game lol

Lots of generalities can be made without seeing the swing.  By fade,  I am assuming you mean start left and curves right.  Based on how the ball flies,  if it is starting left,  the path of the club is generally left and the face is open to that path at impact.

I have found that I can hit a fade with open shoulders, parallel shoulders, closed shoulders, hell I could prolly hit a fade with perpendicular shoulders! It's all about that club path and face angle.. Which unfortunately, I seem to have little control over! But going back to the topic... I think open shoulders makes it *easier* to play a fade, but by no means does open shoulders automatically equate to a fade.

Thanks for the replies guys. I played last night and tried to feel like I had square shoulders at address. I shot the worst round of the year. Imagine that!! I do think it has something to do with ball position though because it is mostly with my driver and I try to play it off of my left heel but did notice that I had it forward of that a bit. Of course that was on my last hole. I am going to put some range time in today and see if moving it back a little helps. I will post my swing if anyone is interested. Thanks again.
