Golf2Much
I broke 80 today (79) shooting one over par on the back. The special hole was number 12, a 340 yard par 4. The hole has water up the left side of the fairway and out of bounds on the right. What wind we had was about 10 mph left to right. Two of my three playing partners put one in the water and one's third shot flew OB. I stepped up and hit about 190 yards right down the center of the fairway leaving me about 140 yard to a front pin placement. I hit a 7 irons just short and made a 15 ft. putt from off the green for a birdie. Recently did a society event day at the St Pierre golf course in Chepstow (first time playing there). 12th hole is my best of the day (530 yards dog leg left, stroke index 4). Hit it left of the tee with the driver and it went straight through a tree and landed in the rough. Took the 3 wood out of the rough and landed next to the 150 yard marker. Third shot with the 7 iron and landed on the green, two taps on the green for a par score. With my handicap taken in gave me the best point score of my day. I was so damn happy to get a level par on a 5 par hole. I'm due to play there in May (I'm based in Plymouth). I've heard it's tight and has hosted a Solheim Cup/numerous European Tour events, but surprisingly there is very little written about the course online and even fewer Vlogs showcasing the course. So...what's the place like? What was your experience? Any advice is very welcome. Thanks Quote Bag full of mostly PING, apart from Cleveland CBX wedges..I need all the help I can get! Some of the hills are quite steep so make sure the cardio is up to scratch. Overall it is a very nice course. The 18th is deceptively long so club up on that one. NubianRugby
Par 3, hole #4 at Langston yesterday; hit a beautiful, majestic, high-arcing 7 iron to 15 feet above and to the left of the hole. This green is very nasty, if you hit the front of it you will bounce and roll back off the green, so in a perfect world you're below the hole. I lift, clean, and place; taking my time for my only birdie putt of the day. I choose a line, strike the ball gently with my putter and it's rolling towards the hole just like I saw it in my head. Then the ball stops one rotation short of dropping in the hole for a kick in par. I was disappointed to not get that birdie, but was happy to have played a clean hole. Nemac
Played this thursday. It was a lovely spring day in the UK with winds up to 20mph. Only shame was I left my putter at home and had to putt with my 9 iron which added to the challenge. Shot of the day was on the 12th hole which is a 191 yard par 3 with severe drop downhill from the tee and a right to left crosswind. Hit a 6 iron which had baby draw of 5 yards to 25 feet and slotted the putt with my 9 iron for a fantastic birdie. gingerbeast87
Had an up and down round today. Stableford score gave me 37 points, but shot 31 over, lost about 8 balls, 3 putted 7 holes. It's almost like I haven't had much of a chance to play over winter . But the plus side is that my chipping was going really well and scored a birdie on one of the par 3's. 8 iron to 5ft of the hole then one putt to get it down. Yipmychip
I’ve had two Aces in my 25yr + golf life and although I’m grateful for them they were both shanks/skulls. My buddy’s and I have a standing bet , whoever gets a hole in one receives $100 from every member of our group or groups. My first was a foggy morning playing 195yds and hitting my 3hybrid. We saw the left to right curve over the bunker that never lifted over d*** high. My partners all were at their balls and noticed I was still searching for mine high and low without avail. They also started helping me and after a few minutes one of my buddies said “check the hole”. Sure enough, there it was ! As I’m hooting and hollering I’m looking at my friends and their disbelief of how lucky I am and how unlucky they were. Shaking their heads, telling it’s bs, shankmaster was a new name I’ve never been called all the while feeling exhilarated and also kind of embarrassed because they were right. It was an awful shot that should have never went in. But the $300 I grabbed out of their cold tight hands got me over the guilt. The second ace wasn’t as spectacular, 148yds , 7 iron. Another low left to right skank shot that hit twenty yards short and kept on rolling. I didn’t even get to see the full roll because I had already turned around in disgust yelling expletives about how I was going to sell all my clubs, giving up golfing and take up bowling. Then I hear “no f****** way” as I turn back around and see the last foot or two before it drops in. This one was even better because we had two 4somes that day. $700 Woohoo ! I’d like to have felt great about those two shots but after the money has been spent I feel more embarrassed about how ugly both of those shots were. Hopefully one day I can feel proud about an ace if there is a next time. ryan.mzzz and FallenSaber

Northern Monkey
Par 4 338yds Totally mishit my tee shot and send it off into the rough on the right leaving me around 175 yards to the pin. Pull out the 3 hybrid and hit what felt like a lovely shot. Due to this hole being on an upslope with the green on the downside you can’t see the green until you get within about 50 yards so didn’t see it land. ryan.mzzz
I hit a 25 ft downhill right sweeping putt that broke at least 15 feet for a par on the par 5 first hole after duffing my drive since the range was closed this morning and I couldn’t hit my 20 practice balls. the rest of the 4some were bickering about something as I made the strike, and it looked good the whole way. the length of the putt, and how severe the slope of the green at the cup, it just didn’t seem like it was possible, and for the last 10 feet everyone went silent and watched that yellow prov1 glide into the dead center of the cup. then a couple of the guys started yelling in disbelief. it was an amazing way to start a round. what a confidence booster and finally some validation for all the work i’ve been putting in with my putter. i then kissed a 45 footer off the flag on the third hole that did not go down. i’ve had terrible luck with flagstick’s this year. ParFore74x
I’m calling this one my best today because for some reason I rarely get a good drive on this hole. Par 5 playing 523 yards which is flat to the dogleg and then uphill to the green. Nothing special in terms of scoring but it was just one of those tee shots that had a nice flight to it. Ball stayed fairly low and was perfectly straight all the way to the fairway. Just one of those shots that makes me smile. I’ve been experimenting with driver settings lately and where I currently at seems to be working well.
