Popular Post edingc
I originally wanted to order the Dynacraft bench ruler kit from Hireko, but they recently went out of stock. Additionally, they are around $30. So I decided to just make my own for the time being. USGA/R&A measuring is based on a 60-degree lie angle. That is what these plans are based on. Material List Empire 48 in. Aluminum Straight Edge Ruler - $8.97 (Home Depot) 2 foot scrap 1x3 Pine (good quality, S4S) Wood Glue Tools Miter Saw Clamp Set the miter saw to 30 degrees. Slice a corner of the 1x3 off. This leaves a 60 degree angle. Reset the saw to 90 degrees. Slice off a few inches behind the angle, leaving a foot or so of straight 1x3. Flip the angled cut so that it matches like below. Glue and clamp. Once the glue dries, slide the ruler tight against the straight edge, butting up to the base of the angle. To measure, press the sole of the club against the angle. Press the hosel flush against the bottom board. Measure club length. My Wilson C300 4 iron is spot on the 39-inch specification. If only I could get one long enough in the UK They're all only 1m, so not quite long enough for measuring, but do have one for putting! I'll post a photo if I can find a useful way to mount a protractor on it, so that it can do lie angle as well. Not sure it'll be overly precise, but will see what happens. Thanks again for your idea! Saved me about $60! Two planks of wood, a hinge and a short ruler was $15 at most. It's $70-80 inc shipping to get the Dynacraft set up in the UK. StellaKelley
It's great that you found a more cost-effective solution than buying the Dynacraft kit. Plus, making something yourself can be really satisfying! Tried using an on-screen ruler. It's a super handy tool that you can use on your computer or phone, and it's very accurate. You might find it helpful for double-checking your measurements or for measuring smaller things that require more precision. BillybobT
Just a couple comments and questions. I built a device with the 48" ruler and a hinge, but I think it would be easier to measure a club (especially a driver/wood/hybrid) if it was face down. That being said, even though I'm a rightie. as an aspiring club builder/repairer for lefties, I don't see any good solutions here (maybe I haven't been thorough) for this. I can'rt see spending 150 bucks for something like this at Golfworks. I seem to remember finding something like this here, or at some other site, but I can't remember where it was. Since I have some woodworking tools and limited woodworking skills and some engineering aptitude, I'm going to ponder on this further.
