gavinski91
Watching the PGA Tour back in action at Colonial last weekend got me thinking: do you have a preference for fairway mowing patterns? I don't think I've ever played a course that used the half-and-half pattern - at least not that I was able to notice from the tee. In theory that should make it easier to identify the center of the fairway from the tee box. I definitely prefer contour mowing over a straight striping pattern though, I feel more comfortable standing over the ball when I can identify the curves of the fairway out of the corner of my eye. Of course it would be nice if every course I played brought in a giant grounds crew to push cut every fairway to get that extra 10 yards of roll out, but that's obviously not feasible (plus I don't hit enough fairways to really take advantage of that). Do you have a preference? Why? GolfSpy_SHARK
Contour or half and half I like. But as long as it is mown and has some sort of differential from fairway/rough/fringe I’m happy GaDawg 1 Quote Check out my reviews: G710 Irons Official Review I MC Shaft & V Series Putter Official Review 2022 Forged Tec's Official Review I Nitron Push Cart Official Review WITB: Weapons of grass destruction (link to WITB) Traverse is filled with all this shiny metal and tracked by RadSpeed 8* - MotoreX F1 6X SIM 3W - Project X HZRDUS Green U505 Driving Iron 17* - Project X HZRDUS Black SpeedZone 4H - Project X HZRDUS Black 2022 King Forged Tec's 4-PW - KBS $ Tape 130 48 (SM8), 52 & 60 (SM7) - Nippon Modus 125 S ER2VI PROV1X #19 Are you a veteran? Kenny B
Ours was mown half and half last year... not this year. I like mown short, don't care how, so I get as much roll as possible. This causes some of the longest rolls of the year but, it is way tighter to the ground than I like for any shot at all. I prefer having some turf in the fairway to give just a tad allowing me to take a shallow divot without fear of hard ground. Quote Link to comment
Chizzle
As long as its mowed and manicured, it doesnt matter to me. Direction of the grass will effect how the ball rolls. I hope no course has checkerboard greens because that will cause the ball to snake around. gavinski91 1 Quote Link to comment

Sent from my SM-G950U using MyGolfSpy mobile app I mean if the tour is really concerned about distance off the tee they could do that backwards (run the mowers from green to tee instead of tee to green). That would greatly reduce driver rollout. ParFore74x
I don't really have a preference a far as my playing goes but I do appreciate it the aesthetics of a stripped fairway. Not really sure why i like it so much but it always seems to make me enjoy the day a bit more. They were doing this a couple of weeks ago at my home course while I was walking 18. There were a couple of holes on the back 9 that were half-and-half which looked really nice but I do not possess the skills to pick half of the fairway off the tee, I'm happy with anything on the fairway. aerospace_ray and gavinski91 1 1 Quote TSi3 10° w/ Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black 65g TS2 15° 3W w/ Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black 6.0 70g 818 H1 21° Hybrid w/ Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue 70g MP-18 MMC 2 iron w/ KBS Tour C-Taper S 120g JPX 921 HM 5-GW w/ Project X LZ 5.5 115g JB Forged 54° & 58° w/ Project X LZ 6.0 120g EV5.3 Black Link to comment
PlaidJacket
I'm in the don't care group as long as they are mowed neatly - closely..... and regularly. aerospace_ray
Truth is I just want fairways mowed nice and tight and a clear delineation regarding 1st, 2nd, etc cuts. In a perfect world I prefer fancy nice stripped fairways like the nicer courses have. Also it depends on turf type and how thick the turf is. Obviously would not want stripes on thin poor condition fairways, for those I only want them mowed evenly and as neat as possible all things considered. Quote Link to comment
