GolfSpy TCB
My personal opinion is that you will get an equivalent distance and speed with each of the brands ... on center hits.- it boils down to preference of look and feel - and maybe how well a club performs on off center hits. GolfSpy_APH
I mean to respond to this and I have not looked anything up so lets go! Fargiveness is Taylormade Driven by Power is Wilson go farther fast is Cobra? Faster by Design is TItleist? Major Power is Ping? We go farther is Srixon? Major Power is Callaway? I have so many of these wrong Um to answer the other questions... I don't know I need to hit them all and see for myself. cnosil
Honestly the only one I know off the top of my head is TM. I've vaguely recall some of the others; guess the saying don't make any impact on me. For me, until it is in my hands and I see some numbers, I don't believe much and generally all of them provide the same distance off the center of the face. the advantage comes when you miss hit and I never see anyone touting that they are better on toe or heel strikes. richk9holes
My 2 cents on the OEM distance debate: some of the technology works to make the ball go further, but if you can't control it that extra distance is often in a direction that hurts your game. My anecdotal evidence is I had a Tour Edge exotics EXS driver that was advertised as a distance monster and it was for me. I used to hit the thing 30 yards further than any driver I had used. I loved it. It wasn't until that driver broke and I started using my current TS2 that I realized being able to hit it 220 yards into the same 10 yard circle over and over is much preferred to hitting it 260, but half the time in the trees. There's no question in my mind Tour Edge clubs gave me a distance boost as advertised, but it was a fleeting experiment and eventually the driver, 3w and 5H I had all got replace with clubs that have tighter dispersion. I love Tiger dismissing Rory and Colin with "I'm still hearing far, but whatever". ... I do think every driver is potentially different for every player. How even center reacts to swing speed, AOA, face angle and other variables can produce different results so I am not in the camp of every driver is the same hit dead center. And as you said, off center can be better for one and not the other given your individual swing. There has never been a more appropriate time to get fit for a driver. ... revkev
Like others I only remember the Taylor Made one. I often will flick during commercials or else I’m working while watching golf and only half a aying attention. They’re all good clubs - think of how closely they perform in the most wanted testing. If I’m not mistake those are “best fit” off the rack drivers as well. Not completely custom to the testers. I suspect that if you drilled down into the data you’d find that there are differing drivers that are “best” for each player in regards to distance. So bottom line, I believe all of them and none of them if that makes sense. If there really were a “best” everyone on tour would be using it quickly. The only time I’ve ever seen that was the Pro VI. The other OEMs jumped onto that band wagon in a hurry. That is correct; we are fit to the best shaft for each driver that is provided and stock. Ricksgrips
Definitely not. An ill fit club might be longer, but longer into the woods. Knowing where your ball is going to land and end up is more important. hitting from the short grass is easier then from behind a tree in the woods.
