It's all about DISTANCE.... Who Do You Believe?

I think we are all aware of the main the marketing tool being used by almost all OEM's with their new lines... so... let's play a game... 🙂

Match the following marketing statement to the OEM (no cheating 😉)

1. Faster by Design

2. Major Power

3. Unparalleled Distance

4. Driven By Power

5. Fargiveness

6. We Go Farther

7.  Go Farther, Faster

===================================================

A. Titleist

B. Taylor Made

C. Cobra

D. Ping

E. Callaway

F. Wilson

G. Srixon

But the real question is.... Who do YOU believe... and WHY?

What Say You MGS Forum??  Post your thoughts and comments in the thread below:

  • GolfSpy TCB changed the title to It's all about DISTANCE.... Who Do You Believe?

My personal opinion is that you will get an equivalent distance and speed with each of the brands ... on center hits.- it boils down to preference of look and feel - and maybe how well a club performs on off center hits.

I won't answer the above "test".. haha.  I prepared it.. I know the answers.  😉

I mean to respond to this and I have not looked anything up so lets go!

Fargiveness is Taylormade

Driven by Power is Wilson

go farther fast is Cobra?

Faster by Design is TItleist?

Major Power is Ping?

We go farther is Srixon?

Major Power is Callaway?

I have so many of these wrong

Um to answer the other questions... I don't know I need to hit them all and see for myself. I am sure small improvements are made, but given all of those slogans I think it just means swing hard ball go far haha

Honestly the only one I know off the top of my head is TM.   I've vaguely recall some of the others;  guess the saying don't make any impact on me.

For me, until it is in my hands and I see some numbers,   I don't believe much and generally all of them provide the same distance off the center of the face.  the advantage comes when you miss hit and I never see anyone touting that they are better on toe or heel strikes.

My 2 cents on the OEM distance debate: some of the technology works to make the ball go further, but if you can't control it that extra distance is often in a direction that hurts your game.

My anecdotal evidence is I had a Tour Edge exotics EXS driver that was advertised as a distance monster and it was for me. I used to hit the thing 30 yards further than any driver I had used. I loved it.

It wasn't until that driver broke and I started using my current TS2 that I realized being able to hit it 220 yards into the same 10 yard circle over and over is much preferred to hitting it 260, but half the time in the trees.

There's no question in my mind Tour Edge clubs gave me a distance boost as advertised, but it was a fleeting experiment and eventually the driver, 3w and 5H I had all got replace with clubs that have tighter dispersion.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks

Unparalleled Distance sounds like Titleist, the rest I have no idea.

I agree with some of the other comments on here. I won’t speculate best distance without having the actual clubs in hand to test side by side. I think it all depends on the golfer too. When I did a fitting in fall 2021, the TSi3 was the best performer for me, followed by Sim 2. I could not for the life of me launch the Epic Max LS

It appears the Taylor Made Marketing Team should be given the award for the (current) most recognizable slogan.  So I'll just add this here:

... The commercial is very memorable and pretty brilliant at indicating far while also being forgiving without actually claiming it. Just 3 guys talking. I love Tiger dismissing Rory and Colin with "I'm still hearing far, but whatever".

... I do think every driver is potentially different for every player. How even center reacts to swing speed, AOA, face angle and other variables can produce different results so I am not in the camp of every driver is the same hit dead center. And as you said, off center can be better for one and not the other given your individual swing. There has never been a more appropriate time to get fit for a driver.

... But to your original query, I never pay attention to any club marketed as "longer" than another so the only one I knew was Fargiveness. 🤪

I agree... a really well constructed commercial... and playing on Rory's Irish accent that makes "for" sound like "far".  smart marketing team.

In terms of pure distance I am starting to believe cobra more and more. They seem to be doing a lot to continue being leaders in ball speed year over year.

Like others I only remember the Taylor Made one. I often will flick during commercials or else I’m working while watching golf and only half a aying attention.

They’re all good clubs - think of how closely they perform in the most wanted testing. If I’m not mistake those are “best fit” off the rack drivers as well. Not completely custom to the testers. I suspect that if you drilled down into the data you’d find that there are differing drivers that are “best” for each player in regards to distance.

So bottom line, I believe all of them and none of them if that makes sense. If there really were a “best” everyone on tour would be using it quickly. The only time I’ve ever seen that was the Pro VI. The other OEMs jumped onto that band wagon in a hurry.

Driver: Taylor Made Xi10 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  R flex   - 44.25

Fairways:  Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood  Alta CB red 65 R flex

Hybrid:  Ping G410  26 degree  Alta CB Red 70 R flex

Irons: Ping G430  7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex

Wedges:  Ping 195 S54, E58

Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat

Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5”

Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.

That is correct; we are fit to the best shaft for each driver that is provided and stock.   The most wanted winner is the club that was best for the majority of the testers and that number is not 100% and probably less than 50%.  One of the benefits of being a tester is that we do get to do that dive and see which clubs work best for us as an individual.

A different Spin, since I don't know many.

2. Major Power - Kenny Powers

4. Driven By Power - Thanos

5. Fargiveness - Rory since that commercial is gold.

6. We Go Farther - The Under Armour voice guy, or the EA Sports guy.
