is it just me?  i am struggling with this masters all of a sudden…. Masters SHOULD be about the Masters. I am not used to seeing this side show, it is distracting me….

what sideshow are you referring too?    The Colt Knost/Scott Fawcett side show?   Or the Brooks rules infraction?  or LIV players performing well?

I'm kind of a stats person and was looking at the current stats and it is interesting that the trend continues.     The old adage  drive for dough, putt for dough probably doesn't apply to Scheffler.   He continues his below average putting and is at the bottom of the list for putting performance at the Masters.    Drive and approach definitely are the keys to being a good player.    Note, that doesn't mean you can thee jack everything but that a strong tee and approach game will take you a long way toward playing good golf.

i disagree, if your putter isnt hot you will not win.... period...the best putter this week will win

yeah,  tired of hearing about it,  but it is news and they talking heads need something to talk about.   

 

There was a debate on twitter which Colt continued on air discussing whether players should  hit driver or lay up on hole number 3.    Colt's position was that players should layup to about 100 and Scott and Lou Stagner showed historical data that showed hitting driver to the Thursday and Friday pin positions indicate that proximity to the hole and ultimately performance was better for those that didn't lay back to about 100.

Didn't say that the best putter won't win the masters.  Right now the statistically the best putters are Koepka, Mickelson, Kisner (who didn't make the cut), Bennett, and Rose.   

I was talking specifically about Scheffler who is the number one player in the world and is statistically a poor putter.  He is currently 25th in the event and no one is putting worse than he is.

Prediction: Spieth gets frustrated and overly aggressive today, plays himself out of it.  Then makes a “just short” run tomorrow.

Personally I really want to see him win any week, but especially the PGA.  My money is on Morikawa or Hovland this week.  I’m quietly hoping Koepka falls back to field.  I like him just fine I guess, but I don’t want to see a LIV guy win.

Putting is cyclical, some elite players cycles are different than others, scheffler may putt poorly this week and putt lights out next week and win…

It’s tough for sure.  At least he isn’t wearing he teams hideous hats and shirts like the others.  I hope he figures out a way to the PGA Tour.

You and I look at this differently.  You judge putting performance based on emotion where I look at how they compare statistically against the other players in the field.  Scheffler is always a middle of the pack or below putter statistically.

Most of the coverage I'm seeing of Tiger and his expressions leaves me thinking he's really not enjoying this event.  I mean, I know he's not playing really well, but considering what could have been his future two years ago, he should be smiling more and engaging with the fans way more.  Tiger, your playing in the Masters, you just tied another record, and your a billionaire... things could be way worse.

I've gotta say, the Masters app is an app like no other. I've really been enjoying watching the featured groups and wish the other major apps could at least compete with how good of a viewing experience it is.

Perhaps.  I just think it's time for him to become more of an engaging ambassador, the successor to Jack, Arnie, Gary, Trevino and others.  The "game face" thing I get, but, at this point in the journey, I'd like to see him become way more interactive with patrons.

well, I believe that is what forums are for, discussion... I am 100% sure that you can not win "which is what these elite athletes are trying to do every time they tee it up" without putting great, period. Statistics are beneficial, in my opinion, to give me feedback on what I need to work on. that is why after every round I go through FIR, GIR, and putts... and I know if I chipped well, then after my round and my drink with my buddies I go to the practice area and work on it.

Personally I find this to be a very sad statement and an unfortunate reflection of professional golf at present.  The vast majority of us rooted for and followed these players for years.  A good many still do no matter where they play. It's unfortunate folks have so personalized and politicized the LIV tour.

Going out on a limb here and guessing Patrick Cantlay has a power tool collection in his man-cave/shop that would make Tim Allen green with envy.  I cannot ever recall seeing another DeWalt sponsored player.
