bens197
A slight reversal here but I have to ask the gallery. Anyone have experience with the Dyla Grip? The reduced taper was appealing. I love the idea of the added length for more controlled shots where you can choke up. I have an idea that I’m considering and I’d like your thoughts in general before I take action. Popular Post aguybadatgolf
Just had my first lesson on my road to break 80. The instructor was great and we started with some pitches and chips. She noted how well and consistently I was controlling the spin, with a few small tweaks in set up. That’s not something I could say before and think most of the credit goes to the S159 wedges. This is something I was really hoping to see out the wedges and I’m not disappointed. The MicroMax grooves and friction face Ping advertise on their site might be more than marketing speak. Popular Post johngschulz
Happy Easter folks My S159 are scheduled for delivery on Tuesday and I can show off the first wedge in the midnight finish to everyone during my unboxing post. I traveled down to Tampa, FL for the holiday weekend to celebrate with the in-laws. Since we flew Southwest down, I used a free checked bag to bring down an old set to its new retirement home so I can play more easily when we visit Florida. In my backup bag I included my Vokey SM6 52* and 56*. Our first stop was Clearwater Beach I spent some of my time hitting balls out of the sand practicing my bunker shots. I took some appreciation photos for their new home, they’ll continue serving me whenever I can get away from family events down here to play! Popular Post johngschulz
The time has arrived, the Ping S159 unboxing... I was out of town over the Easter weekend visiting my wife's family, so I delayed the FedEx shipment until I was back home. The delivery arrived today, and after getting the completed delivery notification I had to frantically wrap up my meeting so I could get the box off the porch! As everyone has noted so far, the packaging was good, the entirety of the contents are seen below. As you can see, the wedges arrived with simple padded covers on the heads for packaging. In the box were the three wedges held together with a few rubberbands, the packing slip and pink tag for each wedge with the specifications. Each wedge head was wrapped in plastic each with a sticker with the QR code and the words "FIND YOUR GRIND". When scanning the QR code, the link provided brings you to the Ping WEBFIT WEDGE web application our testers used to help decide the grinds they wanted for their wedge orders. First impressions I have to agree with everyone's opinions so far. They. Look. Great! I tested out the wedges at a Golf Galaxy before deciding on the wedge specification I wanted to order for the testing. Of note, the wedges felt a little light for my liking off the rack, when specifying my build I made sure to ask for D4 swing weights across the board and they already feel better to me. For my wedges I went with two of the chrome finishes with Hydropearl 2.0 for the 54* and 58* and because I have Maltby wedges and irons with the dark finish I opted for midnight for the 50* so I could compare the two. I really wanted to give the Hydropearl 2.0 finishes a go after reading about previous generation performance here https://mygolfspy.com/labs/2022-wet-wedge-test/. @bens197 also noted this testing in an earlier post. After seeing the midnight finish more closely in person, I have to say I almost wish I went with midnight across the board. The dark finish looks great, and I love that they kept the dark theme for the PING branding on the back of the wedge, as well as the paint fill on the bounce number. I'll get some more photos comparing the finish to my Maltbys' later. This past weekend I played a round with my old Vokeys when I was down in Florida. I was all over the place off the tee, but didn't miss often with my wedges. There was definitely less action that I'm used to and had to play for a bit more roll out especially on anything less than a full swing, I'm excited to see what the new grooves will do! I can definitely tell that the leading edge of the PING S159s are quite a bit straighter than the more rounded edges of my Vokey SM6s, and my Maltbys and I like the look at address, but won't be able to tell how much of a difference it will have until I get some reps in. New Grips! Much like wedges, I hear you're supposed to change your grips pretty often too. I went with the PING Dylawedge Lite grips for the light taper and the longer grips. Off the bat I definitely prefer the material of the PURE grips I have on the gamers, but after giving them a quick wipe down to get all the factory and cardboard dust off they feel a lot better. I was definitely gripping all up and down the wedges this weekend for a variety of shots, so I'm interested to see how the longer length and less taper feels when I get to play with these around the greens. I might end up switching out the grips and just building out the lower half for a less taper at the end of testing if I keep the wedges and still am iffy on the Dylawedge Lite grips. I'm looking forward to getting the testing underway and getting photos and numbers comparing my current gamers to the S159s. It's going to be fun on a bun!
