revkev
I saw this tread title and got scared, very scared, until I turned to it. Having written that being allowed to dress like Bieber is in that pic would go a long way to helping grow the game among younger people. Of course it would also keep the next generation of dermatologists busy. revkev
Wow dear god - that would make the country club set twitch. Suppose it might help get younger ladies playing? Ah well keep him over that side of the Atlantic please I think that there will be for the foreseeable future a place for the Country Club, Private Club type of golf that many are accustomed to. For the most part those places are sustainable because they are generational. I was thinking far more about public venues, the places where people learn to play, the ones that at times are Country Club wanna be's when they're not. I've posted it before but I play regularly at three courses. One is a club that offers me a limited clergy membership. I'm very grateful and enjoy playing there very much. It once hosted an LPGA event and has a very nice and well maintained, if not overly difficult track. It's close to my house, has a reasonably well maintained practice facility, a very personable staff, I'm very happy playing there and eating there and on occasion drinking there, too. Another is a semi-private type place. I practice there because it is a great practice facility. With a couple of exceptions the staff is terrible, it puts on aires of being a faux private club that I don't like very much and the folks that play there can be the same as the staff at times. It did host a PGA event so it's a good course that's generally in good shape but it is not up to its attitude. I think it represents much of what we complain about in these types of threads. The third is my league course. It is a muni's, muni, one of the heaviest played courses in the country. The dress code is shirt and pants, shorts can't be too short, no metal spikes, beyond that they don't care. They cater to women, juniors, leagues, the common Joe, it's amazing how good the course is given the amount of play that it gets particularly the greens, there are four sets of tees all of which make sense and the staff makes you feel like you are at home. It is everything that is right with trying to grow the game and get new, younger and different players. I'm sure the only reason why they don't allow the Bieber look is because in the Florida sun it would be incredibly dangerous. westy
Think were in agreement Rev, interestingly when I go to the old courses now round me (often well over 100 years and not that cheap) all I hear is how they want to be more inclusive - but they are struggling to get things through committees to make it happen. My local muni, which I regard highly, has a very limited code for the par 3 course and a slightly stricter code for the full course (actually similar to the course I'm a member at). So jeans and trainers are fine on the par 3 course - for those starting out (some sort of top is certainly required!) that's great, no major outlay as they'll lend you clubs. I think it would be good to have some young celebs playing and talking about it; in the uk golf is seen (often wrongly) as the preserve of the middle age tv star and the soccer player - that is not helping participation. Anything that grows the game is good but hey pop a shirt on. BIG STU
All in favor of shipping him back to Canada? You got my vote on that one too. I personally did not have anythiing against him untill the Florida incident. You know you go to someone's home or business you go by their rules. In years past I went to Canada numerous times and went by their rules and laws. If he wants to come back to the good old USA he needs to follow our laws and regulations and behave respective. Give him 1 more chance if he screws up again ban him permantly from the USA no concerts etc. Maybe Canada will ship him to Iraq they will handle him there!!!
