I'm still a hair mixed with my 10K. I will have rounds or spells when it is absolutely perfect, and then rounds like yesterday where I get a dead hooking ballflight that only goes ~220yds. It's definitely me and not the club, but I'm wondering if something magically happens when you drop below a certain swing speed. I've been focusing a lot on contact with my other clubs and so wonder if that has taken SS down a notch on course.

I'm back on the swing speed training, so we will see if that changes things for the better. I am a bit tempted to buy a Tour 2.0 Chrome shaft and see if it performs differently.

I'd look at spin; especially when you drop swing speed.  My guess is that influences your delivery which reduces spin which creates the snap hook ballflight.

Is putting the one part of scoring stats that has not benefitted from the last 20 , 30, yrs of tech & fitting?

Putting has, but measurements take longer to assess.   People want benefits to show up in one round, but with putting the measurement needs to occur over a season.  If you read the book Lowest Score Wins,  they categorize areas of the game that help separate players (https://lowestscorewins.com/separation-value) and putting falls near the bottom.   Think about a 3 foot putt;  you can practice them all day every day but you probably won't make significantly more than someone that never practices them.  As for tech and fitting,  they have shown improvement in putting.   There is better understanding of launch angle, that the face is the influence for ball direction and path has minimal influence,  that there are stroke categorizations and they have specific putter configurations that benefit the player,  you can measure how different putter configurations influence ball direction.    Unfortunately most people dismiss anything putter tech with the response that it is a small slow stroke and it doesn't matter or that they are a "feel" player.    I believe this response goes back to my first statement.

You’re right, but I’m still trying to figure it all out. Thats why I used the Haney today. But honestly looking at it all again I can basically relive the whole round when looking at that. The more I think this through, the more I realize how much more useful ShotScope is/will be.

ShotScope metrics get very deep; which is why I stopped using them....way too much detail than I needed at my game level.   If you haven't already,  start reading the shotscope user group on the forum and ask questions,  lots of people that can help you understand the stats being displayed.

I just got  ShotScope x5 but only have 3 rounds and still trying to figure all of those numbers mean. So I’m looking forward to really deep diving into my game and breaking it all down.

I think before the Tiger 5, I’m gonna do the Haney 3 until those become very solid! Lol

Currently from what I can tell I give up a lot on approaches which results in me scrambling to get up in down. That’s why I love the little par3 course at RTJ Hampton Cove. I play the closest and second closest tees 2xs a week to work on this. I don’t tee the ball up so it feels more like it would hitting a second or third shot on a big course. My other weakness would be off the tee with a driver, right now I’m lucky to find anything 15 yards away from the fairway.

I get what you are saying with the assessment, I need to start doing this better! Thanks!

If you are doing ShotScope,  you don't need to do the Haney or Tiger metrics;  it is covered in ShotScope performance details.

Thanks.  So it is basic course management.  At the risk of sounding like a wise ass though, did we really not know this before Elrdrick?  "Drive for show, putt for dough"  comes to mind.  So does "Take your medicine and avoid a bigger number".

Kind of helps assess if you have course management issues, doesn't tell you how to do course management.   Course Management for amateurs really came into the forefront with Mark Brodie's book.  We also see younger professionals getting better with course management.    If we as amateurs understood course management we wouldn't aim at pins,  we wouldn't hit hero shots,   we would hit the ball as far as possible off the tee, etc.

That does makes sense to me also, but I guess my problem was how do I put that in away I can “see” it be the problem. I am a dummy and need to see the proof (this is not a good thing in most cases), but while the proof is there with those sayings, I could say it was somewhere else or I needed to work on this or that. This doesn’t directly point at what the problem is but it shows me aspects of a game. Also gives me a smaller goal to reach that helps towards the bigger goal. Sorry if that doesn’t make a lot of sense. All in all, I’m hard headed and sometimes need a million things to say the same thing before I believe it.

You could start doing detailed stat tracking to better understand where  your weaknesses are.  The stat tracking systems will give you strokes gained for tee shots, approach game, short game, and putting.  It will also break down your performance by club.

If you do the Tiger 5 you still have to do some assessment of why those things happened.   I played 9 holes yesterday and I had 2 doubles, 1 blown easy save, and 3 bogeys inside 150.  My notes were penalty off the tee,  hero shot instead of pitching out,  and wedge play 60-100 yards.   The wedge play wasn't due to bad course management, they were just poor shots and I need to work on hitting my wedges better.

How do you currently understand/"see" where you need to improve?

You’re really honing in on my choice of words Chris!  😂 Fair.  Optically it’s different, especially given the setup and the hosel difference. And the main feel difference is in the transition from the insert of the Odyssey’s to the milled face of the Edel, which I neglected to mention in that last post.

Thanks for the clarification;  sounded like you were feeling a difference in how the putter moved through the stroke since you were describing things like the neck and toe hang.     The question would then be if the visual and feel elements are just subjective things or if they have an influence on performance.  Based on your numbers you seem to be getting better results; which is good.  Wish we could translate it to see if the improved aim also improves your face at impact consistency.

Those torque numbers ARE high, particularly for fairway wood shafts! I spoke with Angelo about exactly that yesterday, and he said that he would ask their “tech guys” to check into it to see if the numbers were correct.

Didn't you measure the driver shafts?  How'd they compare to the listed values?

That is true, I didn’t think about that. That ring definitely needs to be bigger for me! Just a question tho, what is it in their practice I wonder or is that the practice or round?

That is round data since it is captured via shotlink.  I haven't seen any actual numbers for pros dispersion during practice for anything other than driver.   Here is Rory and JT hitting one hundred 148 yard shots to make a hole in one.  You can see their dispersion pattern and percentages on how close the shots were.

Here is some data from Lou Stagner showing amateurs hitting 110 yard shots during practice.

I’m going from a face-balanced (0 toe hang) ballet with a single bend neck and 3 degrees of loft to 44 degrees of toe hang, slant neck, 1.5 degrees of loft and 2 degrees upright.  It feels like a big change, but I’m getting comfortable quickly.

Interesting that you "feel" the change.   Makes me think you are trying to manipulate the putter during the stroke.   What do you focus on (hands, head, face angle, something else?) when you are making a stroke?

On my 'unable to golf because of issues front, I now have a "consultation" date in about 10 days. There we will discuss things and stuff and then set another date further into the summer for me to get repaired. I am wound too tight to sit and fidget while waiting for the days to pass. My wife is going to be cranky and I am going to have to wear that responsibility like a jacket.

Hope they get you repaired sooner rather than later.  Definitely tough not being able to do things.

Do these do their job automatically or do I have to bring up the extension?

Automatically.  They will filter ads on all websites unless you turn it off or exclude the site.  I never see ads on my laptop;  I need to get an adblocker for my ipad.

This weekend I focus more at the range  on the 100 yard shot, 125 yard and 135 yard shot by picking a flag or target to hit at. My goal will be to hit within 8/10 shots within 10 feet of each target.

Not judging,  but if your expectation is to hit 8/10 shots from each of those distances to 10 feet you might be setting expectations a little high.   Maybe if you are doing block practice but it still seems to be an aggressive goal.

    PGA Tour proximity from fairway:

    • 100: 18' 5"
    • 125: 21' 5"
    • 135: 22' 6"

For those who are using either Haney or tigers stuff what is your plan to abide by them?

example what’s your plan/strategy to avoids double bogeys.

or what are you doing to avoid three putts.

And to follow up on that if the plan is to improve the swing to reduce the number of bad shots, what are you using to determine what you need to fix/work on?

They are simply numbers to track as a trend.     I use post round analysis to determine what my issues were during the round and where I need to work.    For example if I had multiple 3 putts I look at why.    Generally my issue is short game related and my primary focus for improvement.   I don't personally think I need detailed stat track for my skill level; simple notes on the round is plenty.

Currently in the market for a new gap wedge. Right now I'm a mid-handicapper (17) but improving consistently. Swing speed is on the slower end of the spectrum across the board. I play Ping i500 irons with Elevate 95 R Flex TSS shafts. I have a 56 degree vokey sm8 s grind 10 bounce that I got used last season that unfortunately does not have any labels on the shaft. I have absolutely loved the vokey 56 degree since getting it, especially out of the sand and open face shots, but am also very comfortable with it from anywhere about 60 yards and in off fairway or out of the rough.

I'm looking for a gap wedge that will primarily be used for full swing shots in between my Ping i500 PW (90-110 yards) and vokey sm8 56 degree (45-65 yards). Trying to decide between staying consistent with irons and getting the Ping i500 UW (50 degree loft) with Project X IO 5.5 flex shaft or getting the vokey sm9/sm10 50 degree f grind or cleveland rtx zipcore 6 50 degree with custom shaft choice.

Any guidance on shaft options based on my game would be great!

since you plan on using it for full wing shots the general suggestion would be to get the i500 UW with the same shaft as your irons.

I just bought a Shot Scope H4, and really like it so far after three rounds. I'm wondering what the screen is made of, and whether some sort of screen protector should be applied to prevent scratches due to tapping the tags every shot. Any advice, and has anyone found proper size screen protectors?

Yes it will get scratched.   https://www.amazon.com/IPG-Protector-Invisible-Guard-Smooth-Self-Healing/dp/B09YRZZKC9
