Jmikecpa Posted May 23, 2014 Share Posted May 23, 2014 While sitting in my office yesterday I get a text from my boss asking what my handicap was.....I answered and then got a call from him a few minutes later. For some reason we are going to sponsor some of the tournaments in NY State this year and they want someone affiliated with the company to play in them........and that someone turns out to be me. My first apprehension was that I really have not played much competitive golf over the last few years so getting back into that mode has been on my mind and I actually decided that this year was not going to be the year I got back to it; however the offer is just not worth saying no to. What's in it for me? First, the company will cover all expenses and fees for travel, caddy, lodging and entry fees. Second, my corporate card is mine to use for balls, equipment, new bag, practice rounds, etc. Third, it is just the kick in the backside that I need to get back to playing tournament golf again. My first event with be on June 9th and a 200 person pro-am event with one round of medal play. My wife was amazed when I told her that it only took me 37 years to figure out how to get paid to play golf and also not have to pay for equipment. The one part she is not realizing though is how much golf I will actually be playing over the next several months.......but hey it is now part of my job. She looked at it and it just seems like a muscle pull and suggested a massage and some rest. So I am booking a massage and some time lounging in the hammock out back. Does not appear to be more than a muscle issue, but the pop that I felt is a concern hence the MRI. Surprisingly he said I can start hitting balls as soon as I can and start out slow and progress. Loosen up every day slowly and especially before playing or practicing. Get or build you a weighted club and swing it every day if only in the morning before going to work and at night. I have been doing this for a year religously. the last 2 weeks have been hell for me and I got away from my routine and yesterday I felt it when I played. I did not swing hard did not want to injure myself but I was not turning on the ball either. this morning I went back on my routine and I am already feeling looser. You are getting at the age when muscles start to tighten up if not streached I know from experience. I really do not plan to change what I am playing right now but do need to get some pics up since I pretty much rolled my bag over from last season. On the plus side I am getting a reimbursement for the AP2's that I bought a few weeks back so that is a nice thing. I have a weighted driver to hit balls and a weighted 8 iron that I can just swing. The odd part is that I have never really had any back issues considering all the sports that I played into my early 30's.
