Mr. 82
I've honestly stopped trying to pick winners for Tour events. You might as well throw everyone's name in a bowl and pick someone at random. Usually it's the guy that is dropping 20 footers for birdie who is in contention on Sunday that wins. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw another guy I've never heard of win again this week, like last week with that Champ fella. Golfspy_CG2
The above is very good. But the undercover lesson with Sean Foley is very good. Its a 30 minute of him and Foleys discussion during a lesson. It ends with alternating the launch and trajectory of his drives. He hits a few with 188 ball speed and 5 or degrees of loft that carry about 290 but roll around 40 yards. Then ups his launch to about 10 degrees and carries it 325 almost hitting a worker at the end of the ramge. Then Foley tells him how Tiger used the stinger for so many majors. Champ then goes back to a 5 defeee launch at 194 ball speed. Never gets higher than 75 feet or so and carries 302 with about 45 yards of roll out. He says “yeah i like that shot”Its going to be fun to watch this kid on tour this year. Mr. 82
Put Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Cantlay in the same group and you’d have an 8 hour round of golf. Doesn’t matter that they reduced the size of the field to 132. With these two guys alone you don’t have enough daylight to finish a round of golf, even if they teed off at sunrise. Mr. 82
Just an observation from Deachambeau’s group from TV. Lucas Glover looked like he was ready for a stiff drink and serious medication for that meltdown he had over the closing stretch. Peter Uehlein blew up like a balloon today and shot himself way out of contention. Both were paired with Dr take forever to pull a club and crunch the numbers on how many blades of grass are growing in one direction versus the other. It’s one thing to have a strategy and game plan for a round of golf, but frankly I think when you intentionally or unintentionally play so slow as to cause your playing partners to lose focus from their game and cause their games to go south, we have a problem. Again, I wasn’t there, and didn’t play in this group, but I think the PGA Tour really needs to step in here and do something about this sort of nonsense. Golfspy_CG2
All this talk about slow play. Yet they routinely play in four hours. Golf just seems slow when you are only watching it and not playing. If it was really as big of issue as some make it out to be, the TV Networks that pay hundreds of millions for the rights and have prime time programming in the mix would complain to the Tour. Then you’d see actions. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy This is just my $0.02, but if you want to win on the PGA Tour, you need to be able to deal with more adversity than being paired with someone who plays slow. You just need to block it out, and stay in your game and out of BD's. And, I don't think that Glover or Uehlien's meltdowns had anything to do with BD. I think they are both inexperienced when it comes to playing near the lead on Sunday, and it showed. I would wager, that if Justin Thomas was in the group with BD, that he would be able to keep the mental strength to play well down the stretch. And I bet the perceived slow play, wouldn't bother him at all. On on a side note, BD had to wait forever on 18 because of Glover, and he still hit the shots he needed to win. I was a business major because (1) that's where I knew I wanted to live my professional life, and (2) I didn't have the intellect needed to be a STEM major. However, at the time, had I known that some day golf would be a passion and had there been a DeChambeau in the professional ranks, perhaps, I would have tried a "Physics" class at the risk of a negative impact on my GPA. Now when watching the "Driver vs, Driver" and the COR is discussed or the impact of moving a weight around the club, I have no idea about what they are technically talking. Then, I guess it should also be remembered, that at the time, clubs were called "woods" because the club heads were actually made of wood.
