HighFade
I just learned a valuable lesson today. We got a light snow last night so there was no chance of hitting the links despite the warmer weather today. So I’ve been hitting my sim this morning. After about 50 balls or so, this happened. Then it occurred to me I’ve been storing my golf balls in the garage. Depending on the season, temps in there range from -5° to over 100°. That’s not too good for a golf ball. Word to the wise: store your golf balls in the house! There is no spoon. robertson153
I keep my clubs and balls on my cart in a cart shed at my course. I’ve never had a problem with clubs or balls. Temps range from 100-0. palvord
Welp. I may need to actually reconsider my storage. fixyurdivot
My clubs and balls stay in the garage when in MT which is heated and rarely gets below 20F even when it's -30F outside. One of the guys I golf with here in Yuma purchased a bunch of practice balls and gave everyone in the group a box full. I was going to leave them here in the storage shed, but temps can get well above 120F in summer - not sure if that will be as detrimental? txgolfjunkie
I know the extreme temps can cause the epoxy to break-down but I've never seen that happen to golf balls. What kind of Titleist is that? I'd post that on Twitter and see if their customer service can help you out. That seems a bit strange that a ball would crack like that. Then again, I'm not accustomed to temps below freezing. cnosil
While temperatures do impact the epoxy in clubs and may impact a balls performance it probably wouldn’t cause the ball to break. That said, it has been shown that repeatedly hitting balls into a net or screen will cause them to break more frequently Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017
MaxEntropy
^^^^ What he said. Just like most materials made from rubber/polymers, there are optimal temperature conditions for use. Even if the balls are stored cold, the temperature cycle shouldn't affect performance much once they warm up. Even then, they would have to be used while really, really cold to just break like that due to temperature alone. Something similar happened to me on the course once, with a Wilson/Staff ball. They sent me replacements because it was apparently a manufacturing defect.
