mudfish
As I'm reading these threads I find myself "asking what do these people do?" and how old you are too... I'm 32 and I've been a high school Biology teacher for the last 9 years... I teach in a not so great community, and over the years I've had some great students and some terrible students... I've had students that have Super Bowl rings, and students in jail for murder... plus numerous other stories that I think are funny, but most people are disgusted... Overall I love my job, and although there are some rough kids (maybe 10%), the good kids by far make up for them... Watching them walk across the stage is a great feeling... So what do you do? It was nice to get back to college level instruction. Plus I like the mission of the community college. It's a second chance for some and a way to save some money before transferring to a 4-year school for others. Plus, in that past four years, I have not made a single parent phone call. You are a lucky man to be able to move through your 20's with a real income. I bagged $12K/year as a grad student for most of my 20's. Nice work! I can't take all of the credit thought cus my Dad is the president but after working as an intern I found myself in a new position after there was no need for my job and then I still found myself with a job after a current lay off. i guess working hard really does pay off since I am the youngest in the company but I still have managed to keep my job even though I could of lost it. It helps that I enjoy what I do but to be honest I never thought I would want to sell insurance at the age of 21. Popular Post MmmmmmBuddy
Alright, I'll tell. I work at one of the largest on-course Golf Pro Shops in the US. I have been employed there as a Club Fitter and Sales Manager for the last 7 years. Before that, I was an Assistant Professional at a small 9 hole course for 6 years. I have been working in the Golf Industry full time since 1995. MGS is one of the places that I like to come to to get current information. You would be surprised how many times I would read something about a new product on MGS, and mention it to a sales rep, and they haven't got a clue about it. I guess i am a geek all the way. I have been depolyed twice and would not trade the experience for anything. I really like this board so far, hopefully we can keep it growing with good people. Two things: 1) no wonder you say you don't get to play much golf....you're in the golf business (LOL) and 2) I remember when I was in retail and kept up with equipment too.....I had the same experience -- those guys never knew about what was coming down the line until pretty close to launch. Guess they were too busy pushing the current product, lol. We got some things in common. I worked retail golf, and also spent my time working at courses and clubs as the counter jockey. JohnBarry
O boy, here I go: I am a National Sales rep and Inside Sales Manager for Fashion Brand House. I work and have worked, mostly in the Urban Clothing business for the past 10 years, but we now own some more contemporary lines like Antik Denim and Taverniti Jeans. I sell goods into Saks, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, to Down Town Locker Rooms, Up Against the Walls (which we own), Planet Funks(which we just bought) to the smallest "mom and pop" urban and contemporary stores and boutiques. I run inside and outside sales reps, but over the years as we have gone from 14 employees to 95 now (not counting retail stores), I do some production work, a lot of marketing, consulting, trending and forecasting, sales, managing, to setting up our Clothing Shows. I also run a golf blog, am the President of our Local Golf Club, and a member of the YSC (Youth Services Club of Virginia) I strive to be the golf business someday, but it's going to be on my terms, my company and my outside the box thinking that will propel it to succeed. Just an idea but maybe a casual yet classy golf clothing line. I always like to watch Ryan Moore on the course becasue he looks so caual but still looks like he knows how to play. I am not a fan of the Puma line but they seem to be the only company that makes that Casual look. mcbush25
That must be a rough one sometimes. Hopefully your job will get more and more positive as the economy gets better. The unfortunate thing is even if the economy gets better my job will still be busy. There are a lot of people out there that aren't really affected by layoffs and other issues...they just merely spend way too much money on unnecessary items when they need to pay their bills. It's unfortunate, but you have to be honest with those people and try to get them straightened out.
