"reactivate bluetooth"  a quirk easily solved by the standby fix - hard reboot of the watch. Their version of the PC fix of CTL-ALT-Del.

He is dead on with this suggestion, although I think it was PhilM75072 who 1st convinced me to give it a try. It is eerily similar to the Windows restarting trick to clear up various performance issues. Hopefully it won't have to be done periodically; it's a bit of a pain. You'll have to reinstall the latest firmware update and set up the X5 again as if it were new. But it worked wonders for me!

When I got home, I opened the SS app on my phone, activated bluetooth on the watch (G3), and did the updates on the courses showing "update available" - which did include all 4 courses here.  I also double checked the physical address of the course in case there was another Cimarron somewhere (it was correct). There have been no layout changes tee to green on any of the courses... so why the need to update?  Is it adjusting satellite coordinates?

One of the problems I had with the H4 was that courses weren't recognized even though they showed as being on the device.   When I contacted support, they "updated" the course which enabled me to download the course and add it to the device so it could be found.

Plus, whatever changes the course made have to be reflected in Google's aerial views. I believe Google is what Shot Scope uses for mapping. My home course is currently being renovated, enlarging tees, creating a new tee on one hole, and replacing all 18 greens. Many of those greens are being enlarged by as much as 30% they claim. Who knows when we will see an update by Google for use by Shot Scope for re-mapping.

Interesting.  I was able to find and load all of our courses and they seemed to be working fine since we arrived last September.  One did have a par 4 that SS showed as a par 3.  I sent them an email this past spring and they resolved it.  I updated that course and it was corrected.

The yardage oddities yesterday was the first time I'd seen anything of that magnitude.  Many of the folks here have range finders and I often compare there number against my G3.  It's rare that I'm not within a few yards.

I'll share what I hear from SS.

Those guys are super responsive and will update by the following day.  They are based in the UK, so give appropriate work schedule lag.  SS support is super!

FYI, if you are an X5 user and don't see dogleg information for the course you are playing, email them to remap it.  It's using old data without the dogleg detail.

It may not be related to you;  the not loading would be device specific.  They have to make an "update" for someone to be able to download and that change will show as an update for everyone.

I'm currently on a 4-day golf trip. On Day 1, after playing 18 holes, my watch battery was at 4 percent. I charged it overnight, and the next day, before my tee time, I putted and chipped for an hour. I started my watch to acquire the satellite 15-20 minutes before my tee time, and it was locked on GPS & track for roughly 4 hours and 30 minutes. I expected the battery to be at 50-55% remaining, but was it? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I do not quite understand. You said "I expected the battery to be at 50-55% remaining, but was it?".  Are you saying it was within that range, or was it something else?

V3 or X5? Reason being that I found on occasion the charging clip on my V3 didn't seat completely  - I always had to check the display to make sure it was charging.  If either V3 or X5, as @Paul Hedrick mentioned what was the battery % at the end of the round? I found both the V3 and X5 to have any where from 45-50% left after 18.

No I’m saying after my 18 holes my battery was at 4%. I would expect that it would be at 50%.

That's unusual - do you have the latest firmware update? My X5 is generally in the mid to high 40% range after 18 and that's using all of the functionality including hazard distances and scoring.

It was charged to 100% when I put it on. However, it was roughly 6 hours before I started my round (We had a four-hour drive to the resort). When I started my round, it was closer to 85%.

I avoid turning it on til I actually get to the course - especially if I've got a distance to drive. My concern is that the watch will be searching for a gps signal in the car resulting in battery drain. That may not be your battery issue but possible.

Yes, I have the latest firmware, and yes, it is unusual. I'm playing 36 holes today and will have my battery pack to charge between rounds. I will provide an update after today’s outing.

I understand; I had to wear the X5 to ensure I didn't leave it behind while traveling with a group of players, golf bags, and luggage. Since I intended to use it as an off-course watch, I didn't expect the battery drain to be a big deal (I usually wear my older Garmin as my everyday watch. However, I didn't bring it on this trip).

No I’m saying after my 18 holes my battery was at 4%. I would expect that it would be at 50%.

Mine usually lasts for two rounds.  It seems to take about a week to drain if idle, but haven't really tested it.

I completed 36 holes today. Following the first round, my battery was at 41%. I used my power pack to charge my X5 before the second round, and it dropped to 31% upon completing my round. Unfortunately, it seems my watch cannot handle two rounds of golf on a single charge.

I turn mine on roughly an hour before tee time, use it unlocked (no scoring, no pin reminder) and usually have 60% battery left when I get home and put it on the charger. Of course, we play in under 3 hours, and it is only a 15-minute drive from the course.

I have read thru almost all of the posts and no one has mentioned the issue of playing the back 9 first. We play M/WF and usually at least one of the rounds start on #10. That poses an issue of changing the starting hole as well as bypassing the “end round” and continuing on hole #1. This is fairly frustrating.

Anyone else have to deal with this?

Yup - here in Ohio , one of the courses I play has you starting on #10. I advance the watch to 10 and then BEFORE I get off the green on #18 I toggle back to #1. If you wait til after you get off the green  the menu takes you to end round.

On our course in Florida it's even more complex as the course is broken into 3 separate 9's. Which by itself is not a problem because at the end of the first 9 it'll ask if you want to play the 'back'. What exacerbates it is when we have a shotgun start.

That seems like a reasonable workaround, but .. and I haven't looked .. after #18 is there an option within the Game menu to "Continue Round?"..?

Hi spies.  I did get a reply from SS on my inquiry a last Friday but just that they are quite busy at present, hadn't forgotten about me, and would respond soon.  So today while playing Cimarron, I wrote down all the tee marker yardages and what my G3 was showing.  Sure enough, there is a more than noise level amount of discrepency.  I marked down both the blue and white tee numbers (a few only had one or the other).  I plan to do this at our other three courses as well.

Following the round, I stopped in an discussed this with the pro shop manager. He said our course markers had been "verified" in the past couple of years but thinks there might be a difference between GPS device yardages and how the on-course measurements are made.  He made a copy of my scorecard and said he'd look into it further.  He asked if I happened to check any approach yardages between my G3 and a ranger finder.  I hadn't but do have a Bushnell ProXe and will check during my round at Granite Falls South tomorrow.

At the bottom of the card, you'll see numbers 'M' (marker) and 'W' (watch) for both blue and white tees. I'll create a spreadsheet to share with SS, but you can see that a good many are off by 20+ yards.  And yet about 5 are nearly spot on 🤔.  Not that my game prowess demands yardages in the +/- 3 yard accracy but I don't want to start not having confidence in my G3.

Have any of you checked your watch device readings against tee markers and/or range finder at courses you play regularly?

Interesting data. I don't check the yardages and especially don't rely solely on GPS - FMB when I start getting about 150 yds in. At that range and in, I'll use the LRF.

Yea, it has my attention.  Something is not jiving. Here's the spreadsheet for Cimarron.  It will be interesting to see what the other courses look like and how approach numbers compare to the range finder.

GPS and course measurments are going to differ. Some more than others, especially any dogleg holes. When they measure a course the measure from marker to center of fairway then to green, not in a straight line. If the GPS and laser measurements differ then there is an issue, however I wouldn't worry about overall yardages.

Interesting.  I was reading this when I saw your post; makes sense.  It's saying that tee markers are from that location to either front or center of the green, and along a path from tee to center fairway then to front/center of green.  I knew the not in a straight line piece but not that some might be to front of green.  Pretty sure most all courses I 've played are center green yardages.  In any case, that explains why the par 3 numbers were pretty spot on - short, straight line.

I think checking more of my approach numbers against the range finder will be the best way to know how the G3 is really working.
