If you have all the shafts, you should alternate them on the course and see which does best. Range is one thing, on course is another. Don't get hung up on fairways. Main concerns with tee shots are no penalties and avoiding punch outs or other recovery shots. If you have a clear look at the green and hit it 250+ that was a good tee shot.

Unless the rough where you play is very penal... But in that case your choice is probably clubbing down to hybrid or driving iron.

That’s what I plan on doing. It’s a long process going out and playing and swapping shafts for each round. Lots of time to collect reasonable data

Sounds like a good excuse to get out and play more 😉

Not tournament legal, but you could swap after 9 holes to get a more direct comparison on the same day with similar swings.

i am only playing nine hole rounds. agreement with my better half. I will say, with my H4 coming in Saturday and the extra tags, it will make it easier to track the performances of each shaft

I have another 9 tomorrow where i will be at a course i can use my driver more. After that ill collect more on-course date with the Tensei white and see what that nets me. I did collect range data today. I think this is going to come down to the Ventus and the Tensei White. The feel is smoother with the Tensei and trajectory is flatter but the ventus just seems to have an extra burst. My face contact was better with the Ventus (not sweet spot but just low) and the White was toe sided. The blue had similar face contact as the White but felt looser and the dispersion was a lot more. I sort of want to get on course blue data but after today, I don't know how i could game it unless I smooth out my tempo more.

Describe flatter. Because depending on what you are describing it could be good or bad.

Compare what the ball does in the air which each shaft.

apex not as high as the ventus but the ball seems to hold its line and not fall out. TBH, i prefer the ventus launch so far as that plays more in wet and dry conditions here where carry is king.

Stop messing with the driver.  While not a lot of data to analyze, your problems lie elsewhere.   🙂

Sounds like the ventus is better overall as long as the ventus isn’t ballooning or knuckling.

Would be easier to see what’s going on with numbers but carry is always king because it can be relied on

I agree. I would focus on the swing and course management

The one with best dispersion unless you are giving up 30 yards. This will free you up on the course and possibly allow to hit driver on some tighter holes. You only need to average 250 off the tee to play scratch golf.  But you need to keep it in play.

... While that is true and the game is about accuracy 1st, today it is followed closely by distance. If I were starting out I would much prefer hitting it as far as I can and then learn to hit it accurately. Those of us that grew up with persimmon and balata did the opposite, we learned to keep the ball in play and then add distance, which is hard to do after grooving a tempo. Todays equipment allows you to swing as fast as you can control your ball. Obviously swinging out of your shoes with both left and right misses is a bad idea, but swinging as fast as you comfortably can if you have reasonable control will set you up to go low. I play with long hitting younger players that consistently have irons with their 2nd shot into par 5's or short irons into long par 4's when I am hitting mid or long irons.

I have tried a few stiff shafts, and they feel like I am swinging a 2x4  My SS is only 80 mph., regular flex keeps me on the fairway. Feel IS important to me! Can't play clubs that don't have a certain feel, no matter what they do for me. Feel is SO subjective to each individual. Play what YOU like...
