Nope... not even close.  Driver face shaving...LOL... I remember back when this whole concept hit the streets and golf was abuzz about it. Then the contest in various titanium alloys.  I even picked up a used Ti15-3-3-3 simply because it was among a handful of alloys we were trying some super-plastic forming tests on.  It sounded like .22LR and felt like glass .

Well yes I did, but when I saw the results I was extremely underwhelmed at the lack of improvement.

Agree. Sure seems like a big shift from MGS's founding tenets and persona.  But then, it may just reflect the realities of surviving in the golf business?  I don't think the core "Truth Digest" principle has been abandoned but rather the need for ancillary revenue streams.  And let's face it, making money, more often than not, triggers the want to make even more money. 

Back to the driver face shaving topic, I forgot to mention a story I heard (pretty sure it was factual) about a chemical line operator who worked at one of our subcontractors.  Apparently he lost his job because he was doing a chem-mask etch of his driver face.  This was during the days of fixed shafts.  Apparently things went as planned until the bond separated sending the head to the bottom of the tank. The things people will do for some additional carry distance .

My days of donating to support this site are done. I don't want my money going to crap podcast and videos, and to a site that has proven that it doesn't care about the forum or it's members. Let me be clear - this is not directed at our mods who do an amazing job given what they're handed. But this site overall has moved in a direction that I don't care for, and I'm no longer going to support it.

Well this thread took an unexpected turn. 

For what I thought was an interesting video on something I haven't really seen discussed or talked about (even though it is not a legal product). I never thought of looking into or at shaved driver faces and to me it was similarly along the lines of golf ball with no dimples and may it is just because of my profession I did find it interesting. Yes it was likely a plug for the company that does make those drivers, but still not something I was aware of. 

I get there are decisions not loved or liked by all, but in reality this is the type of content a lot of people are looking for to consume. Agreed in many cases not forum type people, but lets face it we are a different breed of consumer. We enjoy writing long form anything and we enjoy doing lots of reading. This is not to say we don't enjoy watching videos and so on, but we should recognize that there are a lot of people who simply wouldn't get involved in forum type media because of the effort it takes, the intimidation factor in some cases and well how our society typically consumes media... doomscrolling, quick hit videos and the shortest form of getting information across as possible. This is in most cases exactly the opposite of forum media.

Anyway rant over, take the video for what it is. A smallish deepdive into something I'm sure there are many that are curious about or better never knew about. I wouldn't read much more into it then that and in the end if the thread just keeps down the previous path I'll lock it up as it clearly isn't on the topic at hand. There are other threads to discuss those things if you so choose.

Oh ok I get it. Thread about MGS's socials threatening an expose on YouTubers that never appeared got locked, and now when you call out MGS videos for being clickbait the thread threatens to get locked. I see where this is going.

Definitely not what I said. I said that there are other threads to discuss that side of things if you so choose to. 

Again this could be a interesting topic for some, not all just like many. Simply trying to keep the topic at hand here for those who may be interested in this or talk about it. If it is just going to go down that rabbit hole and never touch base on the topic of the video there is little reason to have the thread up about video when it can be on another thread.

I could’ve worded mine better: I didn’t find the results as enlightening as the title of the video mentioned, so I was underwhelmed. I thought for sure there were going to be greater differences, and I certainly would’ve liked to have heard what the longest drives were by each driver. Averages are important at the end, but in this one I wanted the “long and short of it”! Ha! I’ve heard people shaving driver faces and “guaranteeing” more yards, and it appears this is true, on SOME strikes, but not all.

I would have liked all the data as well. How much longer were the longer hits.  Were they consistent for a certain tester or two or scattered throughout willy nilly.

Theres nothing wrong with a test that reveals that a long held belief is really much ado about nothing.

 

Thats what this seemed to prove.
