2023 SUNDAY GOLF BAG BUYER’S GUIDE

You don’t know it yet but you probably need a Sunday golf bag. Not just for Sunday but for every day of the week.

Do you spend every afternoon counting down the seconds until you can escape for a little golfing “me” time? Do you enjoy the occasional twilight nine under the setting sun? Do you love a quick round at a par-3 course? If so, you need a Sunday golf bag.

So what’s a “Sunday” golf bag and how is it different than what you’ve got now?

The parameters that define a Sunday golf bag have shifted drastically over the last decade. What was once a bare-bones, ultra-lightweight golf bag for a quick weekend nine has swiftly turned into a slimmed-down carry bag, although some have nearly as much storage and functionality as their heavyweight siblings. It is important to note, however, that not every Sunday bag is a stand bag, but that the addition of a stand has become more standard as of late in the Sunday golf bag category.

Even so, the DNA of a good Sunday bag hasn’t changed. The best Sunday golf bags of 2023 feature lightweight construction, comfortable carry straps and enough storage for the essentials.

Truth be told, finding a well-executed Sunday bag can be a tall task. The flood of new players in the Sunday bag game has created a myriad of options that can be hard to sift through without the right information so we’ve done all of the heavy lifting for you. We tested 12 Sunday golf bags and have determined the best fit for your game. You’re welcome.

I second that Sunday bags are great! And there are so many times where it’s nice playing without all 14 clubs. However, is there a wedge/putter bag that exists that can clip or attach to my larger bag? I’ve looked around Google a bit and I haven’t found anything that fits the bill.

I often get made fun of for bringing 2-3 wedges, an 8 iron, a hybrid and the putter with me for shots around a green I’m not familiar with or just can’t see from the cart. I thought a small bag that clips onto my larger bag would still allow me to get made fun of, but at least it would be quicker.

In college our team was in dead last through 2 rounds of the conference championship. Coach played a game with us for round 3 (final round) - one (1) stroke off for every club removed from the bag for the round, lowest score got triple food budget on the way home or something like that. Three of us pulled 6-7 clubs, one pulled 4, the last played with a full bag, and he didn't break 80! I recall pulling 6 or 7 clubs and shooting the team low 74 gross that round, best of the week. If you're familiar with a course pulling every other iron and one wedge and one wood shouldn't be too difficult. You just may need to adjust layup shots to avoid the pulled club yardage (i.e. hit it inside 90 yards or outside 120 if you pulled your 54 or gap wedge.

I read the review article and it wasn't obvious but any chance folks are aware of any on this list or others out there that have backpack style strap configuration so the bag sits upright like a backpack? I commute by bike for the most part and the swinging weight when carried like most stand bags is just dangerous haha

Picked up a Sunday Golf Loma xl. I like the versatility of it where it would not look strange anywhere I go from a Pitch and Putt to the driving range and even a normal course for a quick practice round.

I carry 7 clubs tops with them.
