Most Rewarding Golf Shots

Recommended Posts

In replying to a question about the wedges we carry … it occurred to me that my favorite club is my 56* because I get the most satisfaction from successfully executing the creativity it is capable of. The vast majority of our greens are sloped with inclines on the high side of the green … plus various bunkers bookending them. So once or twice a round I need to chip down to a green sloping away or at least a short sided pin … and it’s executing those shots that really makes me smile.

What are your most rewarding golf shots (successfully executing):
1) Very difficult chip shots.
2) Difficult recovery shots.
3) Nutting my driver.
4) One putting from 15+ feet.
5) GIR at the furthest distance I can reach … i.e.: my 3 wood is 210 … “can I get there from here?”
6) any 2-3 inch tap-in from an approach shot
7) GIR … “I’m putting”
😎 Any Shot on a beautiful day instead on being home mowing the lawn

I often think a Recovery Shot Tournament would be a lot of fun.

This is the correct answer! Short and to the point. Nothing better than thinking or talking yourself through a specific shot and executing it to perfection. Well said @cnosil!

Agree with @cnosil. If I am lucky I get about 1-2 of those a round. It is so rewarding seeing a drive do what you want to execute. Or a chip land and roll the way you want. Or an iron on a par 3 land on the green just where you want. I have also hit good shots that we’re not my intended target. They turn out really good and I take them. They are my most rewarding miss and validate my target selection.

Doesn’t really matter the shot.  Could be a drive, approach, pitch shot, or even a putt.

Any GIR feels pretty good to me.  Especially the ones that you dont deserve, punch shot out of the woods, recovery from a short/bad tee shot, fortunate bounce next to the green.

I agree with @cnosil about successfully executing the shot you envisioned.  For many, that doesn't happen as often as we'd like.

I'd like to throw a couple other ideas out:

Hitting the shot that no one thinks you can.  I was at a golf school with a two time major winner instructor.   On our introduction discussion, my friend said that I had a pretty good short game.  Her response was "I'll be the judge of that!"  After hitting balls in the morning, we'd head out and play 18 holes (nine with our instructor).  About two holes in, my ball is left of a the green, in somewhat deep rough and I was facing a green severely sloping green away from me down to the pin.  The friend and instructor didn't believe me that I was going to get up and down for par.  I popped ball up, the first cut deadened the ball and it trickled down for a tap in par.  Below is the hat I had signed by our instructor after we finished.

Hitting the shot that reminds that you never give up when faced with adversity:   Yesterday I dribbled one off of the tee into the rough on our 404 yard par 4 second hole.  Playing a modified Stapleford system format, many of my fellow competitors would have given up.  I told my cart playing partner I never give up.  I advanced a five wood out of the rough almost into the trees across the fairway.   I was 155 yards away, in the rough, hitting to a green that is well bunkered.  My cart partner said this will be a great par if you get up and down.  I hit a perfect 7 wood to the green and drained a 30 ft. putt for par.  My cart partner said "I told you!" and I replied "That's why you never give up!"

I really enjoy chipping and pitching. For what ever reason those are my most comfortable shots. It just feels really good to me to always have a good chance to par even if I didn’t have a GIR.

I'll say a shot that you struggled with, practiced, and became good at

Specifically for me the most rewarding is a GIR from a fairway bunker 100+ yards out. It's always been a shot I struggled with, used to basically be a hazard for me because I could only chunk it out like 20 yards. I worked on that shot a lot and even though I improved massively at them over the years I still appreciate it every time because I remember how impossible it used to seem

Might be silly to say, but my most rewarding shots are all the putts that drop.  Hearing the ball rattle around the cup is my most satisfying sound in golf.
