Anyone here use the jumbomaxs putter grip? Got a targeted add for the 13in counter balance putter grip and it definitely got my attention

I use the JMX Jumbo 17" putter grip on my AL-6 armlock putter. I really like the size and feel of that one. It has one large flat side, which works great for locking to my forearm. My only complaint is that it is wearing out at some of the seams from rubbing against all the other clubs in my bag (I've only had it installed for about 6 months). If I think of it, I'll take a photo of the wear and add it to this post. I don't know that it really helps with your targeted add, but good luck with the decision!

I have the JMX pistol pro blackout grip on one of my putters. I really like it.
I’m using the stock grip that came with my Odyssey Toulon putter for now but may switch that for the spare JMX pistol pro grip I have.

I have the wear marks on my super stroke grip. Kinda to be expected but still would like some more durability out of grips

Good info. Glad you're settling on a set-up that works for you.

What size did you end up with? For the STR8 grips I've only so far tested the Ultralite. I have Tour  and Wrap versions on their way to compare before I decide on full set.

I'm happy with a Tour Velvet Midsize Plus 4 on my lob wedge and plan to keep it on there, at least for the time being. I've beefed it up with a few extra layers of tape underneath and it feels good. For all the full swing clubs, I'll be getting STR8 grips at some point. It's just the size question. Amazon only had XS, M, XL when I've ordered, but I'll get hold of a Small to test out soon enough.

So the STR8 Tech only comes in the XS/M/XL sizes there aren't Small and Large sizes like on their tapered grips which I didn't realize initially. I've got the Medium size.  I used their sizing guide but since one of the questions was about how tightly you hold your current grip I started thinking (overthinking?) that it was probably based on the assumption that the person was using standard-sized grips and since I was using the MCC+4 in midsize with an extra bottom hand wrap it may not be that accurate.  So I contacted them through the website to ask and the reply I got was to go with the medium since small didn't exist and the XS would probably be too small based on what I wrote. (I'm also just now realizing that the person who responded to me was their VP and co-founder, so that's cool).

But the medium size is great. I've got an XL in their Tour (Tapered version) on my three wood, and the size is fine for me, but a) I really prefer the non-taper and b) while it works on a wood/driver, I think it would be too much on my irons.

Finally, w/r/t ordering, I've looked at them on Amazon and I think they were roughly $2/grip more so I've ordered either from Jumbomax  or Grips4Less. JumboMax gives you a discount if you order a full set of 13 (0.50/grip) and, as I've found out, customer service includes their executives. Grips4Less customer service was fantastic (had an issue with my order and they were incredibly helpful in getting it resolved) and their shipping is much faster. Arrived in 2 business days vs an average of about 5 on the orders I've placed with JMX.  Both of them have free shipping thresholds you hit with an order of like 7 grips (I'm a cheapskate with these things). Though I'm sure that is all largely dependent on where you're located (I'm in FL).

For those with these on the drivers/woods, have you had to make any adjustment in your swings?

After reading 4 pages, im seeing some mixed reviews on hand position,  wrist movement, etc.

Obviously the world of grips is something new to me, so forgive me if the questions seem trivial. With something so critical , im trying to understand better what will.be best when I decide to start changing them. The costs also is a concern because of the what-if parts associated with them.

Has anyone done, or know if stores even offer a grip fitting option?  I did read where someone mentioned bringing their 7i in for this.

I wondered the same when first looking into these and if they are it doesn’t seem to be advertised and easy to find. I am thinking the only thing would be to call local fitter and ask. Most the videos I saw about it are years old as well so maybe it didn’t really take off.

I've been using JumboMax grips since they first became available. At the time, they had a starter set of 2 grips. So I installed them on the clubs I use the most, the Driver and Sand Wedge. This resulted in more consistant contact and accuracy, so I quickly put JumboMax grips on all my clubs except the putter. Their putter grips are not big enough. (I use a SuperStroke 5.0)

My swing has not changed, other than the grips seem to allow for a looser grip, which does affect how the swing feels a little. The larger grip naturally helps prevent overturn (pulls left for a RH golfer). I have not really noticed that I change my swing to compensate, I just found that my left misses aren't nearly as big. I did have to get used to the size because it sits in my hands a little differently than a midsize grip (took about 6 swings).

As far as fitting goes, I do not/have not hear of grip fitting locations. I've only ever tinkered with grips myself and this is why I wanted to learn how to install with air. Air installed allow for almost zero chance of damaging the grips, so I can send them back if they don't work out. I also recommend purchasing from JMX directly. There are discount codes [10% off with code CMRGOLF10 (Youtuber that works with JMX)] and you can purchase and return one grip for free (no questions asked).

I'm sure there are other people in the forum who are seasoned JMX grip users who could help answer your questions also, but that's my response!

I’ve been toying with the idea of putting on Jumbo grips.  My most recent outing was abysmal at best.  I used to have Alien wraps (as a test) and they felt pretty good.  As I get older, the physical ailments get more pronounced and my swing gets messier.  I think I’ll regrip my woods with the Jumbo grips and give it a few sessions on the range.

Nice. People "assume" Amazon has the best price on things, and default to shopping there, but many times you can find the things you're looking for cheaper elsewhere online .. even books.

But back to the grips 😄 .. good luck with the STR8 Tech!

If you happen to have a big box store near you, you could check out the grip section and at least see / hold different grips in different sizes.

JumboMax has a fairly generous return policy .. eg order a set, try ONE and if you don't like it return them all for a refund.

Bottom line .. sizing guides are only a starting point - nominal size, taper / reduced taper, rubber / compound, texture / wrap / cord, etc etc are very personal preference!

Good morning , I have begun to use the Jumbo max Zen lite standard  jumbo grips on all clubs except on 52, 56, 60 wedges which I use the zen lite extra small. I have found that my slice has become a small fade or straight shot

With the larger grips in wedges I has been able to control direction and distance better , I would recommend giving the a try , have to experiment with different sizes to fine which is comfortable

My preference would be the same as yours, to try them out on driver or woods first... that's actually exactly what I did! 😆 If you aren't hitting those clubs well, what do you have to loose?

There has been mention of a lot of people having success putting the JMX grips on their most used wedge (similar to what @jrsgolf just mentioned above), which has piqued my interest! I think that might be the next place I try the JMX grips.

First time poster, I’ve appreciated hearing others experiences thus far! I’m 42 now, about 1 index, and have started experiencing some wrist pain. Making a switch like this intrigues me, for sure, because I love the game and aren’t getting any younger. Anything that can keep me playing/practicing is worth a look. I just ordered a Str8 UltraLite to try on the driver, so we’ll see how that goes.

Did any of you on here make this switch because of hand or wrist pain? And have you seen these grips alleviate those issues at all?

  • 4 weeks later...

Just fitted my clubs with jumbo max grips.

Driver, 3w - JMX Ultralite (S)

5i-AW, 54, 60 - Zenlite (M)

I like how the ultralites feel on my long clubs but definitely like the rubberized feel on the Zenlites for the irons and wedges. Very comfy grips, and may actually prefer the Zenlites over the ultra lites. I’ll get a better gauge on them all this weekend.

To Jesse_Land. I switched to JumboMax at age 55, mostly because I believe that grips should fit your hands, but also because I have arthritis  in both hands. I am now 70 years old, and my game keeps getting better and better. Despite my golfing success, I have not been able to get anyone to try JumboMax grips. ( 900 years of golf tradition is hard to overcome. ) I use the original style grips in the +3/8 (XL) size.

Same as @VistaKing, I believe grips should be sized to suit your hands. My hands aren't huge, but I had been putting 2-3 additional layers of tape under Golfpride midsize Plus 4 (reduced taper) grips to make them more comfortable. I still have that on my wedges.

I'm 49 and suffer with mild golfer's elbow and hand cramp with skinny grips. The Jumbomax grips have been great so far in alleviating any pain and discomfort.

I've been trying various sizes of Jumbomax grips- Jumbo, XS, S and M in the stock tapered Ultralite and Zenlite, and more recently the STR8 Tour, Wrap and Ultralite in XS. I wish I could buy Small size STR8 grips to try, but the XS feel great so far. I have the XS STR8 grips on driver, 7W, 3H and 8 iron. I just fitted the STR8 wrap to my hybrid to try out so I make the right decision on which to buy for the full set. Right now I'm leaning towards the STR8 Tour XS grip for everything, but definitely for the irons. I'm striping my 3W (Medium), 7W (XS) and hybrid (XS) and the driver (XS) is close to as good as I've ever hit it.

I use Arccos and found out that you can tear apart the screw in sensors to dig out the embedded sensor that will fit in the butt end of the STR8 Tour and Wrap grips. I love that sleeker look, which is why those two are favorites right now. I really like the STR8 reduced taper feel. I tend to choke down an inch or two on the driver and fairway woods most of the time. I always have done and STR8 grips make that more comfortable.

I did not make the switch because of pain, but I can totally see the JMX grips helping with hand and wrist pain. My apparent grip pressure has reduced quite a bit and I can tell my hands and elbows are less fatigued after a round.
Let us know if you make the switch or test anything out and how it goes for your pain!

Yeah, will do! Thankfully I've seen a dip in the discomfort recently, but it's not gone. I ordered and have been testing an XS Ultralite on my driver, the STR8 tech version. I'm not sure I prefer that size or the non-taper style of that STR8 tech. But I do think I'm going to go ahead and do a full set. My wedges def need a re-grip, and I've kind of got a smorgasbord of grips on my set right now! So I need to do something. I think I'll move down to the standard jumbo and to the all black Tour Series, at least that's what I'm thinking. I hope I enjoy it, $175 is a lot to shell out to re-grip clubs!

Yes, I agree! If it helps with the pain and keeps you golfing, it will be worth it!

Someone else may be able to chime in here... but I think if you purchase a set of grips from JMX website (www.jumbomax.com) they will provide more of a trial warranty than if you purchase through other sites like Amazon. There are also discount codes for 10% off... CMRGOLF10 is an example.

Some of you may know from other corners of the forum that I had a rib injury in early May that kept me from doing any exercising for about 3.5 weeks. I was finally able to get out last week Thursday and yesterday for 9 holes each day and my ribs felt fine!

As far as the grips go, I wanted to say that I am really happy with them on my Dr, woods and hybrid. With my driver and the stock grips, I had a tendency to have a severe hook at times and I think the grip is a main contributor to that being extinguished. My Dr shots are now straight or slight fade.

With the woods (3W & 5W), I am still able to draw these clubs quite a bit, if desired, and my stock shot is straight to a medium draw. Other than one topped shot (not the fault of the grip 😆), I hit my woods great both rounds!

With the hybrid (PXG 22* 4hy), I feel like this is where the JMX grip has shined the most. I used to get the frequent strong hook with the stock PXG grip. On my last two 9 hole rounds I used the hybrid for approximately 10 shots and every single one was dead straight. I do believe the grip has helped immensely with keeping the face from turning over too quickly with such a small/light club.

I can't speak to distance because 1. I took 4 weeks off and 2. both rounds were at courses I'm not very familiar with.

Ooh, thanks for the code. That’s great! I think it’s gonna be Tour Series, standard jumbo.

One of the things that interested me on these grips was I would occasionally get a little golfer elbow pain. I am happy to say I haven’t had any pain since from golf. I do still occasionally after pull days in the gym. I think this shows that part of the pain is from gripping and that the bigger grips are helping to lighten my grip on the club. As far as its effect on my shots/misses I haven’t had a noticeable difference here. I have seemed to be a little longer lately, but not anything significant and could be from working on the swing some as well so I can’t confidently attribute this to the grips. I will also update in this post that my last air install method of using athletic tape on the shaft has worked well. I have put enough practice and rounds in to confidently say it’s working well and have had no movement.

Sorry to hear about the injury. I've just returned to playing again after muscular injury. Serratus Anterior strain, so from pec, around ribs (attached to 4 I think) round to the inside of the shoulder blade. Felt like I was being stabbed in the ribs or pec initially. Rotational injury, more common in baseball. Anyway, I had 6-7 weeks of no golf or training, other than a little light cycling, then played one round 10 days ago and three 9 hole rounds in the last week. Speed is down and I'm managing the injury as it's not 100% recovered, but playing isn't aggravating it fortunately!

Back to the grips- I found the same bigger impact on driver, woods and hybrid too. The fairway woods and hybrid are routinely straight with v little fade or draw, unless I intend to play it. Driver much better than with thinner stock grip. Wrist more stable throughout swing etc.
