Nate L
I'm at a point with my swing that I'm not looking to make any major changes but I am looking to add more structure to range sessions beyond aiming at a target and hoping to hit it. What routine have you implemented that really helped you dial in your game without trying to change your mechanics? NM01
A swing needs to be maintained even for those not looking to make any more changes. so honing in the current mechanics through block practice will help maintain the swing. To improve at golf with the current swing one needs to develop skills. Hitting golf shots and working on them at the range. Determine a skill you want to improve on and work on it, practice it. It could be as simple as proper alignment every time. Pick different targets setup for the shot then check alignment, adjust if it’s off. Use alignment rods to help teach it. This is probably a good one if at the range you are swinging and just hoping you hit the target rather than expecting to jbern and Steve F
Shapotomous
I picture a shot on a hole no matter which club i am hitting on the range. Not just a distance but a shot shape and trajectory. I especially picture shots that have given me trouble so that i hopefully get over the hump on the course with them. russtopherb
I play golf on the range. After I work on what I set out to work on that day (I have a goal every time I get a bucket) I play a sim round, swapping up clubs based on where my previous shot landed and what I'd need to do on my next shot on that hole. No do overs. If I hit a bad shot, I need to hit a recovery shot. Not mindlessly blasting balls one after the other with the same club did wonders for my on-course shots. jbern, Steve F, Nate L and 2 others 5 Quote In my Big Max hybrid bag: ST-X 10.5* Kai'li Blue R Flex ST-Z 15* Kai'li Blue R Flex ST-Z 4h Linq Blue R Flex Launcher 5h D200 6i-GW CBX 54* & 58* Huntington Beach #10 Tour S

KC Golf
I think I went from hitting until I was happy to more focused range sessions. This meant hitting more wedges and focus on partial shots and shot shapes with longer irons and woods. Focus more on partial pitches and putting as opposed to just driver swings was a major change that worked for me. jbern
I used to just go to the range and hit shots aimlessly. The two items that helped me the most with improving were using alignment aids and taking videos of my swings (I also talk to the camera about the shot results and what I felt during the swing). Michael.Sandoval33
I think one thing that has helped me improve on the course, even though my swing doesn't carry as much distance as others by any means, has been treating the range like the course. I tee off, then based on the approximate distance, I choose my clubs from there and again, play from approximate distance, and once I feel like I would be on the greens. I repeat. It has helped me slow down my range sessions a lot and trigger home some course management techniques. I know I would be shooting a lot higher at this point in my golf tenure if I didn't have a really good dial on what I can/cannot realistically achieve. I started gravitating away from the full “driving range” and towards the short game area. This can be really tricky if you don’t have a course in your area with a decent chipping/pitching/sand practice area. Luckily I have one that’s accessible when the weather is good and another that’s much better but much farther away. spending an hour or two just hitting chips and pitches from different distances and a solid amount of focused time hitting bunker shots is worth the time spent away from full swing practice. The best part is it’s also free, and usually involves hitting off grass as opposed to mats. The few times I’ve made it out so far this year, these are the areas I’m feeling the rust because it’s so hard to practice outside of a covered/mats only driving range in the winter. Hacker60521
I’m pretty lucky since I have a sim at home and at the course we have a “driving range” along with short game / sand trap area and putting. So when I’m at the range I focus more on things I can’t do on a sim. So much more time on chip, pitch, short wedge, sand shots to work around the green Michael.Sandoval33 and Nate L 2 Quote Driver: Stealth2 3W: Stealth2 4H: Stealth 2 Irons 4I-9I: T200 Wedges P, 48: T200 Wedges 54, 58: Vokey SM9 Putter: O Works #1 Black

The biggest change I made is based on a Phil Mickelson warm up where you change clubs every shot and treat every shot like a shot on the course. I.e. I’m playing my second into the green on hole 4, I’m 130 yards out and I’m hitting a half 9 iron to keep the ball low so it doesn’t spin back off the green. That way you have your practice swing, line up like and actual shot and play it the way you would on the course.
