Keep in mind that I'm no fitter, I'm just a tinkerer that's kind of found some stuff that works for me with a lot of trial an error. Your best bet is probably to go spend some money on a fitting (don't have to buy) and see what kind of shaft you end up fitted into and go from there. You don't necessarily have to go premium to get what you're looking for -- shown very clearly by the folks in this thread. All that said, without knowing swing speed what kind of ball flight you want/have, here's what I would do. Take it with a grain of salt. First, I'd look for something in a lighter weight category in the general flex ballpark of my swing speed. Then I'd figure out what I'm looking for from the launch - High or mid. More active tip generally = higher launch. Then I'd start looking for shafts with softer tips or mid sections and a smoother profile that doesn't require an aggressive transition to load. Smooth is fast and I don't know any of my older buddies save one who has a transition that requires a really stout shaft. I'd also really look into the ball you're playing. Lower swing speed needs more spin to stay up in the air and the ball can really help you out. azstu324 and Josh Parker 2 Quote Driver 0311 Gen 5 -- Ventus Velocore+ Blue Hybrids 0317X 2&3 -- Tensei CK Orange Irons ZX7 4/AW -- C-Taper Lite 110 Wedges RTX Zipcore 56/10º@55º 58º/10 C-Taper Lite 110 Putter Link.1 -- Accra Ball Zstar Diamond

Syks7
Okay, so here's the GCQuad data from the first swings with the Ventus Velocore+. Figured out how to export all the info and it was a big overcorrection from the data with the CK Orange. There is such a thing as too much data and while I would love to have a GCquad, I'm starting to realize that a Bushnell Launch Pro with ball only data is probably more than "good" enough. Its also nearly an entire compact car less in price. I'd be drowning in data if I owned a quad. There's not a ton of difference between the CK Orange and Ventus right now for me. They're so close numbers wise that they're nearly identical. That said.... This is what my driver face looks like from the CK Orange And this is what kind of impact I was having initially with the Ventus Velocore+ Pretty sub-standard and it still produced pretty similar numbers to the CK Orange. I think a lot of this impact chart has to do with weight and setup. I just plugged the Velo+ into the head and the swing weight and overall weight were just a bit too heavy. Here's the breakdown and how I made some adjustment to bring it back to where I thought it would work best. I got a chance to test it out today outdoors at the range.... in a decidedly lower tech way. This is the initial impacts as I tweaked my address position to deliver the ball to the right part of the face. Liberal use of the face as I adjusted. Here's after I found where I needed to setup. Getting much better... All of the swings that made this impact pattern are in this video. Takeaways from today. While it still feels stouter than the OG Ventus blue that initial feeling I had is gone. It's much closer to the OG blue but also more stable feeling. I think part of my initial take had to do with the swing weight and extra weight in the club. It was more than I was used to and it made everything feel sluggish. Adjusting the weight down has helped me square the club face. The only big rightward shot today was pretty mellow and would not have gotten me into trouble. Its very stable and forgiving. I wouldn't have been ecstatic about the thin shots I had when I was chasing the center of the face, but every one of them would have been playable. They didn't get wildly off line -- Just low bullet fades with shorter distance. Carry was short but I think they would have all run into the carry dispersion pattern for the better shots. Next up. Men's club tournament on Thursday. Excited to see how it plays on a course that I know exactly where I hit it to with the CK Orange. Sidebar... I put the CK Orange in my 3 wood today (45" soft stepped 3 wood). Its absurd . Definitely not the easiest thing to hit, but when I choke down to the bottom of the grip (normal 3 wood length) it shifts from inconsistent to pretty easy to hit. It must be a psychological thing from choking down because I don't ever remember a normal length 3 wood ever feeling 'easy' to hit. Its fun enough that it's going to be in the bag on Thursday. skraeling
Well first go out with the shaft and still wasn’t feeling well. My game reflected that. Kind of lost some of my mechanics for longer clubs, also was quite down on strength too. pretty low even by my standards. Anyhow it started off ok (shotgun league start). Picked 18 the hardest hole. Decent hit but spun it a ton and so it turned over pretty hard. This was a theme for the day. So we moved on and shockingly my condition didn’t improve neither did my golf game. At this point I’m pretty gassed. Probably shouldn’t have played today but excitement got the betters of me. Last driveable hole and… I clipped a single branch on the farthest right tree… kicked it into the lake. Would have been the best one of the day and had a chance to make the green (roll was wild if you hit fairway). That last shot showed me the promise of the shaft. So this wasn’t a really fair test I suppose… but if it was manageable when I was at my worst? I can’t wait to have a round with it where I don’t feel like death warmed over. Syks7
First actual round with the Velo+ yesterday. Slight dip in FIR but that's more because I'm not used to the dispersion yet. With the Orange I have a very reliable shape and miss and I aim for it. The Velo+ seems to be straighter and some of my fairway misses were because I aimed for more fade on a couple doglegs and just blew through the fairway when it went straight. All that said, I only found myself in jail a couple times, the rest produced open looks a the green. If my approach play had been even remotely decent yesterday I would have shot well better than the 85 I posted. I'm not sold on it yet as exactly for me, but there's a lot of potential. Observations for the day Like I'd been seeing on the simulator and range I'm seeing a very consistent ball flight I had three big misses for the day. All three were my trying to swing too hard (for no reason). Two cold tops and one big wipey slice. The rest of the day it produced a straight ball or baby fade (no left misses) even when I was not finding the center of the face. Lower ball flight than with the CK Orange which is consistent with what I saw on the quad It launches low, climbs to peak, and settles nicely with decent but not uncontrolled rollout. With the Orange I sometimes don't get much rollout. It comes in like a meteor and depending on conditions my only produce a couple yards. You don't have to swing the Velo+ hard. The best results came from smoother swings That said it didn't get unstable from more aggressive transitions The CK Orange can get a little loose if I try to step on it, this does not seem to be the case with the Velo+ Distance was very consistent Excluding a couple very bad swings: (All distances are total not carry) Lowest distance was 226 off a spinny low heel strike Longest distance was 275 though I think it could have been substantially more had it found fairway rather than rough. My guess is that the carry was about 260. Average distance for the day was 249 which is statistically the same as the 250 (over the last 8 rounds) I've been seeing with the CK Orange I'm still not finding the center of the face as much as I'd like. It's not been catastrophic, but its a little tantalizing to see the ball come off the face has hard as it does when I do find the center. It feels like my smash factor is way down, yet I'm seeing relatively similar distances. The best way I can describe it is that I know exactly what a low heel strike feels like and does. (It's one of my very often not going to complain about that misses) It's spinny, lower, starts left, moves right, and stays safe. It's not long by any measure usually ending up somewhere between 200 & 230. With the Velo+ yesterday this was the dominant shot. It didn't have as much movement and was more penetrating. I'm guessing that this has to be the added tip stability of the Velo+. Not sure I'm going to have time to play 18 next week so I think another sim session is in order. I also want to tinker with the head weight a bit and that's better done where I can make a lot of swings with feedback. I'm also going to do some gripping down to see if I like it better at 45. Sidebar: The Orange in the 3W was a massive success. (It saved me after two cold tops off the tee) I'm either going to adapt to the Velo+ or I'll be looking for another orange to put in the 3W. Syks7
Okay, so I didn't go to the simulator as planned. I had two morning meetings cancel so you know what that means.... Everything was booked except Angeles National which is pricey. Normally I'd say no, but the combination of a very empty looking tee sheet for the morning and it almost being Fathers day lead me to decide to treat myself. 3 Hours 12/14 fairways and another 85 (though this one is an 10.8 vs. the 14 yesterday.) No adjustments yet, just played it same as yesterday. Not sure if I need to after today. I felt very comfortable with it. What I learned about dispersion and how to swing the thing yesterday made a huge difference today. It was exceptionally accurate. 12/14 First time I've ever played this course and not 'rinsed' a tee shot in the ESA that lines every fairway. The two misses were me trying to carry a ridge to the right of a fairway bunker at 240 (wishful) and coming up just shy of the ridge. It was costly because I 'rinsed' the stupidly pulled 3 wood I tried to hit off the uphill above my feet lie. The other was a slight tug into a bunker. I played it with a mix of gripping down and full length. It was accurate gripping down and it helped me stay shy of some mid fairway bunkers that I didn't feel like I could carry into the wind. It's was still marginally shorter than the CK Orange, but some of that was gripping down. Felt like I found the center of the face a lot more today. It feels a tad stiffer than I expected (and still a tad stiffer than the OG blue) but I'm not sure if that has to do with the stiffer tip section or the overall flex throughout. It feels way less stiff than when I first swung it. The swingweight was off of what I'm used to and I'm weirdly sensitive to SW. So far though, compared to the Orange it feels more solid even though the Orange can feel a bit boardy if you don't put a good swing on it. This is entirely my feel but with the Orange it feels like it reaches its full loading point toward the bottom of the swing as I'm trying to dump as much hand speed into the club as I can. It can get a bit loose if that transition or the change in direction is too abrubt. The Velocore+ feels like it fully loads earlier but not quite as much as the Orange. Sort of like how a dry 2x feels stout until you apply enough load for it to bend (Orange) vs. a wet HD 2x that's still stout and loads a little bit right away. (Ventus Velo+). So far I haven't felt the Velo+ get loose and I've put all number of aggressive swings on it. I either haven't swung the velo+ hard enough to get it loose or its just super stable. musicalmedicine
Hi Spies! I've had the Ventus Blue Velocore+ in hand for a little over a week now and wanted to share some initial launch monitor data from my first range session with it. As my fellow Arizonans know, its that time of the year where even going to the grocery store can make you feel like Timothee Chalamet in Dune, so I’ve been hitting the range around 6am the past few weeks. (100% real picture of me arriving at the range, June 2024) (Range set up, June 2024) At Address...the "it" factor The data I’m sharing in this post is from 8-Jun-2024, which was the first time I had the Ventus Blue Velocore+ on the driver while hitting balls. During this range session I started off with my Ping 2.0 Black shaft and then moved to the Ventus Blue Velocore+. I’ve already posted my initial impressions in my main post, but I would like to touch a little bit more on look and appeal at address in this post as well since it is the first time I had it out of the box and ready to use. Appeal to the eye is subjective, and I know there has been a lot of discussion about the change in finish from a gloss deep blue to the lighter matte blue on the Ventus. I liked the blue color when I unboxed the shaft, but on the driver, it is even better looking to my eye. When I did my fitting for this shaft I did get to hit the original Ventus Blue and I much prefer the lighter matte blue finish. It gives just enough pop to the look of the club, without being distracting. (Ping Tour 2.0 Black, June 2024) (Fujikura Ventus Blue Velocore+, June 2024) Initial Data Before tracking these data points, I did a little bit of warming up with some irons and hybrid to make sure that I was loosened up before getting this data. In my intro post I mentioned dispersion being a focus for me during this testing, and seeing these results following my first outing with the Ventus was almost jaw dropping. With only ~20 readings for each shaft, this is a small dataset. That said, the graph clearly shows tangible tightening of both lateral and forward dispersion far beyond the extent I was expecting or even hoping for. I’ve kept the Ventus on my driver since this session and have a full round with it and a few more range sessions with it logged. I’ve been working on increasing my swing speed lately and did capture my first 300+ yard carry with the Ventus on my driver on my second outing with it, which was a really exciting. I plan on doing some additional A/B testing on the range to determine if the variation in dispersion between shafts during this session was a fluke. (A/B Ping Tour 2.0 Black v. Fujikura Ventus Blue Velocore+, 8-June-2024) (First 300+ yard carry (with a hook) captured on launch monitor, 9-June-2024) On Course I've included a couple photos my friend was nice enough to take during our round last Friday, hopefully we'll see him around the MGS forum sometime soon. As I mentioned earlier, I really like the matte blue finish on this shaft. Although the blue does pop and is a lighter color, you don't get any glare from it in the bright AZ sun, the first picture below shows this pretty well. In my main post in the initial impression section I mentioned the feeling of this shaft being "impossibly robust" and feeling as if the tip of it moves like the beam from a laser. I didn't get the feeling that that changed once I put the head on and started hitting balls, but the second picture below does show that the shaft deflects quite a bit more than I was expecting. Had two bad hooks that killed my average. Distance was back up but sadly only 3/7 on fairways. It’s ok progress was made. Playing again soon might be rough with temps hovering at 99 for several days before heat indexes are even figured in vs last week when I was sick haha. I also did a grip change. Mine came with the Lamkin Sonar+ Wrap, which is a good grip, but I went straight to PGATSS after my first range session to swap it out for a Golf Pride CP2 Wrap TylorJudd, Syks7, Jean D and 1 other 4 Quote G430 MAX 10.5º Fujikura Ventus Blue Velocore+ 6 X G430 MAX 5 Wood Tour 2.0 Chrome 65 S shaft G430 MAX 4 Hybrid Tour 2.0 Chrome 85 S Shaft G430 5i - PW Tour-V S shafts G430 45º & 50º Tour-V S shafts Glide Pro Forged 56º S-10° Dynamic Gold S300 shaft S159 60° H-8° Dynamic Gold S300 shaft DF3 shaft Fujikura Ventus Blue Velocore+ review
Syks7
50% FIR today and 5/7 of the misses still had a look at the green. Hasn't shown me the distance upside yet(max) but it is proving to be very accurate. Preeway
Been busier than expected lately so I’m further behind on my posts than I like. I’ve had a couple range sessions but my Rapsodo was dead when I took it out to use. Glad my son is making the most of having it but sheesh. My first big takeaway from the range was the shaft feels a tad stiffer in the tip section. Both Ventus shafts are the same weight and stiffness but the VeloCore+ does have a slightly different feel. I will share some data and thoughts from my first couple of rounds in my next post. And should have some aim data this week. I really want to see how the spin varies between the two shafts. I think mostly due to me not dealing with people day in and day out. I occasionally forget how to human. Spending 8hrs a day in a genetics lab... yeah. It warps ya. I also work with some questionable people... I digress. I love golf. Like absolutely love it. Ive played for a long time but never seriously. The usual once a year maybe a couple times a year typical player. Then I got involved with a golf league and truely began to love the sport. Bonus I get to play with my dad once a week. I consider myself very fortunate. Me kicking his ass in Hawaii. I brew I dont know... semi professionally? I do this at home, but occasionally help a friend who does do is professionally. so... semi pro it is haha. I mean what else is a damn microbiologist supposed to do for a hobby right? I also have a cat that prevents practice... a lot, so improving can be difficult some days. I love filming storms when im not dodging them on the golf course. Ah the missouri in the midwest... gateway to repeated hail,flooding,tornadoes... oh my. Overall im a complete dork with a warped sense of humor. Two goals this year were to shoot at or below par (so far not so good), and hit a 300yd drive (which ive gotten close and missed that by 13yds). Area Of Testing Focus: Dispersion.... Im hoping this can really tighten up my left miss. If my tempo isnt great that day my current shaft really punishes me and starts hooking like im in the red light district. Barf. Distance isnt bad for me. What I’m looking for: Something to keep me more in the middle (arnt we all?). Hey... can ANYONE TELL WHERE MY MISS IS?!?!.... blah! Is my shaft too whippy? maybe. Can I make it work?... well sure. I do think im ready to try something new though.. Ive been doing speed training and I can sometimes if im not in perfect form over match my current shaft. How it started vs how its going: Overall Im really looking forward to giving this shaft a try. I do much prefer lighter weight shafts and my testing choice will hopefully represent a close analog in metrics vs my current one (as much as possible). Can I get stability and BOMBS?... we shall see. Ill be running arccos as per usual so the metrics will make themselves readily apparent. I look forward to providing you with a joe average impact of this shaft on my game. Cheers. UNBOXING: I got a shaft in a box yo. Well now that I only feel slightly less like death warmed over. Finally get unboxing up. It showed up and this thing had clearly seen some s*** on the way to my house: But it was in good shape so the box did its job. This forum I swear... no matter what I want to do it wants to show this upside down... SO BE IT! Its just fractionally shorter than mine which is what I was expecting so kudos to Fujikura for absolutely crushing the prep on this thing. Well.... apparently this is a TOUR adapter that some of my fellow reviewers did some epic Dick Tracy s*** on to figure out and its mostly the same. Besides... im so crap will .5* make a difference? Somehow I had been playing with what I thought was a 9* setting... HAHAHAHA no. I had my og setup set to 8.5*... whatever itll be fine. Initial impressions are.... well im still trying to figure this out. Overall I cant wait to get out again with this when im not clearly sick and back to 100%. Preeway
I tried hitting balls in the garage this morning with the Rapsodo but I just don’t swing the same as I do outside. The numbers I was getting weren’t reliable so I’m going to try to get to the outdoor range early tomorrow morning with the Rapsodo and see what I get. Should be able to rent out some time in a simulator on Saturday to get some more data as well. musicalmedicine, GolfSpy_BOS, William P and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: Aerojet LS, Ventus Velocore+ Blue Shaft - 6S 4 Wood: Rogue ST Max 16.5, Tensei White Shaft - 7S Utility Iron: Fli Hi 3-iron, HAZARDOUS Smoke Black Shaft - S Irons: JPX 921 Tour 4-P, Project X Shafts - Stiff 125g Wedges: 52º, 56º, 60º Putter: Ai-One 7 T CH, 34" Preferred Ball: Z-Star Diamond Pushcart: Nitron Rangefinder: Pro X3+
