Monte Scheinblum also demonstrates short pitches by tossing a ball underhand - great visual imo! 

The "4 Cues" from the article can also be useful to help put your attention and focus on the process of executing these touch shots .. vs stressing over the result...

I have no data to support this but being a "sniper/surgeon/marksman from ~30 yards" seems to be the most important piece of scoring.  It mostly suggests one is scrambling in not having reached the green in regulation.  Getting that short shot/chip inside the magic 8 foot distance, where the odds of making the first putt is more likely, is important... or at least it is for my game and scoring.
