Very nice that they were able to get it to you quicker than expected! How do you like the blue color? That is my #1 color choice at the moment! Was the alignment aid recommended to you by someone or was it personal preference?

Below is my top configuration so far, with the black Press II 1.5* textured grip. I would like the larger size grip of the Press II 3*, but I have a natural forward press so I think I'll end up in the 1.5.

I absolutely love the blue!  Luckily I have a PGA Super Store close to me and they had some of the colors there in the standard setup so I could see how I liked it in person.

In terms of the alignment line, that was never discussed in my online fitting.  I went through all of them and made the choice on which one I felt the best with.  I've started to notice that having some sort of T line whether it's on the ball or putter has really helped me.  I didn't want the T like to go across the entire face though as it felt too much for me.

I love your setup and I'm curious to hear what you guys think about the different shafts!  I'm not sure if I would have done a different shaft if the wife would've said you can go as crazy as you want, but I definitely would have liked to look at all of them closer.

Question for the testers here, as I have both a S62 and an Epix that I use while out on the course.

Not so much an issue with the watch themselves, but when you download the information to the Garmin Connect feature where the scorecard data and hole and shots are recorded.

I run into this scenario and wondered if any other have seen it too?

Par 3 hole at my regular course, yardage by both the range finder and watch typically shows somewhere between 150 - 160 yards depending upon pin location.

When I complete the round, save the data but then sync the watch and data using the Garmin app on the computer, it typically shows yardages as less than originally measured?

Usually 138 - 146 yards on "scorecard data" versus what was originally seen while out on the course.

Will also have incorrect yardage data on some other holes too, both par 4's and par 5's afterwards.

Wondering if it may be a watch issue or something with the GPS information itself.

I just went back and looked at my scorecards from my rounds and all of the yardages look pretty spot on.  Most of my rounds were at a course where I'm a member, so I can attest to what the yardages should be.  I'm not seeing a 10 yard difference like you're seeing on yours.  It may be worth reaching out Garmin to see if there's a fix they can do.  Maybe first you can just trying a quick reset and see if that fixes it.

Regarding the glove interfering with the buttons, I'm curious if you tried to disable the buttons during a golf activity and use only the touch screen. With the watch having a touch screen and buttons, it gives you the option to change these settings for each different activity.

I did not try to disable the buttons during play.  I'll try looking at that feature more in-depth as I'm curious if it'll lose any functionality/convenience with the button disabled.  I haven't been able to make it to the course yet this year with the weather, but I'll see if I can't try it from my house to hit the nearest course.

  4. As my golf season is starting to come to a close for the year, I'm still continuing to take the Approach S70 out on the course with me.  In one of my rounds, I had a buddy that used to work in the golf retail space wear it to give his review as he's very familiar with the market space.  I gave him a quick tutorial on how to work it and then left all of my opinions to myself to make sure it was unbiased.

He was very impressed with the clarity of the screen.  He wanted more out of the graphics though.  He wanted to be able to see all of the trees and other obstacles on the course that some of the apps that he was using from his phone.  He said his price point for the watch was like $200-$300.  I would like to note that he didn't have any issues with the watch trying to shut off by hitting the glove.  It did hit his watch, but nothing was impacted.

From my side, it still seems that the price point continues to be the biggest barrier for the S70.  Like I mentioned, I will definitely continue to use it much like a Bushnell Wingman wrapped around my Bluetooth speaker.

That is a subjective option.   They were in the test last year and weren’t evaluated to be the best.    If you feel they are the best then you should go test them for yourself and evaluate how they perform for you.

I'm not saying that Vokeys are the best wedges, I'm saying that they are the standard that everyone uses to compare or as a starting ground.  Much like the Prov1 golf ball.  Is the ProV1 the best golf ball?  It may or may not be and I completely agree that everyone needs to test to find what works for them the best.  When a company launches a new golf ball, they use the ProV1 as a comparison for the numbers.  Take one of the latest golf ball releases, PXG.  When they released their golf ball, they used numbers from ProV1 to say we spin more/less and have higher/lower ball speeds.  If something were to happen and ProV1 wouldn't have released a new model since the last golf ball test, would that data have been meaningful as a comparison?  Just like is this wedge test the most meaningful as possible leaving out the industry leader in wedges regardless of when it was released.

The reason I wanted to create this tread was to have these discussions because while you can go pull the 2022 results and flip back and forth to compare, you may not have all the same parameters as MGS naturally refines its process year over year.  One thing that I love with the MGS community is all of our backgrounds and discussions.  If we can make the data more meaningful to the end consumer then I believe it's our job to have those discussions.  As an example, I believe it was a few years back that MGS wanted to start adding in the previous year's "best driver" in the next year's test.  For one to show, do you gain the extra "30 yards with a new driver" and two as a leveling playing field.

The question about what is or isn’t included is always asked.  They test what was released the current year or hasn’t been tested in the past. SM9 were released and tested last year.

I definitely get that things not being included are always a topic of every test, and that the SM9's were released March 11, 2022, but not having a Vokey in a wedge test is like leave ProV1 out of a ball test.  Vokey is the standard in wedges the same as the ProV1 is the standard in golf balls.

I have one of the Galaxy Watch 5 Golf Editions, that's about half the cost (less if you have a trade-in). It comes with a subscription to Golf Buddy Smart Caddie and Golf GPS. Plus it has all of the good health stuff the Galaxy watches have. I don't need super fancy stuff on my watch, and so far it's been more than enough for my needs.

I agree that the $700 price tag isn't worth it. At the price of the S62 or just slightly above would be fine. Just not $700.

Thank you for posting that!  I was actually just about ready to retrack my statement saying that there isn't a version out there and of course an ad comes up for the Galaxy Watch Golf Edition 🤣  It's currently on sale for $420 without any trade-ins.

Hi @goaliewales14. I really appreciate you're review. I've never worn a smart watch before and have only worn more traditional watches. I know the watch to glove issue was a major factor for you. Did you have similar issues with your galaxy watch? Could you provide a comparison picture for how the galaxy was with you glove vs the S70? And could you provide if there was a size difference. The one issue with our reviews was that we all went with the 47mm. If the galaxy is smaller, maybe that would help people determine if they should go with the larger 47 or not.

My Galaxy watch is 46mm and was one of the reasons I went with the 47mm S70.  The other reasons are because I wanted the larger screen to be able to manipulate the course overlay for the GPS.  If I would have gone down to the 42mm my finger would have covered the majority of the screen making manipulation very hard.  I've never worn the Galaxy watch on the golf course as there aren't any GPS apps to my knowledge that work to display on a Galaxy watch like the S70.

While the glove interference did not make a positive impact on my review, I still would have drawn the same conclusion.  I don't believe the Garmin Approach S70 is worth the $700 price tag.  For me a smart watch should eliminate needing to look at your phone.  The S70 doesn't fulfill that need on the golf course, or off the course.  To get accurate club data a person would have to have their phone out, or purchase the full set of sensors for an additional $300.  The same could be done with Arccos for $200 or free with purchase of new golf clubs.  If you would want another GPS watch, you would be able to do Shot Scope for $300.
