Goal for todays round: No doubles and under 80. We'll see how this pans out.... (to be continued)
Well....mission failed! The greens were fast and pins were put in ridiculous places (I think they're saving the better pin locations for a girls tournament Monday). I 4 putted a par 3 green and 3 putted 2 other greens. Additionally, I hit 2 OB balls on 2 separate holes (2nd shot) both bouncing off a cart path and bounding just on the other side of the OB stakes. So, my double free round turned out to have 4 doubles and I shot an 83. I actually felt like I was hitting the ball better today, but the scores don't reflect that.
So much for predicting a better round in advance

Carl, this is too funny!
Check out the post I just left right above yours. We were probably typing and posting them at the same exact time!
Yeah, I can't seem to keep those doubles off my card. I've shot in the upper 70s with 3 or 4 doubles before. It's crazy! Typically, I'll get at least one double, sometimes 2 a round. Don't know if I just lose focus or it's my own way of maintaining a comfort zone I do make for a good match play player though because my handicap is based on those doubles happening!

Has anyone tried Dunning Golf apparel? Haven’t heard of them before yesterday and they are suddenly everywhere I look - catalog in mail, Instagram feed etc.
In the market for some golf pants for fall and thought I’d ask around before I ordered a pair.
any experience?
I have several pair of the players shorts. Great fit, good feel, and nice finishing on them. I haven't tried the pants, but if they're anything like the shorts, they'll be a quality product.

Well, I guess it’s my turn in the popcorn popper. I went to galaxygolf.com, and bought 4 doz. “Tour” balls for $112 delivered to my door. They arrived in two days!
let me begin with What a great ball!!!!! I’m kind of a PV1 snob, play almost every weekday, and I really couldn’t tell any difference. It’s long, and spins well. It’s definately a no brainer, just buy some. I got the tour, and not the X.
And, another convert!

Despite a double on #2, I played decent through 11 at 3 over....and then the wheels fell off. Started by inadvertently grabbing the wrong iron for my tee shot on the par 3 and spiraled through the 17th hole without a par. Did par 18 to limp in with an 83. Greens were super fast and the greenskeeper was diabolical with his pin placements, giving us slippery putts all day long. Somehow, I managed to not 3 putt any green...so I got that going for me. It was a beautiful day to play....cool at tee off then about 70ish by the time we finished.

Played okay, but had 2 bad holes that cost me....hit my drive OB on #2 for a double and then on 18, I hit a 9 iron out of the thick rough that went the distance, but hooked to the left of the green and settled on hard pan with an exposed root about 4 inches behind the ball. Had to bring the club steep up and steep down....results were not good and sent the ball sailing over the green and ended up with another double to card an 82 for the day. Bad news is that the 18th hole was pressed and ended up loosing the bet and the press (partner game and my partner failed to make his birdie putt to tie the opponents birdie)

Is there ANY putter, wedge, or driver that you haven't had at least once? LOL

... It has been a loooong time since I wore anything that wasn't moisture wicking polyester. But I only call mine performance when I shoot under par.
Oh sure...hit me with that "under par" requirement! 73 is my career best but now that I'm 71, I'm thinking about shooting my age I guess I could mention aces, but.... (grin)

... Slacks!?! Well aren't we fancy down in the south y'all. And are they more expensive than non performance pants?
Depends! But, they are a lot cooler than khakis or chinos I think "performance" is the buzzword for polyester blends.

Was in Plano (Dallas) for my birthday and went to the PGA Superstore. Picked up a couple of pair of performance slacks for fall/winter golf. Wife gave me 2 dozen Snell MTBX balls for the b'day. And I had just picked up 2 dozen Maxfli Tour balls. With the 3 or 4 dozen Maxfli, Snell, and ProV1 balls at the house, I'm set for a few rounds

The Continent Cup would consist of Asia vs The United States.
48 countries in Asia would produce some great talent. Sound like a new frontier for the PGATOUR.
I don't see it. That's basically what the President's cup is now, except you'd exclude a lot of talent internationally.

The only way this would be remotely interesting would be if it was a mixed field (PGA and LPGA)
I think this is the next logical event. I think it would be interesting to see 6 ladies and 6 men from America compete against the same combo from the Internationals.

Feast or famine. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Moments of brilliance and periods of befuddlement. Tale of 2 nines. Yada, yada, yada. And on it goes to explain my game. 4 doubles for the day leads to a 82. 2 of those doubles on the backside shooting 39.

Shot an 80 today, but played the next tees forward, so still shot +3 over handicap. Rough is punishing right now. The ball just sinks down in the Bermuda and is difficult to get out and even more difficult to control any distances. Missed some easy putts today.

I have to compare 4 hybrid and 7 wood from the rough but initial results are very promising. What are MGS forum members experience with 7 wood shots out of rough, especially compared to a hybrid?
Out of our Bermuda/zoysia mix rough, my HeavenWood will "sometimes" work. Much more success with the 5H when it's sitting down, which it is 90% of the time.

Bad shot of the day ... darn near missed my tee shot and dribbled it into the lateral hazard to the left about 50 yards (par 3). Took a drop from 110 yards, hit a beautiful PW that landed and stuck pin high about 2 feet to the left. Missed the damn putt!

Really, really, really stunk it up today. MGA day and the format was individual stroke play. Ball striking was meh, putting was abysmal....end result was a +7 net with a gross of 86...and gross seems fitting for the performance I had today.

Maybe it's a "country club" thing... I rarely find anything but ProV's and ChromeSofts at my course.
Same here, although ChromeSofts seem to be more prominent here than ProV because it's what the pro pushes...but there are a lot of Titleist players here, as well. The only MaxFli balls that I find are my own

Not a particularly stellar day today! Shot an 83. Ball just didn't want to find the hole despite putting a good roll on it...burned the edges all day long. Close but no cigar, as they say. Game was 2 best net (3somes)....my playing partners both shot in the 90s, which was okay for one of them. For the 11 hdcp player...not so much. Needless to say, we donated today.

How'd you play?

Our MGA event this week was a modified Chapman. It was supposed to be pick your partner in preparation for our member-member event next week (which will have a Chapman as one of the formats) but my partner couldn't play this week, so I ended up with someone that I didn't pick. As soon as I saw who it was, I rolled my eyes. Anywho.....it was a net game with the team handicap being 60% of the low handicap player's handicap and 40% of the higher handicap player's handicap, giving us 10 strokes. We shot an 81 for a net 71 and one stroke off the money for our flight (2nd flight of 2 flights). I hit some of my best drives only to be squandered away by my partner...example: #9, I hit a really nice drive down the center of the fairway, leaving him 135 yards to the pin. I had to hit his drive which was 185 yards out. I hit right at the pin, but it came up about 5 yards short of the green. His shot from my drive might have gone 100 yards and squirted off to the right, so we pick my shot which he chips 10 feet past the hole, leaving me a downhill snake. I almost made it, but left it on the lip. It was like this all day. On the positive front, my efforts on the driving range of swinging hard paid off as I saw many of my drives being longer than I have been hitting lately.
